  1. I was told to get the green mirror and to me they are going to be fishing only glasses. I have ray bans for driving and numa's for water sports and other stuff.
  2. did you use a car md or other device to check the computer?
  3. My uncle used to hold a membership and own land their if I am not mistaken. Ive always wanted to fish it but he hasnt gone out there in years.
  4. kvd elite series bag. Its huge and holds everything I need as a coangler. Its less about the bag and more about the boxes you use inside them. If you use actual spinnerbait boxes and crankabit boxes you will be better organized and can fit more stuff. Especially if you use the thin boxes for hooks and such.
  5. Was the bb1 the value reel for lews back in the day? I don't like the way it feels compared to the tournament pro. I havent fished it enough to have a dedicated opinion but I would only but a bb1 in the 5:4 for its crankbait abilities.
  6. IMO you shouldnt have to shake your rod to let the lure fall. I should hit the release and the bait should fall and hit the ground and not backlash. The best brake is the one god gave you. Also a 3/8oz jerkbait on a heavy action or even a med heavy is going to cast like crap compared to a dedicated jerkbait rod. I might be wrong on that but I like using a 6'6" m moderate action rod for jerkbaits maybe someone can convince me to change it.
  7. Diawa lexa 1500 is as small as I go and I love it.
  8. Ive tried a few different styles of hooks and so far my favorite is a gama finesse hook or a stand out hook. I havent used the gama spin shot * hooks but I do like the concept. I have used the vmc version of the spinshot and it is awful, the hooks break plain and simple. Remember if the fish are biting on crankbaits then don't throw a dropshot. Sometimes i cant get a bite on a jerkbait but when I switch to a standard crankbait I get bit.
  9. I am in the process of hanging two sets of berkley horizontal locking rod racks in my college apartment. Itll cost me about $15 when it is all said and done and I will be able to hold 8 rods. Sure this isnt all of my combos but at least it gets my expensive stuff out of the corner. At home I have two brackets that are meant to be used to hang shelves in garages to hold rods up. Those cost $12 a piece but when secured properly they can support 200lbs+. This means that they can hold all of my rods along with all of my tackle bags and other gear. Theyre also padded so it is pretty nice.
  10. Where I am at we have the same problem and a frog has not been producing. I have gotten a few blowups but none would commit. I caught most of my fish on a wacky rigged senko and a crankbait on the weed lines
  11. Basically got a new club boat that is on a 12v battery. The old boat has newer TM and electronics so I am going to switch them over. Honestly I have never done it but my old president is a gear head so he is going to guide me through it. The problem with being away at school is that all my tools are at home. I am headed home today so what tools should I grab? I assume wire cutters, electrical tape, socket wrench set, wd40, needlenoose pliers, channel locks, hammer, screwdrivers and so on. Is there anything that I might need or things I should pay attention to? Also could I upgrade the boat from a 12v to a 24v just by using the stuff of the old boat?
  12. Im surprised no one mentioned this yet but bluegill sometimes attack the tail end of senkos. The bite is completely different than that of a bass and is pretty annoying. GIve yourself time to set the hook. Once you feel the bite reel down until you feel pressure and set the hook. If you have to pick up a bunch of slack in your line you will never have a solid hookset.
  13. How much do creel limits effect a lake's bass / fish population? The reason I ask this is because a local lake (15 acre at best) next to my University is constantly producing small fish. Every big bass is few and far between and small fish are plentiful. The creel limit is six bass over 14in and in my opinion catching one 14in fish in that lake is an accomplishment. The real issue with this situation is that I am not the only one holding this opinion. My club hosts regular small bank fishing tournaments on this lake and even with 20 competitive bass anglers fishing it only shorts are brought in. Should we contact the national resources department at our school and ask if they can do a study? We catch and release but should we begin taking fish out? I know my friends do it to maintain their farm ponds so maybe we can turn it into a charitable thing. Let me know your opinion on this issue.
  14. You want a band aid or something? Ive had worse paper cuts lol. Rub some dirt in it and get back to fishing
  15. Depends on the club. In my club we have about 20% of the tournament winnings return to the club. If you win a boat it goes to the club. The classic is a different ball of wax. For that you really are representing yourself more than you are the club. It really depends on the club what happens to the winnings. Honestly I never want the NCAA to get into bass fishing because it would be destroyed. Sponsorships and tournament winnings literally keep us from going bankrupt. If I had to pay full price for every rod/reel/lure I owned I would be so far in debt. Also would the FLW and Boat Us get along? How about private tournaments? With the NCAA running the show they would limit a lot of things.
  16. I fish in college and if you ever bring up fishing around a girl 95% of the time she mentions fishing with her gpa/parents when she was 5. Bass fishing is literally 3 steps above floor hockey in terms of impressing girls lol.
  17. Any word on a labor day sale? Ive fallen in love with the cavitron buzzbaits and plan on buying a decent amount of them. I had the biggest bass of my life on yesterday but he broke off due to me being an idiot.
  18. That is a really good setup IMO. In my head I am starting to think about fall and throwing squarebills. I suggest getting a 6'6 or a 7ft m moderate rod ( the cumara rod should be fine) but also a decent spinning setup. Two rods is enough for someone to get going and you can honestly fish almost every lure on a 7ft m rod. Dicks sporting goods has some great sales going on right now. My friend bought 3 rapalas for 7 bucks and some other plastics really cheap. Your best bet is to meet up with a fishermen and have them help you pick out a setup. Go to bass pro and talk to the people at the reel counter.
  19. The first video was decent kinda funny but in the second she was trying way to hard.
  20. I tournament fish so I understand slot limits. I meant to say in the slot limit or under the creel limit , twas a typo.
  21. Yesterday I accidentally gut hooked a fish because I was too busy teaching a coworker about bass fishing. After I landed the fish I spent a good amount of time working on the fish and removing the hook. I used the gill method for the first time and it actually worked. I know for a fact that when I finally revived that fish it swam away somewhat healthy. Do you think spending the time getting the hook out is worth it if the fish happens to die because it was out of the water too long? Or would you rather cut the line and hope it lives? I would rather get the hook out and give the fish a shot to live. Also what happens if you gut hook a bass and it dies and it was under the slot limit?
  22. First things first you have one month to prepare for this tournament. That means that prefishing today does not help you. You need to do some map studying. This website probably has map sponsors but I personally use fishidy, lake link, navionics and other websites to study maps. You also want to google search tournament results on that lake. If that lake has had elite series tournaments you will find exactly how the tournament was won. I do not fish in your area so I cannot say how the fish will be acting. For me I tend to look for the fish to be following bait into the back of coves. This can all change because as we all know the weather has been insane. Make a few posts on the local section to see who fishes your lake. When it comes to a week or two weeks before the tournament pre fish. Honestly if you have a boat and some free time get out on the lake with the sonar and look for points of interest. The best advice I can give is to learn the lake before you even start fishing. Mark waypoints on the lake and take pictures.
  23. Being a professional fisherman IMO is a lot harder than a businessman or doctor. Yes they are completely different and both require different skills and levels of intelligence but a pro has to be a businessman as well as compete. For a doctor or businessman to get started they most go to school, attend college etc. In todays college market you can get a loan/ scholarship almost anywhere. I dont think it will be easy to convince a bank to give you a loan so you can compete in fishing tournaments. Just like any profession you are not going to start at the top. Before a doctor starts a practice he is going to spend years working in other hospitals just like a fishermen works his way up the ladder. I am almost positive that every pro has some sort of business on the side that funds their tournaments. But yeah I am not a doctor , businessman or pro so I cant really say much.
  24. Most of the time I just throw the rod gloves back on because even with line wrapped I had one get snagged and snap and I feel that the wraps somehow didnt allow the rod to bend or put stress in a weird spot. I could be paranoid but I dont want that happening to my expensive rods. ( always used to wrap them in the past) . What I hate the most worse than the fourth guide is leaving the bait hanging from the tip. I tend to jump around on the boat especially when going for the net and I really do not want a hook in my leg.
  25. The smallest rebel craw they make is killer on the more aggressive bluegill. Also mini mites and wedges work great. I love using a glow mini mite.
