  1. I have a Pflueger Asaro reel, was MSRP $129.99, and a very good reel similar in size/weight to a Shimano Citica 100dsv or a Daiwa Lexa 100, and the best of the three with finesse lures. Yes if you like Abu or Lews check out the Pfluegers too.
  2. Not a Megabass, but the one jerkbait I have confidence in over any other is a silent LC Pointer 95. I occasionally catch a bass on other jerk baits but only the silent one consistently catches em. Yes the negative is it doesn't cast as well as the Pointer 100.
  3. The PQ1 had better reviews, and I had the 5.2:1 version for awhile and it was ok for the money but nothing special. All those Lews, Abus, Pfluegers, BPS reels are decent if you get the Korean made $130+ MSRP ones especially if you get them on clearance. I would avoid the cheaper Chinese made ones. Now Cabelas had Daiwa made baitcasters like the Arachnid, a blue colored Tatula type R, one of the negatives of BPS buying them out.
  4. I had a flight attendant once say to me "I cannot believe they let you on the plane with that". I was not sure what she was talking about and she pointed to the hook clip on my hat. I'm like "ya I'm sure gonna do alot of damage with that" and shook my head.
  5. No need to buy anything too expensive just grab a Tatula CT 100P 5.5:1 gear ratio.
  6. I have the flyer....$119.97 for the rod, $124.97 for the bait caster, $69.97 for the spinning reel.
  7. To me Tatulas are already long cast reels, I would just stick to the CT or the 150 if you need the spool to hold more line and save a few $.
  8. Some years ago I bought a Daiwa Lexa from them on one of the holiday sales and it was discounted. So Daiwa should be included in the sale. Shimano has not always took part in the Bass Pro spring trade in, so I would call about whether you get the discount on them.
  9. That SLX MGL looks slick, just might be my 1st JDM reel!
  10. Just look up salt water beetle spin and you will see the bigger version.
  11. Read reviews and specs on Tackle Warehouse or Amazon. Another reel to consider is the Shimano Citica I. It is on clearance, and is the same reel as a Curado I without the saltwater rating.
  12. I have an old Team Daiwa S 6'3" topwater/twitchin rod . It has a fast action and very soft tip. I think Daiwa still makes it, there is a 6'3" M/F in the Tatula line that has full cork handles. $150 MSRP.
  13. Exact reel I use for those techniques, I previously used a Citica 100DSV which had the same IPT, I say stick with it.
  14. He probably means the Citica I which is on clearance everywhere, but yeah if you want a smaller reel and do not need the extra line capacity get the SLX XT, otherwise the Citica is probably the better reel.
  15. I'm with you I use a 6'6" MH Falcon Lowrider Herm Special rod for dropshot/split shot/shakey head, I dont see the need to go lighter unless I am crappie fishing, and no need for a longer rod these are not distance casting techniques .
  16. I just read about it. They are saying it's a working man's league but you need $5000 to buy into a tournament so it is not.

I wear contacts too, but now that I am 48 it is getting hard to read, and to tie fishing knots. I plan on buying glasses with readers and prescription sunglasses my optometrist has Oakleys. When not fishing I'll probably still wear contacts 90% of the time.
  18. I have some Basstrix ones I think the 5" are like 4.25" or so, I think Primetime is right about how they measure them, the Strike King Shadalicious though a 4.5" really is 4.5".
  19. If you want a M and a MH and you like St Croix, just get the 7' Premier series from Amazon and get free shipping, no need for the more sensitive Avids for cranks IMO.
  20. Daiwa Tatula CT or 150 with the 5.5 to 1 gear ratio for big blade baits, or any 5x gear ratio power reel.
  21. The rod that really started the split grip craze was the St Croix Mojo rod. If you had picked a 7'MH Mojo then picked up a 7'MH Premier you wouldn't notice the .1oz difference but that Mojo rod sure looked slick and sold like gangbusters all the other rod manufactures followed suit. So yes technically lighter but that's not why it became popular.
  22. Exactly Team Daiwa rods that became the Light and Tough series had split grips back in the 90s, it took over a decade for everyone else to offer them. That is how you know it is for looks or cost cutting, not about lighter weight and increased sensitivity the rod manufacturers claim or they would have copied Daiwa long before.
  23. Full cork just feels better to me, split grips are for looks.
