Two Bites Finally - Prjavelin's Diary Updated 10/3/12
ive tried the soft plastics once or twice but ive had 0 success with them either. I cant say ive given those a fair shake though. Ive been casting spinnerbaits non stop because they were working out before the heat went up and the levels started to drop. Unfortunately I cant get anything that floats yet so Im stuck at shore. the life of a poor fisherman. edit: Im making justice to my tittle of skunk master lol

Two Bites Finally - Prjavelin's Diary Updated 10/3/12
I have been skunked the last 5 times ive gone fishing. early morning , morning, mid day you name it. anything from places with big boulders to shallow to deep clay points. I mean anywhere its the same. I get nothing. In places where Ive catched fish before I cant catch a thing now. Im doing really bad. First thing, Im fishing mostly spinnerbaits. Second lure its hardbaits(deep divers trying to find the deep bass and jerk baits) The main forage is shad i think. The lake has clamshells everywhere and a LOT of them. I bet the population of shellcrackers must be very healthy. Third, bass must also eat some tilapia. We Have a very very strong population of tilapia here. the plants here are these: (both are always found in less than 4 feet of water. when covered by water these plants die) also these: here are two more pictures of two usual environments in the shore towards deep water, this is the usual grounds here: clay bottom, this is the spot where I caught my first bass. it was flooded then. now this is rocky grounds: this is another shell we have(lots of these too) that looks like a garden snail: the temperatures have been in the 90's close to the 100's degrees. I can see the bass splashing in the middle of the lake eating from the schools of shad but I cant seem to find them close to shore and I fish from shore. It seems to me like im either getting a boat or something that floats or anything or when summer starts my season ends. BTW the levels are going down consistently. its getting pretty low

Spinnerblade Sizes
I recommend using single bladed spinnerbaits. you will feel the blade as it rotates, it will vibrate more. try it! you will notice the difference.

Tips For Loops On Spinnerbait Wire
agree with smalljaw the best way is to use rounded nose pliers. I recently opened one of my spinnerbaits and it was all warped up. I got it fixed with the pliers really fast and easily.

My Custom Spinnerbaits: Are These Too Bulky?
I LOVE SPINNERBAITS. Since I started using them, they have been the single most effective lure Ive used. First off: I took a 4 bladed willow leaf booyah spinnerbait and started playing with it. Since I finally got my Lumaflex skirts, that was the first think I decided to change. I replaced the original skirt with a while Lumaflex skirt. It was a setup that I would never use they way it was even with the new skirt. I decided to make it a Single blade spinnerbait. I read that single blades can be felt over the rod and how many pros are 50/50 on it. 50% Love the single bladed SB because you can feel everything as it spins and it is true! I like this one a lot. I used a hawg that I cut to just use the tail part. what i dont like about it are those two flaps the hawgs always have. If Im not satisfied(in this case, if the bass is not satisfied) I will cut those flaps off. the other one has a lumaflex and a superfluke that i cut the tail from to use as a trailer

Looking To Create A Buying Guide For Our Members, Looking For Input
there are companies right now that name the rods after the style of fishing they are used at for instance: Skeet reese, g.loomis, a couple of the BPS have the style they are used for. Now reels are a big puzzle to us newbies. Thanks God I got a lot of info and help from some members.

Looking To Create A Buying Guide For Our Members, Looking For Input
My suggestions would be: Don't buy too much tackle at first. You don't know what its going to work on the lake you fish. What fits or don't fit your style. Buy a nice small selection that has a little of everything. Plastics, cranks, spinnerbaits, jigs... I may say two pieces or everything. Buy a nice baitcasting combo and a spinning combo to start with. From the books I've read and the experience I've got you gotta match the forage. Give the bass what they want.

? About Wfn
Whats do you guys think of shows like lost lake? That show is very good and shows the pros trying to find fish in unknown.lakes. I often think how many hours they spend fishing and trying to catch the fish to film the show guys like jP derose. I like the facts in mercers show. Knowing how many casts it takes gives you a bit of perspective

Trough Here Until Today...
what should I expect this will do to fishing if i were to go fishing tomorrow? will the fish get into a feeding frenzy after the bad weather goes away? temperatures are still very high in the 90s. So far summer sucks for fishing.

? About Wfn
I HATE THE FLY FISHING SHOWS THERE. they always talk about themselves like they are better than everybody else. I also hate the commercials about the fly fishing shows, I HATE THEM. I dont like the australian fishing tournaments. Those suck and are boring as hell(for some reason i compare them to the bucket fisherman just waiting for the fish to bite while they do nothing). just waiting for the fish to find you. I dont like the tarpon fishing shows either. what i like: Anything bass. I can watch the musky and pike shows but i prefer bass by a long shot. My fav shows are: Getting Schooled by JP DeRose Facts of Fishing Lunkerville

Bass Fishing Minority
in my family theres a couple people that fish. My uncle has a boat and fishes for food. He fishes for bass but takes anything that bites. My cousin will go fishing for anything also. My father teach me with live bait but he is not a bass fisherman and he is taking chemotherapy so he cant fish anymore. My mother goes one or twice a month with me but goes for panfish. I am the only one that is fishing for bass exclusively and sometimes i go for saltwater fishing. One of my coworkers has a boat. I live in a coastal town so everybody fishes in the sea. Im the one that travels into the neighboring towns to go to the reservoirs. (my parents live 5 minutes from the reservoir so i was born and raised there) It sucks though. i wish i had someone that would go with me every time. Specially my wife, i wish she would enjoy this with me.

Tough, Tough Day... I Feel Beaten
Since ive started this thing ive caught 3 lm bass, 3 tilapia and 1 catfish. Ive been fishing like this for around 3 months. I have been in the water for a LONG time every week. Last week I went fishing 4 days for a total time of around 12 hours. This week I went to the lake 3 days for a total time of 8-10 hrs. So far im way behind my personal goal. My goal was to catch 100 bass before 2013. Right now i think i cant do it. I feel like Im not progressing and im actually studying like a madman. Ive read 2/3 of the InFisherman series, im reading #3 right now, ive been reading the forums, reading the articles and watching the videos from here and the ones by bassresource. Lets talk about today: I stayed in the lake for a good 5 hours. I started fishing at around 8 am and I kept trying and trying and trying. I was close once cause as i was about the reel my spinner out of the water a bass went for it, it was too late cause i was about to pull it out and the bass left. I had another catfish follow my bait but it didnt bite. I dont know but even though i had these things happen to me i felt like i failed. I dont know i feel like i wasted the time, i tried to observe the little 2 inch bass in the water and what they did. I tried to learn from the experience, i got very relaxed at one point but it was frustrating that i couldnt get a fish. Also if the hatch is at 2 inches when can you estimate the spawn was? Important: I FISH FROM SHORE, i dont own a boat. Lures i used: spinnerbaits, baby bass crankbaits, 7 inch worm texas rigged, buzzbait. It was tough, frustrating.... last two times ive been fishing i havent caught a thing. I havent caught a bass in 2 weeks.

What Rod/reel Combo For My Style?
i think i havent been clear on this, the setup i want WILL be a baitcaster mainly for spinnerbaits but may be used for other types hence my desire for the setup to be versatile. It will also be my first baitcaster.

What Rod/reel Combo For My Style?
what about gear ratios ? 6.3:1 , 6.5:1 ?? 7:1?

What Rod/reel Combo For My Style?
It seems like im always a catching fish with spinnerbait. right now im using a medium light rod with a daiwa spinning reel. the combination works if im looking to fish crankbaits or worms but im always using spinnerbaits because that is whats catching me fish. I have being eyeing baitcasters for a while. I want one. So far ive read that a good setup for Sbaits would be a Medium heavy rod at 7 feet(im looking at a one piece between 6'7-7'0) with an extra fast action and a baitcaster with a 7.1:1 ratio. Things to consider: I Have to carry it in a car to fish from shore My budget is 200 with shipping included it should be a good all-around setup as i only carry two setups mainly for spinnerbaits though

Got Another!!! Soon Its Gonna Feel Normal!
So I went fishing two days more this week. On the first day, I was on the lake at 8:15 am and I could see a lot of bass around. The levels were decreasing which is a great indicator of violent fish here as far as I know. Right as I was tying a senko and a spinnerbait in my two rods I heard splashes behind me. It was bass flushing bait fish like 5 feet from me. It was 3 young 14 inchers. I went and cast my senko right in their faces and they completely ignored it. and moved to the left patrolling the shore. I picked my kvd spinnerbait and I casted like 30 feet from them and started reeling in. bam one of them got into it and I was a happy man. my box is 15 inches long. this one is like 14 inches. why does this fish has spots that you cant see(almost)? vs my first one in my avatar that has them and they really pop? second day the levels went up and the fish werent biting as much and were in much deeper water. fishing from shore was tough. i could see small packs of 3 bass together but not as much activity as the day before. ohh almost forgot there was a huge bulge of water moving while I was fishing with a popper but I couldnt get a bite. i also saw a bass and i was using the popper and she went to investigate but once again no bite. what Im doing wrong?

No Bass Today But.... I Got Something :d
I was casting lures today. no worms for me today. I used a rapala shad trying to match the hatch like Ike says. then I went with a kvd spinnerbait with a chartreuse skirt, willow leaf blades on gold color(because it was a dark day) and it comes with a trailer hook. dont ask me what size because I dont know. 1/2 ounce I think... so I caught these two things: Those are tilapia, fun to catch. that was the fishing I used to do with nightcrawlers. I never thought they would bite a lure thats bigger than their own head. I got one, once with a shad rap rapala.I caught these today while I was fan casting. I got 0 bites from bass though.

What Is Wrong, Where Can I Improve?
Thanks for all the replies. You are definitely helping me. The lake is a reservoir with undeveloped shores. There are no docks, boathouses or anything manmade except for the posts for a bridge. I've fished those a couple times already. There are underwater structures but being a reservoir those are in more than 50 feet deep right now. In the shore there are many vegetation all over the shore like overhang trees and small vegetation coming from inside the water no bigger than 4 feet. When I talked about money I meant I can't buy an expensive rod or a very expensive reel right now. I definitely need a better rod but for now I'm gonna use the ugly. I really want to get better at this. Thanx for the help
