  1. In some states your limit and possession are the same. So you cannot fish daily and keep your limit unless you have eaten your previous days limit. A man in the local town would often go fishing daily , catch his limit and usually freeze them. Someone turned him in to the local warden who went to this guys house, checked his freezer, and charged him with over the limit(possession}.
  2. Great idea......A bank fishing section makes total sense.
  3. On one pic it looks 5 to 6 ,but on others 7 to 8?????
  4. I've had some success with a small jigging spoon or a crappie jig.
  5. I've found that how hard my hookset needs to be has more to do with hook thickness than any other single factor......Braid has taught me that a sweep set works just fine in most cases, and a cross their eyes mentality is neccesary only in heavy cover and a thick hook.
  6. THINK FINESSE!.......Gotta agree with the finesse approach.....Small plastics, slowly worked near any kind of weeds, wood, rocks, dock, pads, shelf, etc.....Has saved my butt numerous times when the bite was tuff.
  7. Loon are common here in northern Minnesota, but, beaver are the ones that will get your attention......Beaver swim right beside your boat and SPLASH that big tail scaring the hell out of you if you hadn't seen them.... Sounds like a 12 guage shotgun exploding.
  8. I have had the same problem with quick snaps.....They are handy, BUT, the line will pop off here and there....I just quit using them.
  9. YES it is cheating!!!!!!!!
  10. I've had game changing days by downsizing to a small 3 inch or so subtle creature type bait slowly pulled across the bottom. I use just enough weight to get to the bottom to allow for lure movement....Many crappie size baits will work.
  11. The structure issue is one that needs to be taken with a degree of flexibility,as far as I have experienced...I've found that their often seems to be a given area within or near the structure that is the dominant fishing holding section....I have found such an area that appears to be the same as everything around it, yet, always gives up 2 or 3 fish everytime I've tried it......Weeds, rocks, wood , lily pads in themselves often ARE the fish holding structure....VEEEWY, VEEEWY ,CONFUSING?
  12. Your worm would have fallen faster than his due to fluorocarbons sink rate....That also would have affected the action of the worm....Just sayin.
  13. I fish Mille Lacs several times a year......The general rule is , find the rocks and you will find the smallies.....You may pick up a few here and there away from the rocks, but, you'd be be well served to focus on any rocks you can find.....Jigs or tubes fished on or near the bottom , and a topwater pattern are worth a try.
  14. 7-27-13 Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota.
  15. July 27th, 2013 , We caught 22 Smallies, all over 18 inches,including two 19 inch , one 19 1/2 inch, two 20 inchers....This on a very windy ,rainy cold front conditions......
  16. Slow way down, and cast into the thickest bush ,tree, weeds, lily pads, etc, that there is in the area your fishing.........We worry too much about getting hung up , and often bypass where the big bass is lying in wait.....Speed fishing is fine sometimes, but fishing isn't always that easy.
  17. Sounds like a fun adventure...Lighten up MR. Headlights!
  18. What I was saying is IF the bridge was public property, and, IF the road and water are also public property, THEN the neighbor can and should cool his jets.....I'm not suggesting anyone lay claim to anothers property.
  19. The bridge and the water both should be public property, so access and being sued or suing should be a moot point....Fishing there should be legal....To hell with the complaining adjoining landowner.....Good fishing.
  20. Just watched a bass tournament on TV in Alabama....Winning weights , 5 fish , 15 lbs....In Minnesota you would be middle of the pack....Big bass 4lb-7oz, we normally see several over 5 lbs at the scales.....The Lindners maintain that Minnesota has some of the best bass fishing in the country with many more quality lakes than most states....May not have 10lbers ,but, commonly catch 4 and 5 lbers....Wisconsin and Michigan are much the same.
  21. I remember fishing a nice lake with an island. We were right by the island when a sudden thunder ,lightning , rain storm hit.....Lasted about 30 minutes and after the storm ,much to my surprise bass were very active and smashing lures....I was expecting to see a shut down, but, surprised me.????
  22. They get pissy because they wanted to do things their way, no matter proper procedure....I have somewhat changed my view of law enforcement since retiring , and looking at things from the outside...Cops have a tendency to get high and mighty with a badge on and a gun on their side, consequently not always living up to their motto "To Protect and Serve", but , instead using their assigned power as an ego trip to some degree....Of course, not all officers, but, more than you might think.
  23. Wellllll!....Looks who is talking about negative posts....No, don't need your boots on , I am a retired detective , believe what you want....By the way , Expressing your legal rights is not being uncooperative, but, being naïve and uninformed about the law and every citizens rights may be viewed as foolish.....If the shoe fits.
