  1. I like most of Berkley's stuff, but Fireline isn't too impressive, at least IMO.
  2. Yeah, my Presidents have always been good to me.
  3. I have it on a couple reels, for the price I like it.
  4. TW still has Falcon Wendlandt rods on sale at $99 shipped, a deal so good I bought three. That would leave you good money for a nice reel.
  5. Lews TP would be my choice too.
  6. I was in a similar situation, went with a Lew's TP, great reel, I like it a lot. I just ordered a Falcon Wendlandt 6'10" Finese Jig Rod to go with mine, worth consideration at $99 shipped from TW. Novice talking, probably wise not to take my advice too seriously.
  7. Much better, well done Jim! I think that's about the size of the state record here.
  8. I'll bump this one up. Nothing too fancy here.
  9. Maybe not, but you should really consider it. The Lews TP can be found in your price range, and it's a hell of a reel.
  10. I'd go with the Lew's TP. Pflueger Patriarchs are pretty easy to find in the $120 range, that's not a bad option either.
  11. Nice write up. I recently bought a 6'6 All Purpose, and 7" Med Crank model, and I may pick up one of the two you've reviewed, I really like these rods.
  12. I just picked up Tourny Pro, outstanding reel. Early, but I think it has an edge over my Patriarch and Revo SX, both of which I like very well. I don't have any experience with the smoke, I had a lemon Quantum spinning reel a while back, just haven't gotten back to Quantums since.
  13. Actually I'm pretty new to casting reels/rods, my Falcon wendlandt and Falcon Original (both MH 6'6 all purpose) are really the only ones I've had a lot of experience with, so my opinion probably won't help much. They do seem heavier than my MH Berkley Lightning Rod for what it's worth.
  14. That's the Falcon Clark Wendlandt rod you're speaking of, and they are great rods, just Caras with a split foam handle. I know the OP wants a full handle, and I too prefer a full handle, but I'd consider saving nearly $100 over a regular Cara and going with the Wendlandt. I bought one a couple weeks ago and like it so much I just went ahead and bought another yesterday while TW still has them on sale, amazing value.
  15. I fish with my Father pretty regularly, he almost always uses minnows, I almost always use artificial. Through most of this year, we would average about the same number of bass, but this Fall he's been catching a good bit more than me. Live bait is very good if you like fishing that way.
  16. I'll still be at it this winter.
  17. Thanks, it is an up and down season, I'm sure it'll pick up again. I'll look to use some of the tactics mentioned here. FYI I got skunked again today.
  18. Well at least you've been hot and cold, it's been all cold for me lately.
  19. For the money I do like Berkley rods, but I'd really consider spending just a little more and picking up a Falcon Wendlant from *** which has them on sale for $100, awesome rod for that price.
  20. I don't have a worm rod to compare it to, I'd call it stiff, it's definately got some backbone.
  21. I bought a 6'6 all purpose MH Wendlant a couple weeks ago from ***, which currently has them on sale at $100. I like the rod very well, it would probably work fine for what you wish to do. The tip is fast, but cranks seem to work well with it. Yes, they are Caras, great rod for the money.
  22. I had a Quantum spinning reel a few years back that was problematic as well, I don't think I'll try another Quantum anytime soon. Anyway, I went ahead and bought a Revo SX, and teamed it up with a Falcon Wendlandt rod, should be here pretty soon. I'm gonna buy a Pflueger Patriarch as well, found a pretty nice price on one, and all my Pfluegers have been good to me. I may look to add a Speed Spool and a Curado down the line somewhere. Thanks again everyone.
