  1. I have about 6 hours(from 6am to 12pm) to fish tomorrow. a cold front passed today and I will like to know if I should fish tomorrow or not? tomorrow is supposed to be a very cold day. what should I expect other than getting no bites? how challenging and frustrating it is to fish in a post front?
  2. I wanted to up my fishing time and I did. I went fishing 3 times the last week for a total of around 12 hours. Im planning on doing the same on this week. Tomorrow is going to be my first trip of the week. Sunday I went fishing and caught one fish. then i caught this beast of a backlash that pretty much rendered that rod useless for the rest of the trip. that happened in the second cast. i caught thas fish on spinning tackle. Unfortunately that was the only fish of the day. there was a tournament in the morning and I thought the bass was very pressured through this weekend. I heard that some people caught 30 fish per day while others had 1 or 2. I thought the bass were very selective. 2ND DAY TUESDAY I caught a dink on a livetarget shiner(same lure I use to catch the sundays fish) I kept fishing and in a spot i heard some bass splashing water behind me so I decided to pick up another of my kvd spinnerbaits and while banging it to some shallow rocks I caught MY NEW PB. she fought like a beast, it was amazing!!! OH MY GOD ITS BIGGER THAN THE JUICE!!! IT WAS AWESOME TO SAY THE LEAST!!! then I went fishing on friday. awful day. I hated it, caught nothing all morning then caught a tilapia. after that I got rained on. I left the place when it started raining. I didnt wanted to get a cold or something. I used all week: spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and the lipless crank from livetarget. I want numbers, I would love to have more days with more than 2 fish. this week im gonna slow down. anchor down so the wind doesnt affect me and anchor in one of my most productive spots and fish slowly at least for 2 hours and see how I do. Jigs and drop shotting is what im gonna use. thanks for checking out!
  3. Ive been thinking about the best way to keep my trolling motor running without making me break the bank on electricity bills. I think the charger im using uses a lot of electricity hence making my bill go up. I went to the local marine store and the owner had a chat with me about what my options were. 1. he has an interstate deep cycle battery thats rated 1000 cranks. it costs 140$ and it may be the best option. I still have to find a way to charge it constantly without breaking the bank. I think its a little overkill but it should last a couple trips. 2. he talked about a system that I can hook to the boat so that when i get home I plug the boat to the wall and a it will charge for a couple hours and ill be done with it. He says anything, even the 25$ options will work for this because my boat is small and doesnt need a lot of juice(the motor is a 27# trolling motor) 3. He offered me a solar panel that costs 55$. he says it should maintain my system with all the sun I get on the lake. I dont know what kind of power do I need and how big a panel it is and if it will get on the way. Honestly I dont know what other options I have and which is the best for my use. what do you guys think? Ive also thought about doing a mix between a couple of the options.
  4. I will be really happy if shaw won the whole thing!! he is such a nice likable guy. Its like hes on of my buddies.
  5. I came up with the easiest solution to my problem. It may look a little rugged and maybe ugly but it does the work until I get a foot controlled trolling motor.
  6. Jfrancho I know!!!! Ive seen those guys in steep ramps rev the boats up into the trailer while pulling the car away so that the momentum from the boat would push the car and trailer up the ramp. It was a sight!!! My car pulls the boat easily and I dont have trouble stopping the car unless Im going down hill for a half hour or so. the breaks get a little hot but nothing to be worried. the car can stop no problem. Im also taking a detour to avoid traffic and cops that makes my trip 30 minutes longer.
  7. I ignored the last couple posts because I think they are talking about the latest episode and I wont see it until friday. So far a couple of you have been bummed that they are only fishing one kind of thing. say docks in this one, in the first cup it was mostly jerk bait fishing that won the tournament. I see it this way, I need to learn everything in bass fishing so I got the chance to learn a lot of different things about jerkbaits and the alabama rig and they also talked a lot about locating fish in open water. It was and awesome learning experience and Ive watched a couple of the episodes two and even 3 times just to watch where and how they retrieve the lures. This time around we have a bunch of the best pitch/flip fishermans in the world. You get to see their techniques, where they put the baits, how they retrieve them, their presentation, adjustments, everything!!! everything!!!!! If this cup is not a dock fishing seminar for you guys, you need to rewatch and rewatch again and youll find the info you need. BTW there are no docks in PR so I wont be able to try those techniques. maybe when the levels rise I can skip under trees. Im hooked with jerkbaits I even ordered a MCStick LOL
  8. i bought a 12 ft jon boat that I pull with a Hyundai excel very well. mounting the hitch was tricky but the little car can pull the trailer and light boat no problem. the key here is that the ramps here are excellent. WIDE, not very steep and with a great surface that does not slip. Ive seen people pulling glass boats(heavy) with chevrolet sprints 3 cylinders.
  9. I will be traveling to FL in june and I will like to know where can I go fishing near Kissimmee? I will be staying in a hotel near Disney in a timeshare or something like that. I definitely want to try my luck fishing in the states. Im Thinking about either buying a cheap ugly stick setup there and fish with it and a couple lures or buying a good setup, using it there for the first time and ship it to my house after im done. For what ive seen the closest lakes will be lake toho, I just dont know if its a good lake for shore fishing or if there is a place where I can rent a boat even a paddle jon boat and paddle around. I also want to know if there are good ponds around? maybe going to a pond will be easier, more convenient than going to a big lake like toho where I may get lost or something. I have a FL boating license so renting wont be a problem. I know ill have to get the fishing license. whats the better option? I almost forgot, I DONT WANT ENCOUNTERS WITH GATORS. LOL Im exited!!! thanks guys!!!
  10. Im looking to backwards engineer or take some ideas so I can build a bow mount for my trolling motor. If anyone could I would love to be able to see pictures for those gator bow mounts, the hinges, the system and everything in between. I CANT buy one of those for over 100$$ like it is selling on ebay right now. Thank you very much! I will post pics of what I build for the TM
  11. dude this site has helped me so much into taking care of getting my license. because of it I started looking for a way. unfortunately P Rico will not be giving the course for the license until march. I got my boat already and I NEED to have it ready and legal(even though I can go a risk a ticket) to fish!!! anyways ive read the whole Law regarding marine navigation in PR. They state that they would accept any certification from NASBLA approved training centers. Just like the Boat US Foundation. Anyways, I dont have family in the states, or else I would take the license for any of the states, print the certificate, get the license for PR with it and be legal. They would mail me the license so Im still in the process of asking IF they would accept my PR address. It would be great if I could, specially since Im going to Fl this summer I can maybe rent a boat and have some fun!! Anyways I just wanted to give you and update and maybe you guys have an idea that could help me. I dont want to have my Boat sitting in my garage for 2 months until I can use it.
  12. A Jay I thought they couldnt use side scan or down imaging or all that other things that are normal on other tournament. I think they only have contour maps and gps.
  13. im so hooked i bought the cup from 2012!!! going to start watching in a couple minutes!
  14. If I stand on the floor that has no deck it is extremely stable. the decks are ok but a little tipsy and wont be safe if I start doing power hooksets. I have an idea for the trolling motor mount. Ill try it when I get a chance
  15. Yauco Puerto Rico. there was a very helpful old man that showed me the lure he was catching fish with, the times and spots and told me about a new law that forces anglers to wear life vest all the time. all this without asking for it. He was such a nice man. makes me change my whole view on the subject( successful lures used and spots).
  16. I went to the lake today. I was a little and all I did was run some test on my boat. I checked how to trolling motor ran and it ran well but I cant seem to find the way to use the forward speeds without starting to run circles. I cant control it well yet. I also mounted, dismounted the boat alone for the first time. I also turned the motor on by myself and that thing is EASY to turn over. It was great knowing that I can do that by myself. I ran around with the trailer behind my car. It was good. The work I did was very good. Only ONE mishap. I didnt hook the trailer right the first time and It got disengaged up a hill. I was scary to say the least. It took me around 20 minutes to take it to safety and fix a stupid rookie mistake made by me. Anyways I couldnt fish for a decent amount of time but it was a great experience.
  17. taken your recommendation my boat will be 12 feet by 4 feet(but this is only in the widest spot.) (144 x 48)/15 = 480
  18. I cant find the weight capacity of this boat anywhere. its a 1980 sears 12 ft v hull. Also as you can see in the first picture, it has like a 1.5 inch rib that runs thru the sides. The seller told me those are supposed to make the boat less tipsy. Would that make the boat so much better that i can use it to fish the flats in the sea? what other things can I do to make it better in terms of stability?
  19. Bkeith thank you very much. that will solve the problem ill have about positioning the trolling motor on the side of the boat. Im working the boat little by little and soon enough it will be perfect. Im screwed though as I dont have the license to use the boat
  20. for the ones still looking to buy, use code FISH and you get a small discount. I paid like 12.90 for the cup. I really hope they hold at least 4 cups per year. I like marteens but its for his ability. they are all there because they can fish like none of us can. Marteens seems like he is on another level. His problem, like some of you stated was staying too long working his strengths. I cant wait for the next episode!!!
  21. thank you guys!!!! ive gotten a lot of useful information from your replies. I got one more question that popped today. you know hoy trolling motors look like this: [ handle up top and the bottom line being where the propeller is pointing, just like that symbol __ handle | | __ propeller. I want it like this: __ handle | | o propeller facing your face. l think im not being clear enough.. like instead of having both propeller and handle pointing the same spot I want to move the handle 45 degrees. (i think that a little more clear) can i do that to my older minnkota Tm???
  22. I am the happiest fisherman ever!!! I just got my first boat!! fished like two hours yesterday when I got it and was testing it and caught a nice bass. ok so as you can see I want higher seats so my legs can rest at a 90 degree bend. if I cant fish comfortably I wont stay in the boat for long periods of time. this is very important. My main concern is: it being a 12ft boat its a little tipsy if you move suddenly. How higher can I go with the seats without compromising security? I want to eliminate the top deck right up front or part of it just so I can fit better there. Will that compromise anything? is there a way to make a mount in the front to mount the trolling motor? Ive seen those in the bass boats that the motor rests on the deck up top but I somehow think those are expensive. can I make a L shaped piece to mount right up front and use that provisionally until I can buy the other one? the Specs: Its a 12 ft aluminum boat with a V hull. It has a Johnson 10 hp motor on the back and a 24# minnkota for the trolling motor with 5 speeds up and two in reverse. It was used as you can see so its a little rough around the edges. It has a full carpet, a deck behind and a small deck on front. It also has a homemade livewell. came with trailer and pretty much everything. please IF I can fix them on the cheap right now, it will be awesome. I kinda end up a little short after buying it so I dont have a LOT of money to work on it. EDIT: Im 5'10 230 and I fish with a guy thats around 200. How much weight can I fit on the boat?
  23. yes endless that one!! i just saw the new ones with the confessions from the wives LOL. Yes buddy Im from Puerto Rico!!!
  24. great!!! now I only have to convince my local Dept of Natural Resources to accept the course for FL(in PR, people from the US can drive cars with the license from any state) and give me the conference for the local laws!
  25. I love the wife destroying the ugly stick. I think its the first one they made. for some reason I cant paste anything in this forum or open the buttons for the pictures. Google Chrome
