  4. A little report for the locals! Hit Glen Springs Lake this Saturday for a few hours. Caught 6 in 3 hours. All but one were between 2 & 4 lbs. Water temps were ranging from 70.1 to 72.6 degrees and about 3-4 ft visibility. Saw a lot of big girls on beds and a few beds that looked recently empty. Swim jig counted for a couple but frogs got the most. I had a couple hit & miss the frog so when that happened I tossed a drop shot on the bed next and was able to coax them into the boat Have pics on my phone, but at work so will post them when I get home.
  5. Once a month my cooking knives get sharpened on a oiled stone then finished off on a wet leather strap to get the edge as fine as possible. After every use they get 10 strokes per side on a sharpening steel.

  17. Different people are confident with different techniques. Im sure Aaron Martins might disagree with him.
  18. I was outside at work one day when I started talking to this beautiful girl from the pharmacy, but had to run back inside before I knew who she was. One afternoon I received a company email. She had looked me up so she could ask me out. Due our difference in age I turned her down (i was 37 she was 22). That weekend I had taken a fly fishing trip to the mountains but could only think about her. When I got back in town I emailed her. Thankfully she accepted and now, 4 years later, will be getting married in May. Best decision I ever made!
  19. The best advice was given to go to a local fly shop if you can. They will have combos for beginners around that you will be able to cast (and yes they will give you free quick lessons while doing so). Temple Fork Outfitters makes some quality rods. I still have a few of the "Lefty Kreh" series and fish them as much as my Loomis & Winstons. Their "Professional Series" are excellent rods for beginners and priced around $100-$115 i think. The Reddington Crosswater stated above is a good one for beginners as well. Orvis makes an economy line that gets positive reviews, I think they are called Clearwater series. A 5 weight would be the best size to get if you are targeting Brooks & Browns, however I would not chase salmon with one. Even a small salmon is strong enough to snap a 5wt. I would go no lower than 8wt for salmon. I was hooking into average size Sockeye this summer with my 8wt and felt undergunned on occasion. A good general rule when buying a combo is to spend 70% on the rod, 20% on the line, and 10% on the reel. Get the best rod you can afford as it make the most difference. Get a decent line because it does make a difference. Unless you are targeting salt water fish, trophy size fish, or large fish on light tippett, the reel is just holding line. Good luck!
  20. Lets see your favorite Meme's! Here is a couple I like the most.
