  1. I don't think the higher end lews spinning reels have been out long enough to give any sort of opinion on them. Shimano spinning reels are kind of the "it" when it comes to spinning reels. fantastic reels.
  2. shimano reels hold their resale value very well. the reels would have to be in very awful shape and almost unrecognizable to be sold for 50% less than their original msrp. these reels are sold on the bay and that will give you an idea of what an average going rate for those reels are by checking previous auctions. based on your description, they seem to be in pretty good shape.people that are interested in these reels aren't buying them for the cosmetics. as long as the boat rash isn't awful or there aren't any deep scratches and missing parts, the physical shape of the reel won't be a major concern.(you will obviously get more for a near mint reel than a lesser grade reel but the difference people would pay for say a 7/10 vs 8/10 is minimal at best) the performance of these specific reels (especially the cu-200) is what they are after. that cu-200 is a tank and will perform flawlessly for years if taken care of. same goes for the calcutta i won't give you an average price for the reel but i'll tell you they can be sold pretty easily. as for the rods, i have no idea.
  3. i've really caught on lately to the heavier shakey heads. for the longest time i would stick to the standard 1/8oz or 3/16 oz on light line. the past year has really been great after trying 3/8 and 1/2 oz shakey heads /w larger biffle bugs worms and craws on heavy fluorocarbon.
  4. black friday sales will put them at 160 but not any lower through a few vendors but not all.
  5. i use 51s and 51mg chronarchs. no issues at all. love em.
  6. i could be wrong but i thought those were sold out via ganders website almost immediately.
  7. i can't imagine having any issues throwing that particular pointer or anything that size /w the 704 cb.
  8. ideally i prefer a moderate tip but fast action would suffice
  9. Are you kidding me?? Two pages and nobody is trying to start a ticking match? Shimano's better than Abu Garcia!!! sorry, somebody had to.
  10. the fish up on northern WI will be on the fall feed. find the forage they are eating. it's getting to that time of year that most presentations will work as the fish are not picky. they just want to eat before ice up. topwater should be amazing especially if it's that cool of water and cloudy.
  11. i'm sorry you feel that way but wayne is completely correct....just pulling up to a spot and fishing a rockpile or tree or w/e is much less productive than pinpointing where fish are holding or what they are holding on and fishing those areas.
  12. well if you find the older version of the 69mlxf let me know where if you would please. i like the older split grip more than the new ones. i've been looking for this rod specifically for over a year now for a specific purpose and it seems those who have it won't give it up.
  13. yup. that's relatively shallow to the point you probably could have got it back with some effort diving. that is a terrible combo to lose. sorry for your loss. hope you get it back.
  14. it didn't make a difference. they just improved the blank. did you find an older 69mlxf spinning rod?
  15. if you're using straight braid the xf tip can really make it be too much rod for heavy swim jigs unless you're throwing it really heavy, dense cover. the the 745 is a fantastic jig rod but i do not like throwing swim jigs on it.on the rare occasions i use braid, it's on a swim jig rod but it's the 733 to compensate for the braid. i fish the 1/4 swim jigs in lily pads, weed lines and don't have issues pulling bass out. the 734 would be perfect for 1/2oz swim jigs. the tip on the champion is a tad slower than the DX line which i prefer for swim jigs but not skirted traditional jigs.
  16. the differences are the powers or the last number in the model i.e 733 is a 3 power or MH. 4 powers are Heavy. some of the 5 powers are listed as MH but are MH in their given application series if that makes sense. the 735c is listed as a frog/flipping rod but it's a MH but it's more powerful than the 4 powers which are Heavy. for frogs, the 735c is THE frog rod that dobyns makes. super powerful but has an amazing tip that allows for long casts. the 735's are made /w extra fast tips specifically for this while the majority of the dobyns line ups are fast or crankbait rods. the
  17. targeting large catfish will give you one heck of a fight.
  18. The only time I really engage in any in depth fishing conversation or the bite of the day is if somebody /w kids asks me. i don't even get bothered if the father/son/kids camp on where they saw me caught fish. i get out on the water a lot more than he probably does /w his kids. However, I cannot stand those ignorant people that motor up next to you in small backwater channels, ask you how the fishing is going and proceed to fish almost at your same clip on the opposite bank while occasionally trying to engage in conversation.
  19. you can..but that a 4/5 power is more ideal.
  20. the only line that doesn't stretch is braided line. even some braids have a low 3% stretch. the amount of stretch a line has is dependent on the brand. for example pline CXX is a copoly and has some of the most stretch a line could have but it's incredibly strong. all fluorocarbons stretch as well. you can't really make a statement like "fluorocarbon stretches just as much as mono". you have to compare similar lines to actually get to that conclusion. for example, seaguar inviszX is a very stretchy line and people that have only used this could probably make that comparison to mono. however, a line like sunline shooter or seaguar tatsu doesn't have even half the amount of stretch as most monos. In general, fluorocarbon isn't as easy to handle as mono, it's more sensitive than mono, it sinks, it has light refraction qualities than make it less visible in water, you can feel bites much better on a slack line due to it's density.

i prefer the spike it markers. not as easy as dipping the claws in a jar but it's cleaner and you can get a little more "artistic" with them.
  23. i have an older abu garcia 6501c3 that did this. the "screeching" was unbearably loud. i cleaned each bearing and tested them individually. it was the spool bearing. i applied a small amount of oil and it fixed the issue.
