and here i thought I was alone in the skunk master club. Summer has been awful. 1 bass in the whole summer for me with 2 tilapia in between. I havent caught a thing since july 5. I go fishing at least once a week.

my fishing for the next two weeks is going down the drain here in PR as we get the storm Isaac tomorrow and there is another trailing it. that will disrupt the fishing for the next couple weeks at least. Maybe I go from getting skunked to getting skunked LOL

im no expert by any means. Theoretically I would fish dt20's with my rod half way in the water paul elias style trying to make the dam things get as deep as possible. Maybe even longlining over the very deep(70feet) water. If you have structure scan look for possible highways late in the day where the big fish move to shallow water. keep in mind bass sometimes move in a straight line not following a specific pattern.

the challenge, the anticipation. Ive always felt like the lake was the most peaceful place there was in the whole world. I love that place even when it skunks my to hell and back. I feel at peace.

I dont own a boat so I cant troll. Ive gone fishing with people that do own boats(like my uncle did and a friend) and the only technique was trolling rapalas. I do think that a fish Ive caught trolling and much less of an acomplishment than those ive caught by reading here learning and working on what ive learned because i knew that i had to When we went trolling the only technique was the if clockwise you didnt find them they would go counterclockwise.

dude theres no need for name calling and taking it personal. Im free to speak my mind as I was not attacking you personally. You can make your point by providing an argument and proving me wrong.

my poor 6 weeks old baby is sick here is a quick questions to those in favor of trolling: where is the sport in trolling a 200 acre lake over an over and over until the fish find your bait and hook themselves? where is the challenge? so you have to worry about depth and that is controlled by speed, you have to control the speed of the boat. your rod can sit on a rod holder. VS casting at the right spot, controlling the fall(if any) working the rod, cranking the reel at the rate you want it and setting the hook. dont get me started on locating the fish vs running around and stumble on them. i can post and excerpt from the in fisherman series against trolling they ripped buck perry apart(well the person who wrote it). I bet many of the legends of the sport find it to be a low way of fishing. its just a step behind throwing a net and catching stringers.

let me explain the comment! I fish a reservoir thats 266 acres when full(usually its not full). I have also been to another lake thats around 150 acres when full. The lakes in PR are not big by any means. not compated to the 100k + acre lake you guys have in the states, the okeechobees and the great lakes. the guys that go trolling here do so because they dont want to cast and recast. I have personally talked to a bunch of them. they think its a hassle and most of them are bucket fishermen to begin with. a lap around the lake takes less than one hour. to be continued baby is crying

dont go trolling. IMHO trolling is for lazy losers that want to have everything easy. It involves very little technique and it gets old really fast. not fun at all. tie a shad rap rapala or a rapala dt 10 to dt 16 and burn gasoline and wait for the fish to do all the work. this is exactly what my uncle does. run around with those baits on and he catches something. I knew of a guy fishing structure that got around 50 bass in my home lake and that is extremely tough on my high pressured waters. work on learning structure and cover and you will be much better than a guy trolling. Once again this is my humble opinion.

welcome to the club! Ive been getting skunked a LOT. Since I started fishing in march ive caught 4 bass,3 or 4 tilapia and one cat. Only 1 bass in the summer. Dont feel like quitting, this will be experience for next years summer. I try to enjoy and be at peace in the lake even if im not catching anything. I also practice my casting skills when im there. practice my accuracy, my left hand casting and my flipping and pitching. Use the time to get better. ohhh man thats my nightmare right there. Someone stealing my stuff after Im hundreds maybe close to a thousand in the hole. buddy i suggest you dont go into a shopping spree. buy a couple lures, learn to use them and then buy more. Thats the step I would have taken if I were to do it all over again.

I dont own any Northstar SB and Like the rest of their products I bet they are great. I can tell you though that there isnt a better spinnerbait than a KVD spinnerbait. those things are wicked and they flat out catch fish. Ive gotten catfish and tilapia on spinnerbaits. Its awesome. Those are very high quality. I love bleeding shad and chartreuse with gold blades willowleaf.

6 empty trips. the levels of the lake went UP. I have 3 or 4 spots to fish when i used to have a TON of shoreline spots. For the next trip im gonna consider two things since im fishing from the shore: im gonna go into a different reservoir or im gonna go extremely early to see if i can catch the early risers. Im kinda frustrated. I need a boat, a canoe, anything that may help me float and reach those places where the fish are holding. My situation sucks!

thats awesome that she is now hooked. I wish I was in you position with my GF(she is scared of the fish pulling her). anyways that fish is better than anything ive caught and the way things are going she is going to be a better fisherman than me in no time!! congrats! Enjoy the good days and the skunks. the skunks make the good days more memorable.

if you damage a fish that bad, take home or give it to someone who would eat it. Dont let it go to waste.

im starting to try to back away from the power fishing style ive adopted and going into a finnesse fishing style. I believe this may suit my lake and the actual condition im in. Im thinking about shakey heads, hopping jigs, senkos again, developing skills on the texas AND carolina rigs. So im watching a lot of fishing videos. Im trying to figure out what do I need to fish those styles. like you say, reaction strikes are so fun. sometimes you just have to go with something that catches fish. Bottom line i want to catch fish regularly. right now regularly is one ever 3 weeks or something stupid like that.

And Im back at 5 skunks. This sucks. the lake was kinda weird. It was a cloudy day and the fish were NOT splashing and eating on top water like they usually do. Maybe they were somewhere else. I didnt heard many splashes from bass. for some reason either the reel keeps breaking in or im getting better or both. I can cast really far with it with minimal effort. I did a guesstimation and I think im between 80-120 feet. I used poppers, the rage shad and spinnerbaits. There was a lot of dirt and leaves in top of the water which made it worse if i tried surface lures. I may go fishing tomorrow again but ill go to another lake(30min farther than my home lake). I dont know.... wish me luck i guess. the picture in the first post is the picture with the spot i was fishing, the one with no water on it and bushes in the back part of it.

i got some in a lot i bought from someone here. I tried rigging it tail up, with a red gammy 4/0 superline ewg. It drops really slow. i did it close to me to observe the action and it seemed like the tail did nothing or very little. I bet it was a fault on my end. I also want to know after the fall how do I fish it? how much time it rests if I have to let it rest. How effective it is? Also how should I fish the Anaconda? in the instructions in the package it does says texas rigged but I dont know how to present it. It doesnt say hook size either. the biggest i have is a Gammy 4/0 offset hook ewg. Thats exactly what I used. To the masters like Big O: how little a fish does the anaconda catches? It is a LONG worm for sure.

Skunked again. For some reason the bass were at the weeds not where I was where there aren't as many weeds. It's been 4 skunks back to back, close to 6 like the last time. I only fished for 2.5 hrs. I used the baits I talked about in the previous post. I noticed that my reel got broken in or something cause all of a sudden it started casting a mile and feeling extremely smooth. Has anyone else noticed this with their reels? Mine is a daiwa laguna. I will put vocal bearing on it and polish it when I get a chance.

I have a 7 ft mh extra fast mainly for spinnerbaits. It's paired with a daiwa laguna. I absolutely love my combo. It's an amazing rod.

Why is it clacker?

A tropical storm just passed thru here. I have a day off and like the wfn saying: everyday its a great day for fishing. Yes I'm going fishing, I know the odds are against me. Same thought I had before and I've caught fish. I'll be fishing for two hours. Hopefully the lake doesn't look like hot chocolate. I will fish a anaconda, spinnerbaits and a senko. Maybe a livetarget crank

I went fishing yesterday for two hours or so. The bass were going nuts on topwater eating shad. I couldn't catch one. If only I could cast farther I would be right on top of em. I will go fishing again on Sunday. I will go to a spot where I caught bass before.

I don't now about you guys but I would never eat a dying fish. You are eating a fish that can be infected with some toxins or some kind of disease that could put your health at risk. In the lake the dead fish also serves a purpose and feeds other kinds of wildlife.

Went fishing on Thursday. Man was I disappointed. 6 hours fishing and no bites yet for some reason I sticked to the same spot. My uncle was trolling the lake on his boat while I was fishing from shore and he told me the bite was slow. ******* has taken me fishing on his boat once in 2 decades. I hate when people are greedy. I was supposed to go fishing today since its ly day off from work but my wife I coming back from a weekend with her parents in a hotel, while i was working too, and her car is acting up so here I am waiting in case Anything happens. This last trip was hard to me took some of that desire to fish from me. I have to go to my best friend son birthday. So no fishing later today either. Tough times...
