  1. Okay guys, I'm still in the process of restoring my boat, but I finally got a motor, x2. A guy in town was selling an 1986 25hp Mercury that he hadn't used in three years, said it ran great, and it was very clean on the inside. It sat in storage, and was SeaFoamed before he put it away. The compression was also good, so I got it for $400. I haven't been able to test it yet, but so far it all looks positive. Now to my question. Along with this, he threw in a 1977 25hp Mercury electric start that doesn't work. He said he took it to someone and they said they thought it had a bent shaft. The guy I bought them from says the motor won't shift. Any idea what could be wrong? By the sounds of it the problem is in the lower part of the unit from what I have researched. Any help would be great. Thanks.
  2. Your conscious should be clear. I believe you did the right thing. Its people like that who ruin the sport for the others that respect it. I believe not only me, but most of us would have done the same. That fish will thank you a few years down the road when he's you PB.
  3. I took advantage of it today.
  4. Mines casting too. Paired it with a pro max.
  5. For $80 that rod is a great buy. Its very light and sensitive for its price range. Abu Garcia has some quality control issues sometimes, but if you do have an issue their customer service is top notch. I bought a Veritas a few weeks ago and love it.
  6. Will do thanks! The next step is jigs..
  7. It plays a big role in the reels i buy, theres a lot of reels out there I would like to try, but theyre only right handed. I still think its more convenient to reel left handed though.
  8. Well guys, after reading all your advice, watching videos, and working an few things out, my hook up ratios have improved 10 fold. I cought about ten bass within an hour and a half with my frog. A few issues i fixed: Tightened drag more, Picked up slack line faster, SET HOOK HARDER. I can now confidently fish my frogs, thanks a lot guys! Heres one i caught today.
  9. Just giving you a report on the promax. I have now heavily fished mine for the past week, its seen probably 7 outings or more where its the only reel I fished. Its on a 7'6 MH F Veritas for frogs and jigs. The reel has a great drag, casts very well, and is very smooth. I have enjoyed fishing with it and believe it is well worth the money.
  10. That's what I have been doing. Its just the hookset that's been getting me. Trust me, I get plenty of chances to set the hook. I think I need to let them have it for a second or too then set the hook much harder. I will try tomorrow and get back to you guys. Thanks for the help.
  11. just a small upward motion. Nothing hard, probably not hard enough. And thanks Mark for the help, il keep working at it!
  12. Yeah, i thought it was still me lol. I have a 7'6 MH Abu Garcia Veritas with and Abu Garcia Pro Max 7.1:1 and its spooled with #50 PP. Maybe im not setting the hook hard enough.
  13. I have been setting the hook on more fish, but still no where near as many as i should be. I have been using pad crashers, yesterday me, my dad, and GF all lost fish on this frog, is it me or the lure? I have missed enough fish and tried enough things to think at this point it may not be me.
  14. Congrats! Make sure toblwt us know what you think of it.
  15. I have been using Booyah Pad Crashers Fishing heavy matts. I usually just drag them across and twitch them a little. But i walk them in open water some, they seem to be pretty good, especially for the money. After bouncing them off docks and being hit by bass many many times they are still holding up. I dont have an issue with them filling with water like what you are describing with the Live Targets. For soft plastic frogs I have been using Yum Buzzfrogs, Hollow Body I use Booyah Pad Crashers. First off, dont be surprised at how shallow of water the bass will come out of when frog fishing. I am also just now getting into frog fishing too, just recently got a designated set up for it and everything. The mats i have been fishing are only in less then 3 feet of water, and they hit it HARD. Even though you haven't seen the bass hit topwater hard, try it for a while and see how they react. Im sure theyre there. Drag your frog over pads, and matts if you have them. If not walk them around cover, things like Logs sticking up out of the water, along weed beds, things like that. They will come right out of the cover and smash it. Best of luck, Christian
  16. Congrats! Good Luck with them!
  17. I fished my new Pronmax for a little while today. The drag was solid. Fairly smooth. Casted very well. Brought in a 1 1/2 lb fish with 4lbs of slop. I'd recomend it.
  18. Got the Veritas and slapped a Pro Max on it.
  19. I just bought a pro max, haven't used the black max. I will fish it tomorrow and let you know how it is.
  20. My dad loves those purple worms with the white stripes. ( the pre rigged ones). I have also had good luck with them.
  21. I finally picked up my new frogging setup. I will be using it for jigs and c-rids also. I went to Gander Moumtain and picked up a 7.1:1 ratio Abu Garcia Pro Max. Then I went to Dunhams and got a 7'6" Abu Garcia Veritas MH Fast asction. I'm going to spool it up with #65 braid and head out to use it tomorrow. Thabks for the help guys!
  22. Do you think it will have enough backbone for heavy slop?
