I gave up on Blackwater a few weeks ago. Seems like the bite just cut off. I had all kinds of luck with cranks until a few weeks ago. Have had some luck with sinkos but seems like most are guarding fry and won't bite. Just chase and roll. Head down towards the dam and fish the fingers. All my topwater was early in the area where the second outline is. All the others were on the Z-Man Green Pumpkin.

Live on a farm so right now it is in the driveway. When (if) I put it up for the winter it will go in the barn.

4.5 pounder on Smith Mountain this morning on a Z-man Green Pumpkin Carolina rigged worm. Topwater was explosive this morning around 6:30 but nothing over 2 pounds. They eat up a Spook.

I use 5/0 with Caffeine Shad. The weight has just the right sink rate and gave me the best action.

I got the 5/0 version yesterday. Very heavy gauge hook. Nice!

OK... a bit over the top with the statement. I don't kill ALL. I leave the little guys be and they do a good job scavenging up the dead stuff. Just the big ones and someone does get the carcass and eats it. If you have seen the damage they have done... you would as well. They have dug holes nearly completely through my dam before and have caused leaks, I make no apologies for controlling the population. I have guys that come and fish for turtles but have not been able to catch them all so they have to be removed in any way possible.And no... it is not about sportsmanship or environmentalism. It's about damage control. Plain and simple

When the pants go on, my Glock 21SF with Federal Tactical HST 230gr .45 is on my belt. During work it sits in a Bladetech paddle holster with a SF 300 light and any other time it is in a Bladetech UCH.

I just make it a point to kill EVERY turtle I find in any of my ponds. I have shot ones as big as a garbage can top... 2'+ across.

Silstars, IIRC, were the mainstay in Walmart's fishing line back in the day on the cheap. I believe they were made, or at least marketed by, Pinnicle. Not a great make but adequate for pond fishing for bluegill and crappie. They did have heavier tackle for bass and cats. We used to keep a few around the house for visiting family to use so they could keep their skinners off the good stuff.

I am heading down to Emerald Isle (as we do every year) in the near future. I want to rent a small fishing boat... 17 to 21 foot for fishing in the sound for whatever. Can anybody recommend who to rent from? I guess the real question is "Is there anybody to rent from?" I want to take my Wife and Daughter on the trip so it needs to be an "operate yourself" rental. Any ideas????

I have started to use swimbaits much more lately and have been trying different ones. The other day, I found one hung in a tree and pulled it down, gave it a try, and loved it. Problem is I lost it by the end of the day. I was hoping someone would be able to tel.l me who the maker was if I described it... Big jig head with a spiral wire around the hook shank to hold the bait on. Jig head was white with what looked like a speckled blue tip... almost looked airbrushed. Body was pretty much sexy shad colored with a hollow body about 6" long. Eyes were hard and seemed to be on the body and then another layer applied over that body to seal the eyes and color in. I have no idea who made it and I know the description is vague but I was... well... shooting in the dark... Just hoping for someone to know what I am talking about 'cause it looks like I don't.

I am envious!!!! Cats are my favorite freshwater fish to eat. I just don't go enough for them. Beautiful fish there!!!!
