  1. That's a matzuo...I think.
  2. My daughters had no problem with spinning reels at that age. I just tied a washer on the night before and took them out in the back yard for about a half hour.
  3. I use them when planning an out of town trip...any edge I can get when taking time off work and driving for hours. I can't say if it's actually accurate or not, but I can say I haven't had a dud of trip since I've started taking these into account. I don't bother looking anymore when staying close to home though. Why let it get in my head? I know I've had some very good days when the table says I shouldn't.
  4. I have always used cedar but have never got the weighting right for cranks. I'm stuck on spook style lures.
  5. Hard to go wrong with Loomis or St. Croix. I've never handled a megabass rod but these guys on this forum have always seemed to know what they're talking about.
  6. I rarely listen to music while fishing but I always have the Reds games on.
  7. ^ this is what I've always heard too.
  8. I almost hestitate to post this, since this sounds so unbelievable, but a buddy and I once caught over 200 smallmouth in a day at Lake St. Claire. I was literally exhausted by the time we went in. 90% were at least 2 lbs with the largest being 6. I can't imagine ever having another day like that again.
  9. My home water is very similar in the fact that throwing a jig is the same as throwing dollar bills directly into the water due to the broken bedrock. I saw a post a few years ago (I'll credit you yet again a-jay) about these boss punch hubs and it changed the way I fish these rocky waters. If you can get your t-rig through, then this is the way to go.
  10. Try switching to a t-rig with a boss punch hub and a skirt.
  11. Poll is skewed...I accidentally hit "sit in".
  12. Be aware that dale hollow, despite having record size smallies, can be a very difficult lake to fish for most of the year. My old man has a buddy who lives on the lake and he says it's nothing like the great lakes where i've literally exhausted myself due the amount of fish i bring in. I know 2 guides on dale hollow that consider 6 good smallmouth a good day. In that format, I feel targeting shallows for largemouth isn't necessarily a bad plan. Not saying some haven't figured this lake out, but it's kinda cool to see the pros struggle initially like many others I know on dale hollow.
  13. 4" Senko Tube - venom roadkill DT-6 Crazy Leg Chigger Craw - bream Spinner - venom hidden head Honorable mention: koppers hollow body frog, jig, magic swimmer, husky jerk, x-cal silent crank, and ribbon tail plastic worm. Quite honestly, these are what I'm using 95% of the time.
  14. I've had some luck on optimum swimbaits, magic swimmers, and savage swimbaits in indy. I'm not sure of the exact length but I'd guess them to be between 6" and 9". Last season I did best during the pre-spawn with cranks and caught my larger bass on tubes.
  15. Lipless cranks. I still carry 2 but anymore they almost never come out the box. I've lost all confidence in them but know they must catch fish for someone.
  16. My brother has had a caenan since the first year it came out and he still uses it and really likes it. I clean it for him every winter and it is easy to breakdown and maintain. I've heard good things about the h20, black max, and BPS extremes (which should be able to be had at a good price during their big sale here in a month or two) but have never used any of those. There was a guy who posted that he was buying the Chinese knock-off reels on ebay about a year ago. I never heard how that went for him but the features on some of these reels sounded nice.
  17. I'm from Cincinnati so it's hard for me to give you good directions. I was coming from naples and had to pass the area and go to mile marker 52 and come back. At 52 was an Indian Reservation and a gas station along with a sign saying now entering boward county. If you were to drive down alligator alley, pay attention to the mile markers I would think you'd hit it. It's designated as a "recreation area" with a boat ramp. Most of my fish came pitching to grass mats with crazy leg chigger craws near bowling ball sized boulders southwest side of the overpass and at that following bend on the east side of the canal. I had little luck at locations not near boulders. I also got a few smaller ones on spinners along the grass lines and one on a top water frog. Good luck and hope this helps.
  18. I cross the bridge to Canada and target grass beds for big smallies with tubes then do a little trolling for muskys.
  19. I first really got into it in college when money was super tight. It was cheap compared to my friends who were always on the links. Some of those same friends and I were talking not long ago about this when I realized their clubs and my combos weren't too far apart cost wise. They're greens fees are similar to the cost of filling up my boat. Based on my golfing skills, I still believe I'm ahead just based on how many balls I typically lose in 18.
  20. I just fished the canal off of 75 - mile marker 49 yesterday, which I believe is right at the county line. I did ok having never fished it before (7 bass, biggest being 4 lbs). I talked with a few guys there and they said that stretch is very productive.
  21. I for one, have had no problems with the t-wing system. I can't say that it makes a huge difference either way but I understand the concept. I certainly don't feel this will hinder the reels performance.
  22. Ugly stick BPS glass rods (the yellow ones)
  23. At my local honey hole I've seen many colors but I took a few home once and put them in an aquarium and they ended up a dark bronze with bright orange tips. I painted a couple cranks that exact color for this specific spot and have never caught a thing on those cranks. I've painted some of those same cranks in a rainbow trout pattern and smash bass with them there. There are no trout in this water system. Funny how things work out.
  24. 5-15 on a t-rigged venom tube in bad blood roadkill.
