  1. Just nice to see his sponsors giving gear to the club. Sponsor discounts are nice but it really does lighten the load when you get free gear that you would have had to pay for.

Different type of action between a crankbait and a swimbait.
  3. I use a dobyns 735c you can do all of this on it. jigs, Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, swim jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, hard and soft swimbaits, soft frogs, hollow belly frogs, and smaller umbrella rigs. It is a MH Xf rod. I highly recommend it.
  4. This is more of a pro style tactic but essentially your pre fishing bag should look polar opposite to your tournament day bag. Pre fishing day you should be loaded down with gear and multiple colors of different style of baits. Once you develop a pattern then you know what you can leave out of your bag. If it turns out that the boater is going to be cranking then it is a waste of space to be loaded down with plastics. That being said you can do what I do and have two bags. The big bag is basically everything I need for a tournament not narrowed down. This bag stays buried under the consol. The other smaller bag has terminal tackle and whatever hard/soft baits I am going to use. That way I dont have to search in a giant bag for my baits. Also in the winter I always have a jacket on with huge pockets that I carry the color of plastic I am throwing.
  5. dobyns 735c - jigs & frogs & texas rigs etc - $250 msrp st croix mojo mass 7ft mh f -- jigs frogs texas rigs spinnerbaits etc - $100 msrp - dobyns 765CB Glass. - crank baits - $250 msrp st croix mojo glass 7 4 medium - crankbaits -$120 msrp st croix mojo glass 78 med heavy -deep crankbaits -$120 ( find a good glass rod for cranking I suggest a Mh to cover all depths)
  6. The reason I brought up fluorocarbon was because the post you commented on said he changes line a lot and uses fluorocarbon. You need to watch out for bends in fluorocarbon more than you do mono hence having to cut a couple of inches off and retrying more often.
  7. This reminds me about a review of the new abu revo stx. The guy basically said the reel was junk and he could not cast it at all. He was going to send it back to abu to see what the problem was. When he went to take the reel off the rod he noticed that the line was not going through the worm guide on the STX. I could only imagine how dumb he felt lol.
  8. I will pay you to not buy a carrot stick. They are nothing but trouble and a waste of money. Personally I do not like the veritas because I much prefer fenwick or dobyns. I feel that the veritas has very significant quality control problems, every one I have held has had some minor issue. I would rather go for a st croix mojo bass which is a little tip heavy but that is expected in a $100 rod. There is a lot of good info here but I suggest finding someone locally that has experience with these rods. I may look on here for input but ultimately I go to someone on my team that has been using the gear for years.
  9. Tough loss man, you need to be careful and know the limits of your boat. Glad everyone was ok.
  10. You can buy the the stickers they use for broken packages and run the ring through that so you can open the baits up. They are called hang tags and they will solve the problem of not being able to open the baits.
  11. I like that rig the treble is a good stinger hook.
  12. The only problem with ebay is that I need to know a base price , also i like working with guys rather than selling it to the person with the biggest wallet. For instance I have a rod here that some in worse condition have gone for $700 and more recent models are going for $200. That is a huge price gap.
  13. Thats my old frogging rod, solid rod.
  14. About 3 or 4 electronics, all the old tackle was sold off last year. There is a lot of flying stuff everything from hulah skirts ( he made custom spinnerbaits not with the new style of skirt material but a rubber kind of hulah popper type skirt) , cast iron fly tying vice, feathers and such really is a ton of stuff. http://i.imgur.com/rhGZNHn.jpg
  15. This was gear donated to our club from an old school guy that did a lot of custom fly tying 20 years ago so its pretty dated. Lots of the old school hulah popper skirts. All of the old lures were sold to a traveling historical lure exhibit. Any thing a youth group could use has been given out to multiple already.
  16. Then dont get the powell your better off with the dobyns.
  17. I have a lot of vintage fishing equipment that has been donated to our club. Most of this stuff is in great condition but i dont want to hang on to it if it is garbage. I have everything from hand held fish finders to lowrance imaging units. Please PM me if you can help me identify some of it then I will gladly send some of it your way.
  18. Both companies make the same style spinner bait I guess. Check them out here http://www.***.com(/Persuader_Imaged_Blade_Spinnerbait/descpage-PERIMGB.html) < remove the ( )
  19. You do not need that heavy of a frogging rod unless you are in some crazy thick stuff. I like using a dobyns 735c because it has the length but also the extra fast tip that is good for frogs. Trust me if you get that rod you will fall in love with it and never look back.
  20. Try living in chicago, the stores in the city dont have anything for fishing.
  21. I normally throw a frog over scum and muck. Sometimes I throw an up water frog which can produce as long as you have the right conditions. Some small creeks I just walk in to without waders and throw crank baits and anything I would from a boat or the shore line.
  22. Post a picture of that, how is the belly treble secured?
