  1. I have caught 3 1/2 foot pike on 4 pound & 6 # braid They rarely pull loose if hooked in MEAT. Not jaw bone or tough gum stuff. BUT I keep all rods straight up & bent nicely. The tear outs are very rare. I am using 1 1/2" lures & original trebles.
  2. Guides do that service...........in case........... A reel dies or just acts up. Why calling way ahead is needed. He may be short on a fly setup you use.
  3. Constant twisting of spinning line is a nuisance. But I carry 2 rods And stop & remove the lure to unwind the line. Got smart long ago. I made up spinners That spin OPPOSITE to standard direction. I do not use a lot of spinners.
  4. I have found that braid can be a shorter UV life span. I find the always exposed thin strands can die much quicker than a thick piece of mono. So each spring I cut off 8'. Has stopped any breakoffs. I can see & feel the change to soft white strands. Still worth it, in cutting weeds if a fish burrows into them.
  5. If I do that. My guides get dirty. Will not cast as far. Lose the tournament !!
  6. Women have no idea how much fun we have on fishing trips.
  7. A ANGRY male carp can blister the thumb brake........EASILY in some current. Thumb brake smells just like cooking bacon. Another reason NOT to use a simple bait caster on bigger carp.
  8. So the lure at the tip will not hook anything else.
  9. All electric windows down to fish site ? Rain started. Oh no Mr. Bill. ?
  10. I always use a passenger or trunk door.
  11. Nothing beats a cork. Unless it goes POP. ?
  12. If I stayed single ? I would only need Friday night motel money. Look at all the extra money I have from being married.
  13. I have beached several small fishing boats when a squall appeared. Ok when surrounded by land & August water. BUUTT The time I was caught at the mouth to the ocean ? Dumb Luck & a rowboat with a 5 hp motor allowed me to go into the bay and just dig the anchor into the first grass island. Wind ? I laid flat on the grass for a while.
  14. Bingo scaleface. Pontoons are outstanding boats for incapacitated people. and children or pets. Thefish in my bay are not spooked by boats at all. Constant daytime traffic all weekend. I just realized the symbols in the lower right corner show up as notifications............... Why I am not left alone too often. Another Oh well.
  15. Captain Phil posted about his canoe being blown off of a boulder in windy conditions. Fellow boater was more experienced & got to the boat NAKED . Training is always most important to saving lives.
  16. Why can I not see any replies ? What button did i do wrong ? Thank you
  17. A USCG safety course for kayakers, canoers and other lone ranger types is DEFINATELY in order. Ever use a real anchor in windy conditions ? Wind blowing the boat away from you. Tell people where & how long you will be gone ? No cellphone service and high winds. Oh well
  18. At 84 & having stopped breathing 5 times & come back. I took the attitude my reflexes are gone. So I took stock of why I was missing solid hook ups so much. 4# mono Ande was too stretchy with 60 to 100' trailing a small Rapala. Worse was all the dull, bent and broken hook points. So I did a 100' test of the Ande 4# next to the 4# braided at 100'. It was ridiculous to ever consider 4# mono ever again. So I respooled everything with 6# braided. I am a happy Geezer again. C & R bass. Bring in perch for seniors again. Age & medications can affect your C & R rate.
  19. I have only questioned & had her cut back on spending to much on casual friends. Who spend nothing in return. When I pay for open bar & food for holidays. I want to know the person by name.
  20. I made a couple with white plastic toy boat props. Worked great. Still use them . Some serious rpm noise.
  21. That is how I like my crayfish & lobsters. ?
  22. The pike will sometimes checkout a stringer fish. Or a stringer of fish.
  23. I found out that line DIGGING IN is always way to loose of winding tension. OR A rewinding system not SPACING the turns far enough apart. I always wear a leather glove and squeeze the line to make a tight build up. The Mitchell 300s really spread the turns apart. About 1/16 " each revolution. Why it is so good into the wind?
  24. Spent 5 minutes with my S S Needle nose pliers Crushing down the barbs. My finger and palm skin & the fishes insides appreciate how fast I can release the deep throat & gill hooking's. Late edit I do have a old excellent way to find out if a unhooked badly bleeding fish will positively survive or die. Simple way. I put him on the metal stringer. I push the METAL point thru the skin right at the lower tip of the lower jaw. Back into the water quickly. No handling or wiggling of him. Some are in shock and just gills moving. 15 or so minutes & they are revived and antsy to be released. Some were terrible gill bleeders. Their blood will coagulate in seconds. So the quick into the water works. In 40 ? years I have only had 3 ? become dinner. Some were bad gill wounds.
