  1. Gerald Swindle or Ike both down to earth guys who know their stuff.
  2. The biggest difference I have seen is that they stay weedless and have a better hook up ratio because you only burry the hook in thin ribs and not thick plastic. Give em a shot once this weather warms up, try candy grass or love bug they have them in almost every dicks. The one out in orland has them, little bit of a drive though.
  3. I would stick with the 7ft 3 in length much better distance and power IMO. I recommend the dobyns 735c it is a great rod. If you havent fished with a shorter rod test it out, for me i dont really like short rods . I feel that they are missing that extra length for many presentations. Then again I am about 6ft 2 so that plays a role.
  4. thats odd, where I worked we sold Berkley line 30 to 1 over p line. The only guy that bought it would spool up 3 or 4 reels with it. Really? Have you fished the berkley 100% yet? It doesnt stretch and it also doesnt coil up like other line, its also very relaxed .
  5. You also feel the difference in deflection and such with fluoro
  6. Braid floats, fluorocarbon sinks. You want low visibility line with barely any stretch. 10lb-12lb fluorocarbon is the best
  7. berkley 100% fluorocarbon , i really hate p line with a passion.
  8. Wait til the ice leaves? No you get yourself a 2oz bullet weight and punch the ice, thats what its made for.
  9. I wish the why nots had more colors.
  10. Pit bosses are so cheap too, you can find em for lke $1.5
  11. Numa makes some nice sunglasses that cost $100 and can be bent in half. They are pretty d**n tough and also have replaceable lens. Wiley X also has some awesome fishing sunglasses. Costa's seem nice I have no tried them on yet though.
  12. I normally throw it texas rigged or punch with it, i havent used it as a jig trailer yet.
  13. Any stand up head is better IMO than a round ball head, I was going to pick up some custom cast shakey heads at $1.3 a piece if that puts it in perspective.
  14. Has anyone used these yet? I love them, they slide right out of the way when you go to set the hook but stay intact after many fish. The only time I have to rebait is when I get snagged and have to break off. Does anyone know of a similar bait that feels the same in your hand( the ribs )? I have felt other baits and most do not feel as smooth as this does. I know reaction innovations make a beaver bait that a lot of my friends swear by. Does anyone have a similar bait they enjoy to throw?
  15. When you set the hook into a fish and the treble hooks snap or the split ring then you will understand why it is worth paying $5+ a bait. Compare the materials on baits you can tell which have quality hooks and split rings and which are garbage. I have bought cheap lures because they were a couple bucks on sale but only as loaners or to give them to kids to mess around with.
  16. I would use the 6:1 with the mh if the rod is at least 7ft in length using it for spinnerbaits ,topwaters and trigs ( assuming these are baitcasters correct?) Then I would take the 5:1 and put it on the M action and use it for shallow cranks and medium depth cranks (0-12ft maybe ) You can also throw the spinner bait on it. I have thrown everything on my 7ft mh with a 6:4 ratio abu garica STX. Your best bet is to use 10lb fluorocarbon on both reels to get some versatility out of them. I know this is kind of confusing , PM me if you have questions for years I threw everything on a berkley lighting rod spinning combo with an abu garcia cardinal reel.
  17. 5in senkos and Missile baits d bombs
  18. Great rig for catching bass in thick junk. Make sure you have the right gear because it puts a lot of stress on your rod and reel.
  19. Rocks hold heat in better than regular shoreline so your best bet is to find a rocky area that is in the sun all day and is protected from the wind. That is the most I can provide on the topic.
  20. There are videos of people that have received orders from that website. That being said there is a big difference between cheap lures and a quality product. As another member quoted on a previous thread "life isnt a sprint , its a marathon" Buy quality now and it will last, I would rather have 5 heavily used quality lures than 15 junk lures than break after making contact with something. As a new member check out the flea market, most guys sell their used lures less than cost.
  21. Im surprised this hasnt been mentioned but that low gear ratio (5..1.) is better for deep cranking than it is for jigs, topwaters and worms.
  22. That is the thing , I havent had much experience throwing a jig 90% of the time. I used to fish crank baits , spinnerbaits and wacky rigs more than I dix a jig and this past fall the jig was not as productive on the lakes I fished, it was all about beating the bank with square bills. The second I went bank fishing jigs played a key role, all depending on the body of water. I have had sub 50 fish days with wacky rigs but have caught nicer fish on a jig. I plan on throwing a jig a lot more often though.
  23. If your problem is catching fish on an A-rig then it might just be a bait situation. If your problem is that you cannot catch fish on anything you throw and the bite is tough I would say slow down and fish a different bait. The A-rig works best when the bait fish are schooled up and the bass are going after them. If the bass are feeding on crawfish then the arig wont be the best application.
  24. Cut a hole in the ice and check. First ask locals if the ice is thick enough, if you see shacks and cars on the ice then it should be good. Stay clear of mouths of rivers the ice is thinner.
  25. You are being hit with a lot of information but yes that is correct in the red. The reason a texas rig works is because of the fall and also when the bait hits the bottom subtle twitches cause the bait to move on the bottom, also hops and such. when using a bait with appendages , for example missile bait d bomb, on the fall they flutter and also twitch when you shake them. This entices fish because if they do not hit it on the fall sometimes they follow the bait down to the bottom and nose it and wait for movement then hit it. Also the worm doesnt always sit flat depending on the bottom.
