  1. Please don't ever post a pic like that again. I'll never be the same! LOL
  2. Steaks, ribs, pork chops, or anything cooked over an open flame. Especially if it's got Jack Daniels grilling sauce. That would be American!
  3. Bagley's Original Deep Diver and Rapala DT16, though it's a little flat sided. Rule of thumb: The fatter the crankbait, the better deflection off cover like stumps, brush, and rocks.
  4. Acrylic and latex are the same often called "acrylic latex". The lures above were all done with Createx. Eric, the above foil is a Wee R. Pretty small crank for bass. Wood baits are less likely to lose action with multiple coats. If you are planning on using glitter it usually takes two coats atleast to get a smooth finish. And ofcourse, using a drying wheel is a must with multiple layers to level the epoxy out. And again those Rogues catch fish too, especially the chartuese rootbeer. I still had to add suspend strips to get them to sink slowly. I'm not saying that you won't kill some of the action on a specific lure. Especially a small one. A larger wooden crankbait can handle several coats and even tule underneath the foil, without hurting the action. This lure was made by John Mills(former member "Whittler").I gave it the foil and paint. You should dig up some of his old post.
  5. I think I've used almost all of the above mentioned and they all work great. I wouldn't limit myself to 10" ribbon tails. Don't be scared to go with a 12". Also you should try different tail types. Here are a list I use: 10" Gambler Ribbon Tail.I go to a ribbon tail when I putting a hop to my presentation. 11" Mister Twister Phenom or 12"BPS Squirmin' Worm. The smaller C-Tail will give you action with the slowest of presentations. Awesome worm when it gets hot and I need to slow down out in deep water. 10" Lucky Strike Original Ringer. Alot like a ribbon tail but the ribs give it a slower fall. 10" Lucky Strike Baby Huey. A big paddle tail worm. It's bouyancy causes it to stand up nose down and it's another great for slow presentations out in deep water.

Wouldn't want to carry that in my pocket. Talk about an accidental shooting!
  7. Could we expand this topic? We all have our favorites, but what makes them your favorite? Outside of results. What feature do you look for? What feature do you think makes your favorite spinnerbait a fish magnet? Here's my thoughts on why I like an Accent : 1. Extra sharp hook 2. Lightwire 3. Round rubber skirt (awesome fluttering action) 4. Fluted blades 5. I can get any blade combo and almost any size from 1/4-1 oz. Now, Accent spinnerbaits aren't very tough. It's the price I pay for the results I get. Most of them are only good for one day of fishing (pending on the activity), which would turn alot of people off.
  8. Lack of smallmouth? ;D Welcome! You got plenty of neighbors here!

Catt, great post! Those grey hairs count for something huh? I'm not old school but I've been schooled by the old! I started out fishing using strictly nothing but a t-rig worm in some deep ponds and a small river near where I grew up. I would subjest anybody who wants to learn how to fish a jig, learn how to catch fish with a t-rig first.

The football head was designed for dragging. The football shaped head helps to not fall on it's side. But I have found it to be a good stroking jig. Maybe the question is: where or what is it not meant for? Grass. Bullet type heads will come threw most types of cover cleaner than the wider headed football jig.
  11. X3, I use amber lenses as well. Yet, I read an article recently that said green lenses were best for sight fishing. But I don't sight fish.
  12. No need to strip old topcoats just scuff them with a fingernail file(the padded kind). As for 2 layers of Devcon, it doesn't matter on most cranks. I've used up to 4 coats, for foil jobs, doesn't seem to bother the fish. I would atleast recommend a cheap single action airbrush and you get a can of airbrush propellant for starting. Acrylic paints work fine and are easy to clean up, as long as you use an epoxy topcoat. Laquers and enamels are fun to look at but don't hold up when it comes to banging em' on rocks. Here are some lures I did when I first started a few years back wiyth a cheap single action Badger 200: And here is a foil job with four coats of Devcon, it's a fish catcher!
  13. Yup, I'd stay away from that one. There's to many good deals on leftover 2007 boats that have full warranty and they're brand new. I'll probally get flamed for this but I'm gonna say it. Rangers are over-rated. To many good boats out there for less $$. JMO

Really, I normally look to a different lure when I look for a reaction strike. BUT...I have done good by using a heavier jig like 3/4 oz. for a faster fall rate trailed with a chunk that has alot of action and I would be hopping it high or stroking(same thing). Note, make sure it falls on atleast a semi-slack line and watch your line like a hawk. The other way would be to swim it or rip it through cover or grass (no need to use a heavier jig unless you need to get it deeper).

Wow..Steve, I suprised to hear the term "stroking" from a guy up north! Cool! I believe the best big fish presentation for jigs is to drag it slowly on the bottom. It is the most natural craw presentation there is. Think about it, crawfish are bottom dwellers who really like to move slow and easy. I've fooled alot of nice fish this way. But then when you throw grass in the picture, you may need to do something to alert a bass of the jig's presence. Then, when fishing offshore, deeper water bass may not be relating to the bottom. That's when hopping or stroking may be the key presentation. I almost always start out the morning with a very slow, bottom dragging presentation, regardless the structure or cover I'm fishing. Then if adjustments need to be made, I make em'. Clues like when a fish nails it on that initial fall may tell me to start hopping it. Either way if I'm not getting bit, it's time to change the presentation. CJ
  20. Now that's cool.....2 cool!

If you had the chance to be sponsored by a lure company that you don't really like or use their lures, would you? What if their products were a gimmick? Another question, how many of you guys seek sponsorship or are just waiting for sponsorship to find you? CJ
  22. First off...Welcome to the forums! So, what lake you fishing? CJ
  23. I agree with Fluke. Hotspots failed to include alot of important detail for my home lakes. But, your right. I wasn't able to find any other maps for Table Rock either.
