  1. Its less about learning how to fish from a boat because its basically a moving shoreline. You fish the same way you normally would. The real key is learning boat control with that trolling motor.
  2. Put them in the cab in the passenger seat. Besides that I would buy a berkley rod rack and mount it somehow
  3. This might sound weird and like a ton of work but what I would do in my own house would be to cut a hole in the ceiling in one section to create a box for rods that are 8 ft long. I have tall ceilings in most rooms except my basement is pretty short. The peg boards work great but so do the metal selves for plastic rubber maid boxes and such. I would also put a desk in there with a tv/ computer. Make it essentially a man cave.
  4. noone bothers you fishing around there everyone does it. Ive hit boats from time to time.
  5. I wish I was by boat it wouldnt even be a challenge. I have saw someone in a red ranger fishing monroe last sunday when I was on a walk for cystic fibrosis. I am going to get out with a friend who has been dissecting burnham for the past week. Its been tough to get out early with work and all ( henrys).
  6. It was a great boat. Bass Cat Jaguar with a 250 on the back. Two hds 10s one up front one in the consol. Power poles / jack plate in the back. Thing flew on the water and fished great until that dreaded moment I woke up from my dream and realized I am still a broke ass college student...
  7. beer... In all seriousness prefish and practice. Also have good gear and have everything ready to go. Do your research before you even leave for the trip. Own a great net. Don't have a bullcrap $15 net that will tangle your baits. Spend money on an eco pro slider with a rubber insert or the frabil nets with rubber inserts. Learn how to net properly as well. Friends have lost tournaments because coanglers could not net properly. Never give up keep fishing. Slow down or speed up. If you get a call saying jerkbaits are on tie on a d**n jerkbait. We've had people on our team be hard headed and it cost us tournaments so be open to everything.
  8. I will save this thread because I asked the same question. Go with the mustang HIT with the auto inflate, it will not go off in the rain. The explanation can be found here http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/116106-pfds-life-jackets/ .
  9. The logic behind the rattle in the wind is because the added weight increases casting distance. I wouldnt want to cast a weightless bait into the wind. The way I learn new baits is busting my hump trying to catch fish on them.
  10. I dnt really use a split shot rig too often. I like to go weightless a lot though.
  11. This might not help but what I do for tournaments sometimes is ship my TW order to the hotel or campground office etc. That way I can have my bait there when I get there instead of waiting for it to be shipped home. Other wise I would check the bait in my luggage.
  12. 7 ft 9 H fenwick aetos revo winch reel 65lb braid manns a rigs or any other solid wire a rig strike king squadron heads or buckeye heavy or light wire depending on if you want to be able to bend the bait out reaction innovations skinny dippers or little dippers in the middle ill put a strike king shaddalicious or a yum money minnow. I have thrown an alabama rig on a 7 ft 3 mh with 12lb test it really is not fun and it feels like it is going to break every cast.
  13. The lightest line I ever spool on my baitcasters is 10lb, everything else is on spinning gear. What is the lightest you have comfortably cast on a baitcaster? I had a customers who come in wanting to use super light line and I have no experience with using anything under 10lb on a baitcaster. I suggested using a 30lb braid which is equivalent to 10lb test and a light leader as an option. They want to use very light lures as well. Honestly I couldnt sell them on using spinning gear they would only use a baitcaster. Ended up selling him an ultralight st croix avid and im still at a loss for words.
  14. Yeah it didnt produce but burnham / that area has been really slow for small mouth. I also went later in the day which might have been an issue. Erie darters and things of that nature do well though.
  15. If you can dissect the lake front I would say go for it. For some reason lake michigan kicks I disagree. Going to get some smallies this year though. If you want to catch 20+ lb carp then I would say go behind the shedd aquarium they are sitting on the rocks back there.
  16. Holy hell that thing could tow a small church.
  17. If you look in a dealer book they show cost and recommended msrp and such. Theyre around 45-55 to purchase as a dealer suggested msrp is $99. I prefer reels from a reel manufacturer and rods from a rod manufacturer. The dobyns glass rods are awesome as well as the st croix glass rods. For the mgx i would go higher end. Nothing wrong with having the veritas in your arsenal I just wouldnt pair that with my best reel.
  18. I would say upgrade the rod to a nice glass rod and have a great crankbait setup. Not trying to **** on the veritas but it really is a $45 rod paired with a much more expensive reel. That being said 12lb fluorocarbon, seaguar* or berkley 100% fluorocarbon. Get faster at tying knots a snap is just another ***** in the chain. Its just one more thing to go wrong imo. If you are changing your bait that means that you are not catching fish so what is the hurry? I never changes baits when I am catching fish so I just tie directly to the bait.
  19. Don't like the line. Its nowhere near as soft or limp as other lines and it stays coiled a lot.
  20. The Alabama Rig is Legal in lake Michigan in chicago/ illinois. The reason is because Lake Michigan is not a 2 hook lake. I had some guy try and tell me this wasnt the case when I was fishing but I had already confirmed the law with my boss. Also the reason it isnt 2 hook is because it would make power lining illegal and many people use power lines and trot lines in the lake.
  21. looks like there is more paint worn off from where you hit the rocks rather than caught fish.... jp lol
  22. I would buy the one to keep off of huddleston then and get an off the wall color like the nightstalker in 68 special. I wish they put out more of these baits then they do.
  23. Tie on a fluorocarbon leader if you do not want to take the braid off. In other words 50lb braid will suck for crankbaits.
  24. Makes sense now. I looked at the other lakes and a few had the 2 pole regulation, I guess I can throw a 5 hook rig then. Tomorrow will be interesting, hopefully I can catch one on it.
  25. I tend to skip them as well so that does some damage to the lure. I just wish the nose was a little more solid and the body collapsed. How are the 6in weedless I never fished them since they arent on TW and Im not going to pay out the ass for them on the hudd site.
