  1. this is somewhat true about the way the store their rods. you grab one off the shelf and 10 fall down on top of you with it. I would advise anyone that buys one just to give it a quick inspection. check the tips, guides, and reel seat. my brother in law was buying a rod and reel one time to pair up from walmart. it was an abu cardinal 104 and a rhino rod, standing in line with him to pay for it i realized the tip on the rod was all bent out of shape and went and found a good one on the rack.
  2. i dont need anymore information. Winter fishing in small ponds can be frustrating. Plastics never worked that good for me in small cold ponds. I would be throwing a husky jerk or another hard jerk bait and working it real slow. or a shallow diving crank rolled slowly. try fishing the deepest part of the pond
  3. what have you got to lose by trying? especially if your main spots arent producing results...
  4. LOL, atleast the Pats make Super Bowls, and the playoffs regularly. Youre obviously not a true fan of the pats or the game of football. anyways, ahmad bradshaw possibly cost me $450 when he scored that TD at the end. If he was able to stop and the giants ran the clock down and kicked a field goal it wouldve been 18-17, and i had an 8 for the giants and a 7 for the pats on the block sheet i was on. being a redskins fan i hate the giants anyways, now i really hate them, i couldve lived with them winning for $450 though...
  5. awesome, i cant wait to get down there this year...
  6. While this might be factual, im not sure it is or not, but while it may be, it means nothing to me and i dont really think it does much to answer the question, because said question is a matter of preference... both of my baitcasters are LH, im right handed. i feel much more comfortable holding the rod in my right hand no matter what type of reel. its not that hard to turn the handle with your left hand, reeling is easy. but id much rather hold the rod in my right hand so i know it isnt going anywhere
  7. those peacocks are pretty fish. i too wish i could catch them up here
  8. lol geez, if yall dont like how Zona acts, you must really hate how Iaconelli acts. I mean god forbid someone have a good time while fishing or filming their show. You could always watch Old Man and Bobber-Ann instead...
  9. you dont need a boat. a ton of people bass fish from shore on large lakes. i caught my PB fishing from a dock at Smith Mountain Lake. Granted, you've caught bigger fish than me from your ponds you fish, but you dont need a boat to fish public waters. Sure, things are a little tougher from shore, but thats part of the fun, figuring out the mystery. its an added challenge to what the norm is for you. Dont get me wrong, i'm not coming down on you, just offering my perspective. I love pond fishing, I would love to fish some of the ponds you do. but i also enjoy trying to figure out what the bass around that dock at SML want as well, and there are plenty swimming around the shoreline during the summer, sometimes i just sit there and watch them crush bluegill. sometimes they eat the bluegill, other times they just headbutt the bluegill to keep it away from their bed during the spawn. you can learn/observe a lot more and present yourself with some new challenges is all im trying to say...
  10. id go with small for crappie
  11. theres some great fishing to be had in NC, unfortunately i dont know anything about the Charlotte area...wish i could help you
  12. mixed altogether in one box LOL. i dont have that many though, maybe 20-25...
  13. i'm not questioning policies or anything. im just curious as to why the story is restricted here?
  14. i fish a small pond and its actually quite the opposite, i have better success on bigger lures. i bought a bunch of 3 inch grubs and some jig heads and never caught a thing out of the pond on them. not until i started using the grubs as spinnerbait trailers. natural forage can range from things like nice fat frogs to field mice to snakes to larger bugs to small bluegill and more. in the small pond i fish, i have had better success on larger soft plastics than smaller ones. also had more success on larger crankbaits than smaller ones.
  15. abu garcia or pflueger spinning reels and ugly stiks
  16. ive seen walmarts tackle slowly improve over the years. so has their reel selection. i havent seen any of the local ones upgrade rods though. my local one also never has sales. the other two that are further away but i pass on the way to work always have sales though, so i check them out on occasion. found a bunch of Red Eye Shads for 2.50 one time, and also some select rapalas were on sale for 2.50. i actually think they have a better selection of hooks and sinkers than BPS
  17. sounds like a very fun day. way to get the kids involved as well, sounds like they had a great day too
  18. wow, truely a great day of fishing for you. those are some fat fish. way to go
  19. its also my first time hearing of it. ive always heard if you get the male then its easier to get the female. as for the sticks, always put it on the same side
  20. i would use a hard jerkbait and shallow diving cranks like a 1-minus for pond fishing in cold water
  21. seems like i recall from past fishing shows and maybe some older threads here is that catching the male first makes the female a lot easier to catch. and the idea behind that was the male fish wouldnt be there to protect the female from biting. so no, if i was tournament fishing, i wouldnt throw back a 3lber for no reason.
  22. i mix and match stuff all the time. doesnt bother me really. i can see what KVD is saying, but i dont follow it. of course anything new, that youre not accustomed to using, is going to feel different. but after a few uses then im used to it. its about knowing your equipment to me, more so than just getting used to one brand of everything.
  23. he is selling the rod for party money no one studies at radford
  24. well, i certainly didnt mean it as a slap or a shot at anyone or to offend anyone. i never took things like disorders people may have into consideration when making my post. i have been viewing this thread with the thought everyone was basing their responses on personal preference for the most part, i never took outliers into consideration like someone having a disorder; or someone fishing in a public city park where music could bother others or possibly endanger you. so yeah, i was ignorant to other peoples situations, but i didnt intend to throw shots or possibly offend anyone. i guess you could say i was generalizing the question without factoring in anyones personal situation. then again, how am i supposed to consider ones situation without even knowing it exists? i would have to know details about everyone and add a caveat for them and thats not going to happen...or i am just putting my foot in my mouth again by saying that? while i didnt intend to offend anyone, i dont think my comments were over the top. see explanation above. i said what i said and i'll stand by it on the basis that people understand i wasnt taking every individuals personal situations into account, situations i didnt even know of or consider to begin with. my basic point is, i bass fish by feel and by sight, my hearing has nothing to do with it and therefore music does not affect my fishing in any way, just as chewing gum doesnt affect my walking in any way. im not going to miss fish because a little twisted sister or quiet riot is on in the background...
  25. zlonezp probably has my favorite avatar on the whole site(no offense to all the people with nice fishes). Al Bundy is my hero...
