A friend nailed a mallard while casting. No one saw the bird as it approached from his rear but we all heard it when the bird got tangled in the line. Luck for the duck he did not get stuck with the hook, but man did he flap his wings and bite at us as we got him untangled. Those flapping wings can really hurt and cause confusion. He flew away with no side effects. It was the biggest catch of the day, too!

Boating safety course is mandatory in Virginia as of 2007 and applies to all operators of motorboats registered in Virginia with a 10 horsepower or greater outboard motor. Anyone operating a motorboat with a 10 horsepower or greater motor as of July 1, 2016 must take and pass the safety course and have their card or certificate with them on the boat. All motorboat operators need to take the approved safety boating education classes as outlined by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Jet-ski operators of all ages are required to take and pass the course, too. You can take it in a class or on-line but you have to have your documentation on your person when you are operating a watercraft or a jet-ski on Virginia waters.

Profile and the size of your bait. Although you may throw a silver Shad Rap to mimic the minnows, you need to throw a Shad Rap that is the same size as the minnows. And don't forget your unweighted wacky rigged stick baits, too.

Snappy, go to You Tube and look for the Poche and Hackney videos as they are from Louisiana and you may pick up some pointers from them. While in Baton Rouge at the LSU lakes, go see Mike the Tiger! Lots and lots of grass by the sorority and frat houses but there are places to fish along the banks. There is a small pond in Mike's cage but I don't recommend you try to fish it. Audubon Park Lagoon is another selection in NOLA along with City Park Lakes. This body of water is located off St. Charles Avenue across from the Toolame University campus in the Uptown section of the city. Check it out on Google Maps and then Google Earth via Audubon Park Lagoon. We called the lagoon island "Monkey Island" although I think all the monkeys were removed many, many years ago. You can park along the ring road where legal, or along Calhoun Street, and walk to the lagoon. We used to fish to the west of the bridge across from the island when I was a kid. Caught lost of different fish such as bass, crappie (Sac-A-Lait), bream, bluegills, and catfish. Be sure to have your Louisiana fishing license with you at all times and check in at the lagoon's Magazine Street office to find out if you need a special license to fish the Audubon Park Lagoon. We never fished the golf course ponds as there was no reason why with such good fishing in the lagoon. And you don't have to worry about snakes or alligators along the bank. Maybe. And when you are in New Orleans on Mardi Gras day, you want to go to St. Claude and Dumaine to see the Zulu King. And if you wait, you will see the Zulu Queen! Its Mardi Gras time, so stay out of the French Quarter as we do not want you to either go blind or have a heart attack!!!! Have fun and post some pics of your catches and the French Quarter. No, thinking more of posting pics, don't post any of the French Quarter or what you see. Just what you catch. Have fun. Be safe. And watch out for those Louisiana drivers! ?

In his book, Knowing Bass, The Scientific Approach to Catching More Fish, by Dr. Keith Jones of Berkley research department before he retired, his chapter 5 on Vision discusses what his scientific experiments noted regarding bass. Dr. Jones created a chart shown on page 181 of the "Strike Response to Color" and the results from his studies are illustrated below from highest to lowest: Silver/Black Back Black Dark Violet Light Blue (Carolina Blue) Green White Yellow Orange Red Dr. Jones expanded his experiments with lure shapes and sizes and attacks on Spinnerbait Blades and Skirts which gives us the following: Attacks on Spinnerbait Blades are 10% of total attacks. Attacks on Spinnerbait Skirts is 90% of the total attacks. I am sure you have seen Dr. Jones' studies and hopefully you have his book. Thanks for opening up this thread.

X3. The PT and then special workout routines for pitchers is what he needs to do after he is released from the doctor's care. Make sure he does what the doctor and PT guys say to do and do not rush the recovery. He can spend time reading and studying about how to play his position since baseball is a mind game. If you live near a college that has a baseball team please ask their trainer and weight coach what exercises they suggest your son do to get ready for next year. And also tell him that baseball is a year round sport. When you are not playing or during the off season that is the time for you to get stronger and work on your fundamentals. All the best to him for a speedy and successful recovery.

Agree. The "little schools" are very concerned about the split off of the Power 5 schools. They may want an agreement for each of the Power 5 conferences to allow their teams to play at least one smaller school each year and not pad their schedule with push overs to keep the alumni happy. But LSU played Texas early last year and it was a fantastic game.

Nice to see the Bills in it but I don't think they will survive next week's game. Will be a sensational battle between two excellent and future Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

Don't forget last year's LSU team was sensational, too. As long as Satan stays at Bamasux they will always be in the hunt for the national championship. He is a good talker to the parents and kids; a proven winner; and Bamasux has fantastic facilities. Plus the fact that between LSU and Bamasux they send many kids into the pros each year. But wait! There is backroom talk of having the Power 5 schools break off from the NCAA and start their own association of Power 5 schools, only. This will mean that Bamasux will no longer be able to play Mrs. Butterworth's Cooking School; The School for Unwanted Children; and the Graves Diggers University any more but have to replace them with other Power 5 schools. No schedule padding, although the FCS and Division II schools are upset at this situation as they want the $$$ to play the Power 5 schools. Then there is the talk of expanding the playoffs to 8 teams as right now only 4 teams get to play for the championship which means the other 126 teams play for fun and money. Some coaches have said to cut the regular season schedule and let all 130 teams play, like the NCAA basketball tournament, but I can't see 130 teams play at the end of the season. Some coches have hinted we need 32 teams in the playoffs but not the entire 130. Maybe 16 at the most, giving more schools the opportunity to win the championship and creating a lot of interest in the playoffs and lots of TV revenue for the schools. Now back to Satan. Some people hope he will jump back into the NFL but I don't see it. Urban Slumlord Myers will take his shot at being an NFL coach when the majority of college coaches that have tried to make this move have failed. Pete Carroll, Jim Harbaugh, and Jimmy Johnson have been successful. The other 24 have had mixed bags of success with the majority of them retiring or returning to college ball after they were fired or quit. Remember Satan leaving the NFL and going to Bamasux as he could not cut it in the big show. So look for Bamasux, Clepsom, the Ohio State Numb Nuts, the wonderful LSU Fighting Tigers, the Notre Dame Popes, the Texas Chokers, and the Oklahoma Also Rans to be favorites each year to win the National Championship. As I pen this reply on January 19, 2021, Las Vegas odds makers have already picked Bamasux to repeat as champs this coming season. Time will tell. Stay tuned. Changes are coming down the tracks.
