  1. So I've ordered some jig heads from Siebert and some tools off amazon, just need to get the skirts. I've heard good things about skirts unlimited and I've been browsing their wares, it's a tad bit overwhelming honestly. My chief concern and question is how many strands are on their skirts? Do I use one band of skirts per jig? Two per jig? Maybe split two so I can mix the colors?
  2. I was intending to buy a Lew's magnesium but I lost my job so it's a bit bare now. But previously I had a lew's SuperDuty 8:1 on it.
  3. It's the older one, i've had it for 2-3 years now. It's light. I don't know the weight exactly, but it's a lot lighter than the fury or the veritas rod in my arsenal. 7'4" is just about right for me, I'm about 6'1". I'm as comfortable with my 6'8" champion as I am with my 8' champion.
  4. Nah, I use whatever. Jk I'm a sellout fan boy to Dobyns and Lew's. But hey, I'll admit it. I've used a couple rods here and there, SC, Loomis, Abus, Lew's, TFO, Fenwick, just like Dobyns and their stuff. For reels though, its a different story, I've had awful experiences with Quantum, low end Shimano, and Abu (funny right?), never had a single problem with a Lew's reel (that wasn't my fault). I also work in the fishing retail industry, so I see a lot more and hear from a lot of customers and that influences most of what I will say on this forum.
  5. The DX 795flip is rated 1/4-1 1/4oz. I'd trust Dobyn's on this. In regards to the power rating, they have lowered their flipping rods power wise, I've never used a DX flip series, but my DX745c is a "mag heavy" it just feels like a regular heavy to me.
  6. Tom and I are usually on the same page with this. I wouldn't want a softer rod for my moving bait, but there are people out there who do. The 734c is ideal in my eyes, as I like a longer rod. If you want shorter, go with the 704. I've been using a ss703c and it's a bit light.
  7. They are always great to call, it's pretty cool when Gary answers the phone. I agree with that. As for the Mojo Muskie, I've had one, and my buddy as had a few, and they are rare to survive a strike on a figure-8. The Premier has lasted me 2 years now. I have no idea what it is, since they're both SCII blanks, and it looks like the only difference is in the cork handle. I should also add that the mojos were 8' MHs, and the Premier is an 8'6" MH
  8. Ive only got spinning rods from Fenwick, and they seem perfectly fine rating wise. Dobyns does run a bit light, but check out the two swimbait rods on their website. The new 806sb is prettttty cool. Now I haven't fished the new MOJO bass rods, but I have heard good things, however, if their swimbait rod is anything like their MOJO muskie rods, I'd stay away.
  9. So what's your favorite jig color for muddy and stained water? GO! I like black and chartreuse or junebug for the most part.
  10. Also looking to tie my own. I know of boss and fishingskirts, anywhere else?
  11. I use it to hang things and for general stuff around the house lol
  12. That SBR is a nice addition. I'd like to see what people think of the spinning rods, the savvys weren't that great.
  13. I'm eager to hear about it, but I mean, what about Invizx? That's my go to finesse line. Why make a finesse line when you've got Invizx in your line up?
  14. It's what I've got on my frogging set up. It's an A+ reel, and I'm excited to try the new wide-spool one.
  15. I have a Dobyn's Extreme for my jigs, it's a heavy extra fast. I like the extra fast as it helps the hook penetrate past the skirt and trailer better than just a fast action.
  16. As most have said, the Veritas is more stiff than what it's rated, and it is a pretty heavy rod, in physical weight. We get a few Ducketts returned due to the guides chipping and grooving, so I'd shy away from the Ducketts if you plan on using lighter fluoro or braid.
  17. I use all three. I use Invizx for my spinning gear and my jerkbaits. Abraxas in 15 for flipping. Red Label for everything else.
  18. I'd look around for the best deal. I've heard great things about both and I can attest to the quality of the Supreme XT having had one for 4+ years.
  19. The dual braking system is a boon to a beginner. If you're getting a BB1 for less than the price of an MB, I'd go with the BB1 lol
  20. I've got a TFO M/F that I use for topwaters, it's on the lighter side of medium IMO.
  21. I'll probably pick up a Lite G for jigging if I get some good xmas money. Or one of the new Custom SLPs.
  22. It's a 2500FE. I've got a Pflueger Supreme XT and an older model Lew's, I'll have to see how it compares next season.
  23. Marked down at my local F&S, added my employee discount and a scorecard coupon and grabbed one for $44. Didn't really need another spinning reel but I'll toss it on my new crappie rod. Any of y'all own one? How do you like it, compared to a Fuego or Purist?
  24. I rarely fish traps, but my buddy uses a glass Dobyn's for traps, it's a MH/F I think? @tbone1993 I do however fish squarebills often, I use a Dobyn's Champion D685cb, it's a MH/MF, the shorter Dobyn's MFs have a been quicker action than a traditional moderate fast.
