That pattern didnt hold up simply because only a few bass moved under the docks. I would have suggested throwing a jerkbait off rocky points and also watching for transitions that continue into the water. To get a big fish I would have said to throw an a rig.

Illinois has the most confusing language concerning the alabama rig. Basically if you have a 2 hook limit cut 3 hooks off a 5 hook rig and it is legal in all waters controlled by the Illinois DNR. If the lake is not controlled by the Illinois DNR then that lakes rules apply.

The only problem with this is that if someone is casting behind you or moves their rod tip behind your casting lane and you hit it you will get the craziest birds nest ever. Besides that you just have to be more vigilant.

The gears will blow up over time. This might not happen with a casual angler but it has happened to my friend after a few months of tournament fishing and he cleans his reels all the time. Its caused by all the stress put on the reel.

Yeah we are both 20 so we only have so many years experience but we both fish college tournaments, hes way more of a stick than I am. I have my stx on a mojo bass as well which is pretty funny. As long as you can feather your spool you will be fine. You can have some fun with the stx or any reel if you tighten the brakes down 100%. You can cast and slam into the water without getting any bird nests or anything like that. Just adjust it for every lure and use it for a specific purpose. Take your time and it will cast like a dream.

You are fine with that. I use 65lb braid with my a rigs. It will destroy your reel after time because it is not made for chunking big baits like the revo toro winch is made for. I know my revo winch will get ruined but I am fine with it.

It really depends on what I want to do. If I want to skip baits I keep them all off and feather the line as much as possible. With flipping I might have the brakes set on 2 or 3 and loosen the tension a little bit. If I cannot get distance I will take back the brakes a little bit though. My friend has thrown a bait caster since he has been 11 and he doesnt use the brakes at all. He just loosens his tension knob and feathers everything. It takes a lot of skill to do it but he never backlashes and can make pin point casts.

If I bomb an alabama rig I have caught fish almost 50yds away ( might be an exaggeration) but I have had fish caught from that distance. Though I still had a lot of fish follow it back to the boat and hammer it. The same with a jerk bait, I would make a 50 ft cast and catch them 10 ft from the boat. But what is really important is the location you are at. You are fishing from a point that wraps around and probably has some really good contours. Look at a Navionics map of the lake and see the depth levels and stuff.

Both quality rigs. Saving $15 on the manns is worth it though, I have broken cheaper brands in minutes.

Check your local bps/ walmart because many of them have been putting their mann's a rigs on sale for $10. Especially in and around Branson, MO.

Get yourself a heavier rod for the rig. It pays off in the long run. I used my 7 ft 9 H aetos for the first time and it worked flawlessly. The tip is great and it loads up perfectly when you get a bite. I can throw anything from 1/2 oz to 4oz so I can make a heavier a rig if I wanted to.

My friend uses an sx and it doesnt bother him. He knows it is going to destroy the reel but that is why he uses an older sx. I personally use a revo winch but I know that in time it might mess up my reel.

Just got back from table rock, mo the other day. They are killing them on alabama rigs down there. Though it has been slow due to the weather.

My mistake was spooling it on before a tournament without using it a ton. Decent line but it is blown out of the water compared to seaguar.

They have regulations like that in chicago. Do I ever follow them? Nope.

Make sure the webbing itself is rubber. Trying to untangle the treble hooks from nylon is a pain in the ass.

jerk bait, alabama rig, wiggle wart. try and cover some water and nail a pattern down. It will be tough.

Take 5 minutes and either cut 3 hooks off or use 3 dummy weights and you will catch more fish.

It really will be different than fishing an a rig since most of the time two topwater lures are used. Also with the right gear an a rig can feel a lot lighter, using a good casting form helps as well. I wanted to buy the double up rig just to try it out.

This was an accident plain and simple. we allow nascar yet they drive close to 200 mph and can die instantly. It is a risk of the sport .

Extremely small margins basically. If he doesn't know the answer to simple questions like this he really needs to re think getting into the business.
