  1. Blooms on my dogwood tree are ready to pop open. Cold front this weekend will slow them down but I expect warmer temperatures next week will cause them to blossom and the bass will be on their beds!!!! Better late than never.
  2. I found the book, The Complete Fisherman and Anglers Manual or How to Catch Fish, in my home library and took it with me today to read while waiting to take a test at the hospital. (All was OK. It was a nuclear test to see if I had a cracked rib) The original book was written in 1903 by Francis H. Buzzacott and reprinted in 2001 by B.A.S.S. On page 20 Buzzacott penned the following: "Again, fish bite well before rains, seldom well after; simply because rains wash foods in plenty from earth and soil, bringing with it and stirring up other life, at the same time, hence they are busy seeking food in such places (unknown to you) where past familiarity with the waters have taught them nature sends food to him in a more plentiful, easier way." Of course, we all know about cold fronts and then bluebird skies but to read what this guy pens is outstanding, especially for someone over 100 years ago who had no scientific studies or expensive equipment nor lots of baits, rods, reels and techniques to catch bass, plus books and magazines on bass fishing. Very interesting book to read to note what was thought about fishing in general over 115 years ago and how we are doing the same things, but with more scientific data to support what we do. Just thought you all would get a kick out of what Buzzacott wrote all those years ago and it is still true.
  3. My advice is: buy all of your tackle, baits, rods, reels, line, plastics, new boat and motor, all boating accessories and all maps plus subscribe to all of the magazines you can before you get married. Just a word from experience. You are welcome.
  4. What about the length of the stands? I like Starflash skirts.

  8. Cold weather and snow in Wxrisk's April 2nd and April 7th and 8th forecasts. Wxrisk.com added 3 new photos. · 1 hour · WINTER FROM HELL CONTINUES with 2 more snow chances APRIL 2 and APRIL 7-8. Lets talk about 4/2 event first IMAGE #1 is how the MODELS are dealing with APRIL 2 (mostly in the MORNING) . Now earlier in the week this event look like it would impact central & southern WVA / VA /eastern MD with wet snow/ rain. THAT HAS SHIFTED NORTH The cold front on APRIL 1 that comes in looks to be delayed. Therefore the LOW that develops on the front is d...elayed as well... so the snow will ONLY impact far NORTHERN VA (N of I-66) / all of western & central MD/ north half of WVA/ southern half of PA/ NJ .. North of I-66. NWS DC has issued an early snow map which IMO is way too aggressive with snow amounts in DC BAL and northern VA ... SEE IMAGE #3 -- IMAGE #3 shows that surface temps are WELL above 32 degrees over most of Northern VA DCA BAL even into areas such as Winchester VA and Hagerstown MD See More 58 Comments 180 Shares

  12. Wow! Fantastic opportunity for someone who has the financial capabilities to make the investment. Sorry to read about you considering retirement. You are a fantastic ambassador for bass fishing. And a good guy, too. Good luck with the sale. Hopefully, an individual will take the plunge and not a large corporation who will destroy what you have created. P.S. With all that time on your hands you can look for Jimmy Hoffa's body!

  15. Derek, if those pictures are your idea of a "good morning" then you are our hero!!!! Great catches! May you and all who read this post have parallel "good mornings" this year. Welcome to the Forum!
  16. Officer in the United States Army. Got to go to the Orient where I was a company commander and I got to hurt people and break things compliments of Uncle Sam. Entered active duty June 1968 and served until June 1974. Was asked to re-up to be a captain but my three brushes with death were too much for me so I left the Orient and returned to the good ole USA where men's shoes had tassels. That was a major surprise. Men's shoes with tassels. Who came up with that idea? For some reason I made it out in one piece. Don't think back on those days anymore. Or the guys and gals who did not come home. Just thankful that I can go fishing and enjoy every day, good or bad. .
  17. Bob, that is a Mardi Gras King Cake. It is sold by the thousands during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It is outstanding! Brew some hot coffee and sit at the table and eat to your heart's delight. Look up King Cake on the Internet and you will find out about it. And then, next Mardi Gras season, order one from Randazzos Bakery and pass a good time. It is a delicacy!!!!
  18. No one fishes Rock Creek Park Lake as it is too shallow. But maybe you will have better luck. Take a shot at the dam area.
  19. Try the pond behind Friday's. There are houses on one side which blocks that area but by the apartments you may be able to fish. Actually there is one big pond divided by a dam. But you can't cross the dam as it has an opening for the water to flow between each area. Some nice bass have been pulled out of the Arboretum ponds before security runs you off. But give it a shot. No idea of what is in those ponds now. Let me know how you do. Could be a good place. Be safe.
