I like longer rods, so my vote is for the 734c

When the Fury first came out, i called and asked for some info, the 734 and 735 have a bit more of a faster tip than the other "fast rods," these were designed to be jig/frog rods. Ive used the 703 and 704 and they are good for moving baits. In regards to the 3 vs 4 power, the 3 is a medium in my book. I would not throw a 1/2oz spinnerbait on my 703. Its not that its too heavy, it just gets bogged down when retrieving them. It can handle 1/4 and 3/8 perfectly fine however.

I bought a Lew's Custom SLP and I figured I'd just upgrade it here and there over this season to see what works and what doesn't.

So I want to stop (probably just slow down) on reel purchases, I figure I'll just start upgrading my reels (ie spools or bearings) I've got a 2 sets of questions: 1) Can someone link me to a good overall thread about upgrades? 2) Are most reels worth the upgrading? I'm sure bearings are mostly worth it, but what about upgrading a spool? Thanks

I use a Dobyn's m/f with 30lb braid on a Lew's BB1. I've found that the 90 is tad small, get lost in the water and has a tendency to roll. Meanwhile the 130 is just a bit bigger than I need fishing my local ponds. I heard that they are making a 110 size. My philosophy on topwaters is simply black or white, or in whopperplopper colors: Loon and Bone.

I tie all my flipping jigs to a dredge brush jig head from Siebert. I like them very much.

Either a homemade black and blue or black and chartreuse jig.

I was wondering the same, I'm curious to what the diameter is like in comparison. And do you mean the P-Line Tactical? In the black and white box?

I highly recommend it as a introductory jig set up. Good reel, decent rod. Often hard to find a good fast action rod on a combo. I bought one for my friend for his bday and I used it one day on the lake, solid combo.

I'm very interested in feathering my own trebles and adding a bit of hair to my jigs, can't wait to see what you've been working on. Do you get the skirt to stand up by just pulling it to be a bit shorter?

IMO, a St Croix moderate fast is a hair slower than a generic fast, its meant for moving baits.

I took one out the other day and threw it on my Savvy 704c. I had about 10 fish on the line, and lost about 8 of them.... All within 10 feet of the shoreline. I didn't think my hookup ratio would be so horrible on a single hook swimbait haha

I'd just go buy a Lew's Mach I combo tbh. But you would be happy with that reel, the TProG is great. In regards to the rod choice, if you want a shorter rod, go with the one youre looking at. 7 feet is right around where I like my rods, so I don't see why you couldn't just get the spinnerbait mojo bass rod.

What kind of lures do you use most often? If you're going to expand to casting setups, you may consider relegating that spinning setup to line line and finesse techniques. Also an important question is if you primarily fish from a boat or the shore?

It's still going to have a fast tip. If you want a faster tip for your cranks (as opposed to a moderate fast) then it'll do ya just fine. Here is a comparison of a 703c and Champion 684cb. As you can see the bends are much different. I love this 684cb for squarebills and shallow cranks, so I would recommend the 705cb over the 703. For some reason, the picture is upside down, but you can still see the difference

Just bought a Lew's Custom SLP for flipping and some P-Line Tactical in #17. I am looking to trade my older DX745c and get a new DX743/4 as a replacement.

Either grab a 734c, it's very versatile as Columbia Craw said above, or a 735c. If you fish frogs or jigs, you'll love the 735c.

The 734 sounds like the rod you need. I've got a Savvy 704 and it's too heavy for 1/8. If you are looking for a pitching rod, go with the 734, the taper is a bit faster, and the added length will help you with pitching and setting the hook.

I'm getting a new flipping reel and I might buy some in 17# to try out.
