  1. Try the damiki hydra. Half the price of the fat ika and it has a great action.
  2. I do not want to break the forum rules so I will keep this post short and simple. If you are a high school coach and are looking for a tournament for your team PM me. If you are in high school in Illinois and want to fish a tournamen but do not have a team PM me. The only requirement is to be in high school and have an adult boater, no team required. There are a lot of illinois high schools that do not have teams but have many eager anglers. I will provide more information if there is interest.
  3. I have heard this question asked multiple times by college anglers in the school of advertising. I am pretty sure a couple of my friends have done papers on it as well. That being said tournament results play a key in the style of bait but I am a firm believer that some colors catch people more than they do fish. For example salt and pepper colored crankbaits may catch fish but they catch more anglers imo.
  4. You need to get a boomerang tool. They cost between 10-15 and the will be the best set of cutters you will ever own. Also get the 3601 or 3701 sized boxes. For hooks and sinkers you can use a shorter box like the 3601 , this applies to small crankbaits as well. This allows you to carry more boxes in your tackle bag. As said before get some chatterbaits (bladed jigs). I always have at least one knife in my bag for emergencies. The biggest suggestion I would say is a headlamp. Setting up the boat before sunrise is a breeze with a headlamp. I suggest the zebralight H51 Headlamp AA 200Lm model ZLH51. Trust me it will be the best investment you have ever made.
  5. Have two systems for culling. The marker balls and also the floating strings. If your boater uses balls then use the string and vice versa. This way you know which fish is yours. You can use a digital scale to get the exact weight but you can also do this by eye. It is more important to have a system for your tags than it is knowing each exact weight. A beam is the most effective tool to use. If your scale breaks then you will have to fall back on your tag system. Do not rely on electronics , they fail at the worst possible times.
  6. Exactly the reason. Worst system ever. In the middle of a transaction an error pops up with a number to call. Its the number to pay child support, we have to explain to the customer that there is an error and they have to call X number. So here I am at a tackle shop selling a license to a dead beat dad that is 6ft 5 300lbs. I am not small at all but this guy makes me look like a twig. How do i know that hes not going to snap on me.
  7. Yep Illinois does. $15 for a license AND 6.50 more for a salmon stamp. Though I like having the social security as a requirement. You would not believe how many illegal immigrants come in to buy fishing licenses.
  8. Im going to go with either the 74 m or the 79 h . depends on if i want a crankbait or a heavy cover rod.
  9. What skirt material does northstar baits use? I know some people use fishing skirts.com which brand does he use?
  10. Anything with a treble hook would work fine. I would use a mh for a texas rig.
  11. I suggest 12lb fluorocarbon and a fenwick hmg. It will not break the bank and it is a great rod. The 6'6 m is a great crankbait rod for smaller 1.5 sized crank baits.
  12. Was this a local shop or like a dicks/bps? My shop only carries the hmg lineup. I don't like buying a rod without feeling it but I trust fenwick rods.
  13. I might buy the aetos for swimbaits.
  14. It is close to this but is not this exactly. I feel that it will be a huge game changer in certain conditions if it preforms like I was told it would.
  15. I do just fine with zoom finesse worms. It is true that hand pours are softer but I also feel that they are way to limp.
  16. You will probably get a few bites and the ones you do catch will be big. I skunked on a post frontal while my friends only fish was a 4.5lb lmb. I actually had about 5 swipes on my spinnerbait but the fish didnt swallow it.
  17. I have felt many soft plastics that are handmade and none of them have appealed to me. The same with the way they fish. I have not found a soft bait that I like better homemade than mass produced. The only time I like homemade over mass produced is when it comes to jigs and spinnerbaits. Granted the spinnerbait I like a lot is a $15 spinnerbait. I havent used any hand painted cranks but honestly those are just customized mass produced lures. Does anyone have a hand poured bait or homemade bait that they swear by? Or are you like me and hate them.
  18. I havent found water anywhere near me except power plant lakes. Most guys have their boats in storage until tournaments start next week.
  19. I got Ike to sign a lews hat a couple weeks ago.
  20. You need to pre fish every tournament you can and find spots close to the launch point. With a 6hp I would suggest only going into tournaments with a 10 hp limit. If you enter a tournament with a 250 hp limit guys will beat you to all of your spots. The key to tournaments is being able to move to spots quickly so I suggest mapping out the fastest routes. When we have team tournaments and some guys only have 50 hp boats we make sure they stick close to the launch while the guys with 250s and 150s make the longer runs.
  21. You are looking at $500- $600 worth of jerseys there. It all depends on what you put on the jerseys and if they need to use a designer. I would suggest trying to make as much money as possible to cover half the cost of the jerseys and the other half to going towards paying for tournament costs. The way my club does it is that you pay full price for your jersey but the club will pay for most of your tournament costs.
  22. http://www.allfishingbuy.com/Fishing-Rods-Action.htm Look at that site for a good visual of the difference. If you need more info ask away.
  23. Pretty good for a semi small show. Tons of people there, also a few pros/semi pros to talk to. Good to see high school teams and college anglers. There was a ton of baits, lures, reels etc for sale.
  24. These post really make me laugh. Not because you need help but because fishing in february up north is such much different than down south. I would love to have 50+ water temps right about now. Even power plant lakes are tough this time of year. Have fun man you should have a good time.
  25. I just met a guy that has his own company and uses this technique on everything. The best is on save phace masks. I want to do it on my reels but then I would have to void my warranties.
