Broke bass fisherman

Hello all, I have been fishing for as long as I can remember and am mostly self taught. I typically fish cranks, buzz baits, poppers, etc. I know that I need to move into modern times and start to learn more techniques/ broaden my lure choices. What do you all recommend I start to look into? I am thinking soft plastics as I am on a tight budget and fish mostly from shore on the new river. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Nitro, I've taken her out with me a few times without actually giving her a hook ( she cast her princess float) and told her when she stopped hitting me with the float we would upgrade to hooks. Looks like its time. Hopefully she will get the bug cause I need a fishing partner.

Went out on Wednesday, water temp was running around 77. Water was mostly clear with patches of murky water around higher traffic areas. Fish seemed to be consistently around 12 to 20 feet (I was out midday)

Yep I am about 20 minutes from claytor lake. In southwest Virginia.

Hello all My name is Daryl. Been fishing for as long as I can remember. Just recently moved to Virginia and found this site as I was looking for information about the local scene. Grew up fishing rivers and lakes and catching bass hoping to stay in touch with my inner fisher person. Love to fish and this seems like a very active community of fishermen and women. Glad to be a part of it.

New to the Christiansburg Va area and I am looking for room in a boat and any pointers about fish habits in the area. Been out a couple of times to the New without much avail (rain and higher waters have complicated bank fishing) could also be the poor mans tackle I am carrying. Hopefully I can find a partner to fish with before the weather gets to much colder. Glad I found the forum and great fishing to all of you.
