Smartphones
I use my IPhone for everything. It's my camera when I fish, I keep my fishing logs on here, I am on this forum whenever I want to be through my phone. I personally like smart phones because it allows me to be productive in dead times. I also use the internet and maps built in to find ponds and other water sources that I can fish... And I can also play games if I get stuck on the bank with no action on the rod... Lol Summary is they are great if you can utilize them, if not then a regular phone should be what you get IMHO.

I Just Can't Beat A Nightcrawler
I would suggest going with artificials that mimic the nightcrawlers. If you are catching on nightcrawlers but not cranks and such, try some of the power worms suggested above or any other worm that mimics the action of your nightcrawlers and don't get frustrated, it's called fishing not catching.

St. Croix Bargain Room
Its the same for FW. No length, action, or ratings. It appears you have to know what you want to buy before going there. . Which does me no good as I have no clue what their brands are.

Taking The Little One Out Tomorrow
So we went out today an it was rough. Between the heat an the storm system rolling in we did not catch much, and these are in places that are normally drowning in bluegills. She managed to get 2 (her first two ever) and she had a blast. We were out for about 4 hours and she was still wanted to stay out. Might have a life long fishing buddy. She even lipped the first one!

Are Bass Not Going To Be Active Midday In 100 Degree Weather (Small Pond)?
I've been having luck dropping senkos, and other weightless plastics on top of their heads. They will strike but only if I put it on top of them. That said I haven't had luck with spinners, frogs, or anything that I can't literally put on top of them. Bite is hard but I did manage 8 in the midday sun a couple days ago.

You Guys Ever Have Days Where You Fish For 2-4 Hours Without A Bite?
Don't fret. I have the same experience, I fish from bank on a river and I have limited access so it really is hit or miss (missing more than hitting). Find a pattern and learn the subtleties in it. I would also suggest a fishing diary, where you where, what the weather was, how the water was and what you threw. That will help you start to understand what the fish want and how they act under the conditions.
