  1. As many young colleges students I aspire to make a boat load of money when I am older. Once that is done I plan on blowing a good chunk of it on a boat. Most of the guys on this forum have dealt with many boat companies and models. What is a boat that you would suggest for someone that has the money to spend? Would it be a legend, triton, ranger, lund, bass cat etc ? Which model? Would it have a 250 on the end? Which boat would give me the biggest bang for my buck with the smoothest ride and best storage ability? Kind of an opinion based topic so do not turn it into a "Ranger is better because I said and your argument is invalid because I am always right" kind of thread. I guess I was not clear enough , dream boat.
  2. I always used to wacky rig them and skip them under the docks to catch the fish that most fishermen cannot get a lure at. Go on ebay and find some o rings ( i purchased 300 for $3) and a sharpie and there you have an o ring tool. Now That I have 10+ packs of senkos I like testing out them texas rigged, though I prefer a creature bait texas rigged.
  3. As LMGamlbler pointed out you are just looking for a different technique other than a texas rig. If you want you bait to float use a stand up jig or a shakey head rig paired with an unsalted worm. There was just a new video posted on the board about shakey heads that will be helpful.
  4. When a carrot stick is being suggested over another rod that should set alarms off in your head.
  5. I worked in a local bait shop, it is a good idea for general locations at best. Yes we will gladly list local forest preserves and sometimes will give away our spots if we have time and like you. I found my best spots and new locations using google maps and visiting multiple lakes and ponds in a day. Do not call in and ask for locations at your local tackle shop, stop in the day before you plan on going out say your are looking to try out a new area for bass and want to know what will work in said area. Honestly if it is a slow day we will talk forever and spill more information as you become a regular. I much rather see my regulars fishing my locations than the "bucket fishermen" that pass through the shop.
  6. I fish strictly right land retrieve. I doubt I wont like it but I know where to come if i do
  7. How is this working in the spring? I have a tournament coming up. Honestly up north its not the same, a lot less bites but a lot bigger.
  8. I am putting in order in for a lews tournament pro in the next coming week. I was planning on getting an STX because i love how it feels but I have a deal on a lews at the moment so i am taking advantage of it.
  9. Glad my friend works at michaels so I can use her discount lol Thanks guys.
  10. I have a Cabela's Fishing Utility Bag that I bought for ten bucks to use as a bag for impromptu trips where i did not want to carry my entire bag down to the water. That lasted all of a month and now it holds almost every bag of soft plastics i own from 10+ bags of senkos, to trailers, to zoom worms. A binder would be a nicer choice but I havent found one I like. A trapper keeper that zips up is something I plan on trying.
  11. The jig really isnt the go out and catch 30 fish lure in my opinion. It may take 20 pitches to land a fish but when you do you'll be impressed.
  12. I assume you buy your wire in bulk but can you recommend a trying wire for someone who may make 20-50 in the span of a year or two.
  13. What type of wire do you use?
  14. I plan on buying one for cranking pretty soon. We shall see how it works out.
  15. What other setups do you have? If you have 3 or 4 other rods then I would say sure go with a dedicated flipping and pitching rod. By that I mean the dobyns line 765FLIP 766FLIP and 805FLIP /punch. If you are like me and want to be able to flip /pitch and throw a frog or even a texas rig go with the dobyns 735c. I have that rod sitting right in front of me and I cannot think of a better rod for the price. Also it is a full grip which i am a fan of.
  16. You think those are big check these out.
  17. What rod/ reel are you using, just wondering.
  18. 2012 bass master rules section 7 " Only ONE casting, spin casting or spinning rod (8 foot maximum length from butt of handle to rod tip) and reel may be used at any one time." ^ That is for the opens so yes the flipping stick is legal if you are fishing opens.
  19. I am probably going to buy a few of their pfg fishing shirts for the summer time. The PFG drain maker is a must for anyone loading a boat up. You can jump in the water and it literally drains out the bottom as you step out, awesome technology.
  20. Make your way up to illinois and I can point you in the direction of my zara super spook.
  21. If they have a big enough boat see if you can get upfront especially if you are flipping and pitching. You really need to step up your game as a co angler and get well rounded in many techniques. If your boater starts catching fish one a KVD 1.5 bouncing it off logs you better tie on a 1.5 and hit every log he misses. If he is fishing fast and running the trolling motor dont do something that requires you to sit for an extended period of time. Practice as much as you can and have your equipment ready. If you are throwing senkos have them in your shirt or jacket pocket at the ready to retie if it breaks off. You need to be efficient with your time and you need to know when to give up and try a different technique.
  22. Lets stick with the traditional jig with a brush guard and skirt so that we are on the same page. A swim jig tends to have a straight in line weight with a darted head. The line tie comes directly off the point allowing you to swim it in line. A football style head has a line time at almost a 30 degree angle from the point . Each jig has a different style of presentation which can be confusing at first.
  23. Best solution is to go to the dobyns rod website (http://dobynsrods.com/index.php) and buy yourself any rod on there. Then in a few days when it arrives it will be shipped in a pvc tube , solves your travel problem and on top of that you get a new rod. It really is a win win situation.
  24. What is your favorite fishing clothing item? I recently acquired a columbia PFG squall line parka and have not looked back at any of my old rain/ wet weather gear. By far one of my favorite jackets and I can add any insert I wish to the inside. What is some gear that makes your day on the water way more comfortable?
  25. I have fished the tournament pro and I like it a lot but I am wondering which lews reel is best suited for frogging and jigging on a dobyns 735c. Already have the rod looking to buy a reel for it. The model it is competing against is an abu garcia revo stx 7.1 ratio. Any opinions between the tournament pro, bb1 and super duty.
