I have no problem with sharing fishing locations ,EXCEPT for smaller lakes,rivers and streams.....In my area of northern Minnesota , if I stopped at the local watering hole, in the one horse town near me ,and told about the great fishing spot on any lake nearby ,quaranteed, the fish hogs would be out in full force the next day, likely going a long way to ruining the secret honeyhole.

Man oh man!.....If your going to be calling out those you perceive as lying , stretching the truth or whatever you strongly disagree with in the fishing venue, you must be a busy man....Now you say I'm a liberal if I don't call out someone that appears to be lying about a fish weight....I d**n sure mentally keep notes on such matters, but simply am not going to let allow it to demand an overt denunciation of such practices so I can sleep at nite......I consider myself to be rather outspoken , however have learned that in many cases being judgemental to the point of confrontation is often a waste of energy better put to use in other ways......These days I have a full plate of things to be concerned about such as, making sure I fish as often as possible, keeping my boat, rods, reels , lures,etc ready for action at a moments notice, keeping my wife comfortable so as to avoid "fish fights", living in a manner that respects people and nature......I try not to worry about things beyond my control like my Leukemia, Skin Cancer, Neuropathy, CHF and diabetes....Being right is sometimes a priority, but not all its cracked up to be!........Enjoy, while you can.......JMHO

I am following this thread and I gotta say I'm amazed that this subject matter is such a hot topic....Lets face it , in every walk of life, whether at work or play ,polotics or science, people are truthful, people exaggerate, and some people flat out lie.....So you are surprised that SOME have bass that strangely enlarge themself.....I can't help but wonder why anyone would waste so much energy belaboring the accurate weight of anothers bass........I stopped weighing my bass catches so they can be estimated as I see fit. A lot easier that way.I don't post the pics either.

I always take a new Shimano reel apart and DEGREASE them, as they normally put too much grease in them from the factory.

I learned that way to fish a buzzbait from Bill Dance many moons ago.....A bass hitting a buzzbait is usually obvious , lower your rod as soon as you sense the hit,reel up any slack line and set the hook...I rarely miss a fish now....As often as not the bass hook themselves if given that pause before a hookset.

Feel tap, reel down, set hook upward , fight fish , land fish.....Done.

I have learned the hard way to NOT grab a smallmouth by the lip when using treble hook baits....Even if you think you have a firm grip on their lip , the chances are great that you will end up with a hand full of hooks. Just when you think they could not possibly shake loose, they do just that, and , uh oh , it hurts when the smallmouth is on one treble and you are on another treble......Talk about screaming like a little girl!...I even tried begging the smallmouth to hold still just so I could let him loose, they don't care about your pain.

RATIONALIZE: To devise plausible explanations for ones acts , beliefs , etc , usually in self-deception.

Garmin has the 500 and 550 on sale for $220 and $282 respectively......A good unit and great price.

Remember that Largemouth are an ambush feeder, so weeds,rocks,stumps,wood,lily pads , instead of open water.

Roadwarrier, curious how you found the smallies in the middle of the river?

You have obviously opened a real can of worms there.......Think of points, inside turns, outside turns, and various weeds that usually hold bass as well and sunken trees or deeper weed beds especially at or near breaks in depth......Just a few basics to try.

I think there is a number of offshore areas that are worth checking.....There isn't a lot of depth change,but it looks like transition areas where bottom changes or depth and bottom or weeds vary.....Any brush or wood would be a good find....Any current changes things up as well......Watch for bottom or any change of cover, current, or transitions.....Looks like a fun lake.

I've always heard the same, fish before the storm.....Well , I was out in the middle of the lake fishing near an island and it started thundering, lightening and rain. Came up so quick we couldn't get off the lake ,and the fish stopped biting, but, as soon as it stopped the fish went crazy on the bite.....I was like WHAT?....Shocked me but I didn't leave the lake just cause they weren't supposed to bite.

Not quite the same , but, I'm fishing in a small cove, casting, and it's quiet as can be, SUDDENLY , it's like a 12 guage shotgun went off right next to the boat, bout had a heartattack!.....d**n! About 50lb beaver smacked his big tail on the water to chase me away from his den!....I mean to tell ya that was scary!

Never ceases to amaze me , but, every year some fisherman have to fish the last ice that is not yet melted in the spring.......Invariably some body pushes his luck too far and their truck sinks through the weak ice and sinks to the bottom of the lake......Not hardly worth it to get the last panfish supper....A local barber did just that with his brand spankin new Ford pickup, my oh my!

I woke up at 530 am and I thought I'll check the TV for a fishing show like I did many years ago watching Bill Dance, Jerry McGinnis, Roland Martin, In-Fisherman , and any others available......BUT, no fishing show....Bah Humbug!...Went back to bed.

Try a good cleaning including flushing the bearings with acetone.

Drod you better find an optional place to live prior to the heart to heart your planning.....You could try the old "Mayo Clinic says"about fishing being good for your health and a great stress reliever...I'd do this well away from the kitchen so as to aoid her grabbing a sharp object.
