  1. Well it's getting close to winter so you won't miss anything. It's good that you got that wrist checked out too. Hope it recover well so you'll be back fishing by Pre-Spawn.
  2. I'm not after quantity, I like quality. I have caught around near the 250 mark with 6 of them being 10lb+.
  3. It still doesn't matter, as light as it sound it still heavier for certain people that shouldn't be casting it 5-6hour. I'm only recommending him to switch to a shorter and lighter action rod. My reason of doing so is because I have done that long long ago. I like the fact that longer rod gives more distance and a med/heavy rod will give the backbone to hold up a big bass but it isn't worth it when you are cranking pass 3hour. I switched back to my older shorter medium power rod and my wrist wasn't hurting anymore.
  4. You know what the pro's say. Don't change your style, just find a location that works for your style and fish. You will be more successful. Trying out new technique isn't a bad thing too, but do what works best for you.
  5. Your rod might be too long and heavy for you. Try using a shorter and lighter rod when you are casting a lot and long hours. Something of a 6'6" and med power. The only time you should use a 7'3" and heavy is to jig/pig or frog through thick cover. I doubt it's your Citica reel.
  6. I haven't tried it, but I think this might be a good technique. Let me know if anyone has done it and have a good success on it.
  7. Reel slower and also pause. Allow the bass to observe it like a injure or slow easy target shad. LMB are not like striper that chase their fish. They are ambush predator fish that exert a big energy to hit or swallow a prey.
  8. First off, please describe your rod and reel. They can be a lot of help. Base on what you say, I can only give this advice. Your rod and reel maybe too heavy. Your rod might not be balance.
  9. The Pro's fish to win. I fish to get away from it all and give myself my time and my space. So I have to say, "No!" I would not make a job out of something I love and appreciate so much. I do appreciate the Pro's, they're the one that are actually teaching us the tips to fishing better.
  10. Here's my best best advice for you when you are throwing everything in the tackle box and nothing is working for you. Come back next time with some live shiner and cast it out. Catch one that has a big belly and kill it. Catch a male please, and leave the female alone. I know, it's wrong but it's only one. Gut it open and check what it is normally eating in the pond. Find something similar in that type of lure and slowly finest or reel if it's a spinner/swim/crank bait.
  11. Crankbaits, either deep diver or lipless. Why? It covers a lot of water fast. This fall season, Bass are migrating and you need to know where they are at. When you do find them, you can switch it up to jig/pig.
  12. Yes you can, but it all depend on the action of the rod. Cranking is better with a moderate tip action. Plastic usually use fast tip action.
  13. I don't know what he is fishing but I'm with you on this. I doubt a bass will bent a spool! I'm sure the rod will break before your reel. If and only if your reel break before your rod, you need to buy a better quality reel. LOL!
  14. People tape the spool first because they don't want the line to roll around. If you are using mono to fill the lower portion of the spool so you don't have to waste expensive line, then your doing it correctly. Just tape it after you double-Uni or Albright. Taping also prevent further backlash problem too. Just take your heaviest lure and cast it out in wind direction and pull out an extra 10-15feet and tape.
  15. You're doing great BTW. You should try finest style also. Use a worm/jig with trailer and walk it very very slow. Remember, the reason why you are fishing artificial lure is to always try to trick it to bite.
  16. Yes, they do learn pattern and it can become a habit, but I'm sure this is rare. If you take a Bass and put it in the 50gallon Tank and feed it. I'm betting it knows when you are coming to feed it. Even if you put a shad or feeder fish up high, it'll jump for it. It picked up a habit or pattern and will respond too. Just switch to a diffferent lure and you'll see a different outcome. Now as for how many pattern a Bass will remember, I don't know. If a Bass know how to migrate, i'm sure they can learn pattern or habit. They have to in order to survive in the habitat they live in. But the best thing about catching the bass is TRICKING IT to bite. This is the reason why you are fishing.
  17. The only thing I can tell you is that Bassproshop has a Stick lure retriever that is close to 20 feet length. But you're fishing from the shore and if it's somewhere way out there. You're on your own. They also sell lure retriever that has a chain with a rope. You can try that and hope it helps. I do own the stick because I use a boat. This stick saved me over a 100 time. Imagine how much that would have cost me.
  18. Observe him more, it isn't the switch to fly fishing. He only switched to fly fishing so that he can try out a new technique. If I fished in the same pond or Lake for 10 years, i would like to try something new too. If you didn't notice, he might have tried to master the lures and technique and where and when to fish that particular lure. You should do the same and you'll figure out a pattern and technique too. Remember, season, weather, forecast, temperature, clarity, day of time etc... changes the mood of the bass too. Using what type of lure works best and knowing where the bass are will help you fish successfully. Color also makes a difference in water clarity. Not so much in deep water fishing but shallow around 1-10feet.
  19. There are so many to choose from within that range of price. But if it was me, I would either go with these 2. Duckett rod or St. Croix rod.
  20. I get a couple of PVC pipe that is long enough and and put them inside. Just get a P.Marker and write what rod is what on the outside. I think this is great for carrying out of town too.
  21. Here's the cheapest tip you'll ever get. Hope this helps everyone. Good luck!
  22. WOW! That there is a trophy in your water. That would be a comparison to catching a 12+lb down here in the south. That was no easy task at all. Great catch!
  23. Jigging and Worm are great when the Sun is up and the wind is calm. I like to pitch Jig and Worm to tight/heavy cover or timbers. The best part is feeling the thump on your rod tip and you sweep/set your rod to set the hook. That there will make your heart jump by 10x.
  24. You went with Vanish did you. Should have gotten the more expensive Berkley Professional Grade Fluoro. Don't settle for cheap stuff if you don't want to lose your lure.
  25. Tom, You need to read what I write. If they didn't break any law, then quit crying! If they broke the law then just call the DNR. If the DNR is not doing anything about it because of resource, then just go fish at a private pond. What are you going to do, go threaten someone who's trying to fish to eat? The reason why he's fishing to eat is because he can't afford to buy it. That is exactly the point that you don't want to cross with these people. Unless you are willing to die for your Bass, I would let the DNR handle them. Anyway, I practice catch and release too Tom. Actually, I even kiss by bass and tell them to grow big. My son and I always do this. We fish in a small 100 acre lake too. We see people like this all the time too, but it's like I say to my son, "These people are only catching the little one that needs to be catch. Otherwise there will be too much little bass in the lake and the quality bass will disappear." How do you know if the bass in your lake is healthy? Check the color of it's scale, inside his mouth, and also see how fat they are. If you start catching at least 8 to 10 bass that are between 1-2lb in a day and they are hardly fed or fat. There isn't enough food source in the lake to support those Bass. It's time you catch and eat those 1-2lb or let people who needs to do it. Again, If they didn't break any law, then quit crying! If they broke the law then just call the DNR
