  1. Thanks for the info!!! BTW, I have read the manual but I was real disappointed. It tells you about the depth finder and it goes through the settings but does not tell you how to read one. I was hoping it would have pictures of different scenarios telling you what things are. Without that explanation I'm kinda lost.
  2. Guys, I'm kinda new to bass fishing. I mostly fish the 8 acre pond behind the house. The depth ranges from 3 to 13 ft. When trolling around on the jon boat I always see a thick green band across the top of the water on the depth finder. I also see suspended oval shapes not arches. I assume the ovals are bass and the reason they are not arches is because I'm going slow. -Is it true that the oval suspended things are fish even though they are not arches (like fish usually look on depth finders)? -What is the green band at the top? What is the yellow band under the green? My depth finder is mounted to the bottom of the trolling motor which is only about 1.5' from the top of the water. The green band goes down to about 3 feet depth and the yellow band is right below the green band...not sure what either are. -What do the very thin red vertical line represent? Thanks for the help!
  3. Oh...ok. I wish we had a schematic of exactly where this artery is so I'll know where to cut. Any ideas?
  4. Since I fish mostly from my back yard for 30 minutes at a time, I don't usually catch enough to warrant a cooler full of ice. I usually catch one and filet it, throw it in the freezer and call it a night. I may go back out the next evening and do the same if I catch something or I may not even go the next evening. For me having a cooler with ice all the time wouldn't make much sense. Letting them bleed out seems like it would take a little time. Usually mine go from a hook to the filet board and I don't have the time to let them bleed out. Since I usually just fish for 30 min at a time (but very often) I need a quick way to kill them. Maybe I'll try to wack them in the head harder than I've tried before.
  5. I'm surprised more people here don't recommend Ducketts. I love them. I have about 7 Ducketts and love every one of them. If I had 1 complaint it would be that they do not have the specs (line weight & lure size) on the rod.
  6. On my small pond they ussually don't make it to a cooler before they are fileted. Most of the time I fish from my back yard and filet them right when I catch them. I didn't know if popiong them on the head or something would kill them without torturing them.
  7. If I'm not releasing the bass (or other kinds of fish) and about to clean them, what is the quickest and most humane way to kill the fish. I mostly filet them but kinda feel bad doing that when they are still alive. What is the best/easiest way to just suddenly kill them before I filet them?
  8. The phone could automatically record weather and location thus taking some of the work out of journal entering!
  9. I live in SC and moved to a house with an 8 acre pond. This past spring when we moved in the crappie were biting like crazy. I've been bass fishing ever since. I was thinking about trying to do some winter crappie fishing. In the spring we used minnows. What is best to use in the winter when crappie fishing? Minnows like in the spring? Is it easy to catch them in the winter? Thanks guys!
  10. I own 7 Ducketts....I absolutely love them. I truly believe they are the best bang for the buck of all the rods. I can't believe more people here don't use them. Super light, super accurate and very sensitive!
  11. Would it be a pro for FLouro?
  12. I thought it was the other way around...no?
  13. Isn't that what I want...ultralight? I'm thinking about using 4-6 lb test. Thanks!
  14. Would a Shimano Sprirex FG 1000 work???
  15. I was top water fishing the other day and a Blue Herring flew right up to my lure and tried to take it and fly away. We literally played tug of war for a good 10 seconds. Then it tried to spit it out of it's mouth but it was hooked on the trebbles. It finally shook it loose. I'm sure it injured it's tongue. That was a trip! Has anyone else caught anything weird like that while trying to fish???
  16. I know! Mods I meant to put this in the rods, reels, and line section of the forum....can you move it please? Thanks!
  17. Would a Ducket 7' med-lt spinning rod work? Can you suggest a reel for less than $100? Thanks!!!
  18. I'm trying to use one of these... Tiny Minnow it's only like 3/32 oz. My question is how do I cast it far out? I was using a 6'-6" MH rod with 10# test on a Curado 200E7. I can't get it to go out more than a few feet. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks!
  19. Guys post all of the black Friday deals here. Like this... removed They have the Curado 50E for $99!!!
  20. So if I catch a few fish in the pond in my back yard and immediately put them in the refrigerator in my garage I could clean them the next day in the afternoon then put the meat back in the refrigerator? Does everyone agree that would be fine? Thanks for all the help guys!
  21. I though the nasties really slow down in a cooler full of ice or the refrigerator making it such that you can wait to clean them the next day. I could be wrong though.

  23. Guys, there are times when I want to keep and clean a fish (Bass, Bream, Catfish, etc) but I dont have time at the moment to clean it. If I put it/them in a cooler with ice or a refrigerator, how long can they stay there until I have to clean them? Thanks!
  24. Hey guys....got a quick question. Will DHEC or DNR come test my 8 acre pond's water and make recomendations to improve the Bass and other gamefish population? I've heard some state agency will come test the water but not sure if it's DHEC or DNR. A neighbor told me one of them came years ago and tested the water and said the pond water was fine and it was over populated with fish. Best of all the evaluation was free according to my neighbor. I'd like to get them to redo the test but he can't remember what agency did the test. My goal is to improve the bass habitat. Any ideas who to call? Thanks for the advise guys!
  25. Great information! Thanks alot! I'm surpised you use such heavy sinkers....an 8 oz egg is huge!
