It's perfectly possible that is the original bait but, the only reason I say that is I use the big saltwater versions for offshore fish. Interesting idea using it for bass though.

I'd stay with the shorter versions, 4.5 or shorter, for the drop shot and then then the seven inch for the shaky-head. Margarita Mutilator has been working well around here lately.

Given the weeds are not to built up, a squarebill crank in shad colors or a rattle-trap if there are weeds should work. Can't go wrong with flukes this time of year either. I personally like crawling swim-baits across the bottom.
