As Lethal says, store the rods standing straight up, not leaning agains the wall or door, for the best storage. You can make a simple rod holder by standing the rods on the floor and then having them stand against a dresser or desk, just as long as they are standing straight up and not allowing their tip to lean against the wall. And you can go to your local hardware store and purchase some pipe insulation tubing; attach tubing to wall; and use it to hold the rods against it. Only problem is attaching the tubing to the wall if family is against putting some nail holes in wall.

For a baitcaster: First, be sure the line runs through the reel's eye. Not kidding. If you miss the eye then you will have to respool. Second, keep line tight with your fingers. Third, run line through a wash cloth with a "wet spot" sprayed with KVD's Lure and Line Conditioner. Run all the line through the "wet spot" and don't forget to rewet the wash cloth as you spool. You can spray the line on the spool a few times as you spool. For a spinning reel: Same as above but have the line come off the bottom of the line's spool. Or have the line go on your spinning reel in a counter clockwise manner as the line comes off of the spinning reel in a clockwise manner. In both instances, do not over spool the line on the reels. And that's about it!

I have had a buzzbait hook and a crankbait hook slammed into my thumb and first finger, respectfully. Pushed buzzbait hook through thumb and cut barb and removed hook. Had to have surgery to remove the crankbait hook. Now I am very cognizant of the hooks and it is always safety first.

Saban is going to leave Alabama at the end of this season and join Dr. Mark Emmert at the University of Washington. Saban's wife and kids do not like Tuscaloosa and he and Dr. Emmert were great friends at LSU. Saban has enough money and he now wants a lower level program that he can make into a national power without all of the associated problems with the Bama fans. Believe it or not! ;D

I hope you spoke with him about his life and his accomplishments before he passed. We don't do this enough and all of the folklore and funny stories, etc. are lost forever. Sorry about his passing.

Rooster, I think it is a gimmick and it puts one more item on the reel that can brake. Denny Brauer, the pitching and flipping guru, does not use a flippin' switch in any of his DVDs or books. I don't use it and don't plan to use it. You can use a reel that has it if you want, but for my input, I would not purchase a reel with it. Now, with that said, let's read what the other guys have to say about it. A flippin' switch may be the best thing since slice bread was invented. ;D

In Virginia, going 80 + MPH is a felony. Just like if you murdered someone. My wife told me this is what the instructor told the class when she attended a Virginia Safe Driving Class to have a small speeding ticket removed from her record a few years ago.

Sorry to hear about your adventure but you now have the fall and winter to heal and get ready for the spring. I sprained my ankles playing high school basketall so many time that my ankles are very loose now and I have to be very careful not to twist them. Along with two damaged knees I have to be extra careful when fishing in the boat. As they say in dog obediance school...heal! ;D

On Tuesday of this week and then on Wedneday and Thursday (September 23, 24 and 25) I drove on I-95 and I-64 plus the Chippenham Parkway and had never seen so many State Police on the roads for a week that was not the last week of the month. So I asked a State Police friend why there were so many troopers out on the road and he told me the Academy just had a graduation. So you all be careful out there as if Virginia is like other states the new troopers are on patrol, applying their newly learned skills. As for me, I am very glad to have them on the highways and by-ways trying to bring some safety to the most dangerous place in the United States: an interstate highway.

And don't forget that you can fish the drop-shot rig from shore. I love it and caught two six-pound ladies in a row out of a friend's pond. So put that rod to work for you, now!
