  1. Pretty creative! Put some wheels on that bad boy. (like the ones on your grill to the right)
  2. mag brakes on zero, tension knob loose, so i'm thumbin'
  3. I use them if it's too windy to fish plastics (usually weightless) or having trouble watching the line and keeping bottom contact with light rigs due to chop on the water. Experiment with retrieves until the fish tell you what they want. I use a medium heavy rod for spinnerbaits.
  4. Welcome to Bass Resource. I live in the same area as you. I've been to Plainfield Fishing Resort plenty of times with limited success. Believe or not, I catch trout out of there more than anything. My suggestion would be google maps and subdivision ponds. Ponds = less people and not fished out by the bucketheads. I throw 1/4-3/8oz spinnerbaits, 1/4oz swim jigs, soft plastic craws/creatures, flukes, and senko style worms on 3/0-4/0 ewg hooks.
  5. Not sure if they heal, but I've seen/caught some bizarre f'ugly looking bass
  6. jig creature/craw fluke/senko I don't go through as many plastics fishing jigs w/ tailers as opposed to creature w/ bullet weight. Mend-It helps too! When my go to's fail, I bust out a white spinnerbait for some casting practice.
  7. Yes, me too!! (love the variety & versatility)
  8. Touchdown! Thing looks like a football!!
  9. I have the 7' med/hvy 7:1 non-micro combo. The Carbonlite feels pretty crisp and is light weight. With the ProQualifier, I can really launch baits with mag brakes on zero cent w/ 2 pins and not too many backlash problems. All in all it's a pretty decent setup and it gets the job done. Great value!
  10. Threw 3/8oz Dirty jigs california with a rage craw today on a med/hvy 7' carbonlite pro qualifier 7:1 combo from BPS. IMO one of the best combos you can get for $159
  11. jig w/ craw
  12. I fish grass alot of the time, so I like jigs with a triangle/ pointed head. They come through the muck better than a football head.
  13. Hi welcome to Bass Resource. Are you looking for a casting or a spinning rod?
  14. It sounds like Dobyns is where it's at! Been eyeing the DX703 actually. Megabass is the dream, can't wait until they start releasing some of the good rods over here in the U.S. But for the trailers I'm using right now, usually a paca craw/ rage craw, havoc subwoofer, or some sort of grub.
  15. Any of you guys have a dedicated swim jig rod? If so, what rod are you using brand, power, and action? I've been bouncing around with different rods and I think I've found the one that works for me. 75% of the time I'm throwing a 1/4oz KVD and once in a while 3/8oz Dirty Jigs California. I started off using a 852 NRX (too light, couldn't set the hook how I wanted), then I tried a 853 GL2 (rod wasn't loading the 1/4oz too great on casts), now I'm using a 7'1" medium/ fast St.Croix LTB and it is awesome! I already know that I'm gonna have to pick up the Extreme.
  16. When I didn't have a clue, I still killed it on a #3 mepps agilia and a small rapala floater size 7 I believe. Then I discovered senkos...
  17. I use Seaguar InvizX in 6, 8, & 10lb for most applications, but mono for topwater. KVD Line & Lure on everything. And I agree with Darren, I really didn't care for Yozuri. It is VERY strong though.
  18. I feel your pain literally. I did the same thing with an x-rap. Got it hung up in some weeds started yanking, it came free and shot at me like a missle. I tried to dodge it but to no prevail, took a treble straight into the calf. The bad part was that I was on vacation in Alabama and did not have my insurance card with me (idiot). I was trying to get this d**n lure out of my leg for like 10 minutes and it wasn't happening. My uncle wanted to rip it out with pliers. Eff that, where's a knife? Red neck surgery it is then. Cut a small slit next to the barb on the treble and finally got it out! In the midst of the furry, I felt no pain... until I woke up the next day and tried to walk. Sucked!!
  19. Not to hi-jack the thread, but that bass in the op's avatar is a donkey!!
  20. Loomis GL2 854 7'1" heavy or Croix LTB 7'1" med/heavy - both are rated up to 3/4oz, not bad for spinning. There are others rated up to an ounce and up like Pinnacle but I have never used those brands before.
  21. I think Whalon Lake is in Bolingbrook/ Naperville but anyways I fish from shore there but I don't really catch anything over 2lbs usually, my best is around 2.5-3lbs on a 3/8 oz california swim jig off the first point that sticks out on the side with the islands. I've heard of hogs coming out of there including nice smallies, never seen any though.
