  1. Fish for the thrill........the primal competition between man and nature, to make that perfect cast to the perfect spot...... to feel the thump of that kicker fish, to see the new personal best break the water for the first time, to be able to grab it by the lip and show it a little sunlight for the first time. It goes deeper, this manly ritual of fishing. It brings us back to the roots of our hunter-gatherer ancestors. It is one thing to enjoy the sport, yet another to feel the pride that belongs to the capture of a wild animal simply by using ones wit and skill, to bring back this trophy to the tribe. Either to eat for survival, or by photo to the message board. we fish to feel the community, not around the stoned fire of 1000s of years ago, but to feel the bond and beauty of nature, yes, but also your best friend, Father, or son. to revel and jeer, to laugh and cry, and to simply be.......... this is why we fish.
  2. where in Arkansas? Steel mill or nuke plant? (just guessing here)
  3. all the above posts cover it.
  4. Fairly? Heck, then I am doing good!!!!!
  5. Only time I get annoyed is Jig fishing and sunglasses there are probably 20+ pages of results to a search of jig info on this site and most of it is pure gold. The past conversations about jigs will never be replicated and a person wanting to know about jigs owes it to themselves to seek that info out. Sunglasses, everything that can be covered already has been. I know I have posted info on every lens color, % of light transfer, recommended activities for each lens color ect ect. its all there if a guy wants to find it. and Speed I KNOW I am on a whole other level of fishing........and its about 20 levels UNDER yours!!!
  6. I myself had responded "search" but still try to answer the question. The reason I respond search is at one time I have answered a question with a LONG response and it is simply too much to type, or have seen an answer by, Catt, WRB, Speedbead, ect ect that was an EXCELLENT answer and if they use the search function they will find the BEST answer for them. using the search function is pretty easy, type in your query into the box and up comes the results. If you can narrow it down to the forum "general", "tackle", "baitmaking" you can go to that subforum and search just that forum. Think of the search box as a google for message boards. I used google and message board search boxes MANY MANY times when I first started. I really enjoyed reading all the old threads and think I am a better fisherman because of it. You can never be too informed.
  7. it will be fine. I ran 10# tatsu on a Stradic FJ2500 last year now I just spooled up 8# tatsu on a ci41000 DO NOT overfill it and use plenty of line conditioner.
  8. should be perfect. now as far as spooling up now: since they are the exact diameter I would say use the 00mod method. His method is great when you have near or exact line diameters of both lines. spool up your entire reel with the trilene........ 1tie a heavy weight and 2 make the longest cast you can. 3. walk out to your casted weight. you have now doubled your cast length round to the nearest 10yd mark 4. tie up your tatsu and spool up, knowing you have 2 cast lengths of top shot or my way (takes two reels) 1 measure out tatsu amount you want to use 2 wind that on the spool 3 top off with cheap mono until reel is full 4 transfer to the reel you want to use, (mono is now on bottom, tatsu on top) either method will work, beauty of either is you know exactly how much line you have on, so when you get low you strip off to the joining knot and spool up with new top shot, knowing exactly how much line you just used.
  9. I use tatsu and I use 65 yards per reel so I get 3 reels of 1 spool. I use 2 size of backings, 12# and 20# both come off a 1200 yard spool of BPS mono. I use the 12# for my 10, 12 backings and 20# for 15, 20, 25 backings. Does it matter, I don't think so. I once used 20# for 10#tatsu on a core 50. I use the blood knot to join the two lines. the point of backing is to use the cheapest stuff you can find........ cause lets face it, if a fish has gotten you to the joining knot you are screwed anyway, lol
  10. great point Speedbead a good pair of croakies or C-wires solves that too IMO. I have always been tough on sunglasses but I never had an issue with my Costas until I knocked them off my truck bed. I have noticed I either have them on, or hanging from my neck not to much can go wrong.
  11. so Coryn, does that mean you are going to change your sig line.......... I mean we wouldn't want to offend anyone with that type of seductive talk I KID, I KID.
  12. Let me be bold (as always) If you fish, you are a friend of mine! I love the debate and could go on for days......... but the racebaiting and womans rights junk is just nonsense and mythical in context for THIS topic. It exist, but not here, so dont try to make it here. Like I said, if you fish you are a friend of mine, and I bet 99% of the people of this board hold that same feeling. It aint about race, gender, creed, religion or anything else, its about fishing, SO LETS FREAKING FISH! YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. that's a handsome looking trolling motor.
  14. Brian Needham posted a topic in Everything Else
yeah! First time I have ever hit 1000 post on any message board.
  15. it varies from each manufacture, but generally pretty close. I know on my dobyns they are true to form and the sweet spot is the middle. some manufactures fish light, some heavy, I have no experience with all star though.
  16. I would buy duplicates if I really liked a rod...... like a jig rod or crank rod, but they would be rigged up on deck with the rest, I wouldn't buy a rod just to have in the closet. I haven't reached the point where I have started buying duplicates yet though
  17. sad I cant remember myself, as I use all owner. IIRC, all my packs say cutting point, will look tomorrow.
  18. why does everything have to be about race and offending a woman with yall? Zara Spook, racist? LMAO you got to be kidding me the Mandingo racist? Lmao, ever thought there was a porn actor with that stage name? Beaver offend you? get over it. I never ONCE gave the name beaver a second thought UNTIL someone said " the sweet beaver is a great bait, so about the name if it offends you." ONLY THEN did it click. Maybe, just maybe the only reason you are "offended" is you think in those terms in life? Perhaps if people's mind wasn't stuck in the gutter you wouldn't think in such terms....... it's fishing, so fish! If you want to be offended to the point where your adult mind is about to collapse then join a therapy group.
  19. I admit I haven't paid attention to it in a whiel but I could swear I have cutting points on a normal EWG Trig hook, No?
  20. Costa's 580 GLASS lens is where its at. I will not wear anything else until proven otherwise. glass is SO SO much better than polycarbon lens. You can really tell the difference. Live life in HD, wear Costa Del Mar!
  21. I have to differ here....... I have seen it before too. always baffled me, until I saw it at the golf course and the water was clear enough to see the 6 inch bass making the V. I do however notice when they are swimming like this they are VERY skittish.
  22. which is why they are so hard to find! (yes, I continued the pun)
  23. how about trout swimbaits for the bass? just a thought ....
