Do You Scratch Your New Crankbaits?
Ive heard of many people doing this. Do you scratch the clear of your crankbaits to make them look worn out?? I just did this with one of my cranks, the one im gonna fish this next wednesday. It does look like it reflects way less light which could be one of the reasons people do this.

What Makes Pro Fishermen Good?
not a single one of you said one very important part of fishing... EXPERIENCE. Lets face it, most of those guys have fished those lakes a bunch of times. The lakes used on major tournaments are a lot of times the same lakes. The pros have their navigation points, past experience, local reports, experience in that situations and many other qualities that weekend anglers fish for years to gain. In my case Ive been fishing with a boat for a very short period of time. Theres a lot of things that we know because we have done it before. MLF have shown us that pros get skunked just like us. that they make stupid decisions, that some of them without their previous practice, previous study and the variables in their favor they cant perform just as well. On the other hand, It has also shown us how good guys like KVD, brent ehler are. they almost always perform. they have an innate and extremely special ability to figure out bass. With all that said and my 3 months of fishing I wish and I hope that someday I can become one of them.

How Do You Become Good At A New Technique
Your analisis helps me a lot. To answer your questions: In the last tournament and my first the winner got 249 oz. I got 199 and i was 4th. 3rd was 216oz. On another tournament a guy caught a 7 pounder and another caught a 5 pounder. two weeks after the tournament I started to catch 2 pounders regularly instead of one a day like it was before. MY biggest is between 2-3 pounds caught with a spinnerbait. I believe Im catching juveniles. Im beating the bank. I dont know how to catch bass in the deep. Everybody fishes shallow here. This lake could have some serious bass that live exclusively on the deep and it is a deep(150ft deepest part) reservoir. I tried one day the Carolina rig with a 3/4 oz weight. I got 3 bites and I caught a 2 pounder with it. but it was a long day of searching for bites and trying it. If i should have stick with it i could have learn something. My best day has been 14 bass and it took me like 5 hours. There was 2 2 pounders there and a bunch of pound and a half fish. Im off to work ill post the picture of my best fish. not every fish is thin. I actually caught one today that looked full of eggs and she was a 12 incher. Huge belly for that size.

How Do You Become Good At A New Technique
I was catching bass in the 12 inch size all day long with a couple being a little bit bigger than that. Two weeks ago a lot of spawned out females were biting my lures. thats the only indication that the spawn is over. I believe that my home lake is a finesse lake. Spinnerbaits are very effective at dusk and dawn for a specific time frame. In the last tournament the winner, who is very good using spinnerbait finds them so inneficcient that he only uses them in those two time frames. He told me the Spinnerbait bite lasted 15 minutes that sunday morning. Ive been able to catch a couple scattered bass with spinnerbait but it wasnt as effective or consistent as the sliders are. Same as the shakey head but both those techniques I was fishing them with braid. In this lake I was told that braid is a big no-no since its a very clear lake. So no consistent big bass. Lakes are full of 12 inchers. The fish are very selective. Also they switch moods very fast from not biting to biting or the other way around. Biggest bass ive heard being caught here is 7 pounder. 264 acres reservoir with NO weeds and steep shores. A lot of rocky areas and red clay. Hopefully Ill fish tomorrow and if I do ill fish a shakey heads and crankbaits on those areas that are consistently giving me bites.

How Do You Become Good At A New Technique
So much good information here that Im reading this a couple more times. Fortunately The 3 months I mention Ive been fishing, its with a boat. Here in PR theres no winter so I can fish any time i want. I have a MH baitcaster that I use mostly for spinnerbaits and a 4 M spinning setups. THE BAITMONKEY HAS ME. Ive bought a ton of baits that I HONESTLY dont know how to fish properly. Im here to learn!!! Sam I do want to be the best. I dream of moving to the states(Texas or Alabama) start working on anything while I pursue my dream of being a tournament pro. Im 30 so im hitting the lake hard trying to catch up. I fished my first local tournament a couple weeks ago and finished 4th using the slider heads and small plastics. Im moving more towards becoming a finesse fisherman and learning more techniques is my aim for now. so the first techniques I want to learn properly is Shakey head, Drop shot and crankbaits. Dont get me wrong, I fish because I love the challenge, its fun and its a great way to get relaxing time in my life. I appreciate the time you guys took to help me!!!

How Do You Become Good At A New Technique
And let me be a little more broad in the question: How do you become good at a new technique when you already have a technique that is extremely effective? Im very good at fishing a very specific slider head rig. Im 9 fish from getting my first milestone in a year of 100 bass and i have only fished 3 months and almost every bass have come from that rig. I used to fish the shakey head with awfully wrong line for my clear lake. I caught 2 fish a day with that rig and I believe that it was great coming from shore fishing and using braid. Ive made a huge change in my fishing style and I certainly dont want to become a one trick pony. the problem is, every time I start fishing something new the desire to catch fish overwhelms me and I go back to the slider heads. This technique was taught to me by other angler. Unfortunately I dont have anyone else that can teach me anything new. So I have to learn it by myself. I already know what the good spots are in the lake. I want to become good at new rigs or techniques. I know Im decent with spinnerbaits but since I found out about how ineffective they are most of the day Ive stop throwing them. Should I just leave those at home and grind it out with anything else I have(a lot of lures btw)? I want to get good at shakey heads, drop shot and crankbaits specifically squarebills. Two of those techniques involve fishing slow. arrrgg its painful just thinking about it but I guess Ill have to endure some skunks in order to get better. How do you guys do it?

My First Tournament Was A Success!!!
I have a couple friends in a local club. They have invited me to a couple tournaments and finally I had the days off to go. It was 2 days, 6 hours per day. I absolutely sucked in the night fishing times. I did very well in the day fishing parts catching 20 bass total, upping my years total to 69. I had been away from fishing for a month with a broken car. I lost the best fish of the day. around 3 2 pounders. This is a numbers lake. The rare hog is a 7 pounder and they are very rare. most of the fish were 1-2 pounders. I finished 4th out of 11. Me being a rookie beat on most of the older guys in the club. I was really happy and they liked me enough to want me in their club. Overall it was a great weekend.

Sunked 4 Days In A Row
Here is what I do when the bite is tough: First of all Flourocarbon. It is the single most important thing in my whole setup. 4# for small grubs 8-10# for other plastics. Try smaller baits. Soft plastics on small hooks, small senkos(3-4 inchers). In other words FINESSE!!! SLOW DOWN. By slow down I mean moving the bait not more than 2 inches in places you know hold fish. 2 inches and long wait periods are the difference between catching one(even if its a dink a catch in a tough day always brings joy and knowledge) or getting skunked. If the bite is tough reaction baits are not the best way to go. EDIT: it also seems to me that you are changing between a lot of different lures when thing arent going you way. Pick a lure and stick with it. Maybe try a different stop with plenty of cover.

Major League Fishing Istokpoga
i love mlf. I started watching in the 2nd cup and I bought all the others. Better yet this time around we can watch it after midnight vs last cup where we had to wait a couple days. i will keep buying no matter what but I would love more texas lakes as those resemble my local lakes a lot.

Do Any Of You Put You're Other Hobbies On The Backburner For Fishing ?

Bucket Fishermen
Fish Chris when I was a bucket fisherman and I fished from shore I remember having days where the stringers had to be carried by two people in their shoulders. We could catch a ton of tilapia, shellcrackers and catfish. It does happen, fish move and for some reason it can start a fishing frenzy when a bunch start biting. I guess other nearby join in. Edit: As the head of the family if I was in deep ****, I would fish and keep my 10 bass a day and feed my family with it. also when the zombie apocalypse starts im gonna make an island in the center of the lake or sea and live off of it.

The Paa To Take Vote On Umbrella Rigs. What Are Your Thoughts?
if they all can do it, its not an advantage to anyone. I say leave it, but it may make for a bunch of people that wont fish anything else and will still do ok without that much skill.

This Really Irritates Me.
You should also keep in mind that some people(me in this case) have english as their second language. Yes I'm in a forum that is in english and I totally respect that but as somebody said, forums are usually informal communication. Im never rude towards the tourist trying to talk in spanish, I kinda expect the same towards me. btw the mistakes of youre your ect happen in spanish with some words and I hate it, its not that hard.

Bad Fishing Etiquette- Asking What Lure Their Using
I have a phylosophy for this situations. 1. I never tell bucket fishermen useful information. 2. I never ask how is the bite or tell anyone how it is. I think that asking how is the bite is something that can sync you out either way you slice it. If they say its tough Ill get negative and I will not fish the same confidence I would in other situation. They say its good and Im not fishing the spots and lures they are using and ill also start losing confidence and fishing improperly. When I used to suck and get skunked I would ask every person I saw. I also hate the people that ask or try to take spots from you or get really close and cast leaving you without options. GARY YAMAMOTTO should sponsor me right now. Ive given so many senkos out its crazy. they work decently. Not like my go-to lure but decent.

Would You Call In Sick To Go Fishing?
If you love your job more than you do fishing then great your job should be your priority. If not you should work to satisfy your needs and the need of your family. You wont take **** when you die other than the great times and the great memories and that is something you rarely get from a normal job. Like somebody said, Some companies believe they own employees and thats wrong. I could be sick enough not to go and work, but not sick enough that I cant go fishing. either way, every body has a different perception. Im scared shitless of dying and I hope that when the day comes and I feel close to the end of my being I can look back and say, Ive enjoyed my life as much as I could. Die in peace without regrets of dedicating my life to a company that a day or two after im gone have a replacement and have forgotten about me already.
