  1. I've actually found that sometimes right after a front the fishing can be outstanding....go figger!
  2. I think that Bass react to noise in a different way depending on their location and surrounding environment.....Bass around docks likely are accustomed to noise much more so than a nonshoreline bass....I think bass in heavy cover are not as wary about noise, and the less cover and depth the more it bothers them.......I recall fishing from shore some years ago in a harbor off the main lake , and there was people lined up on the shoreline fishing, all sorts of noise, people taking ,kids hollering , tackle boxes clanking, etc.....I had made a cast with a spoon and had the lure reeled in just to shore front of my feet. The water there was about 2 feet deep with a slight undercut bank....I was in the process of lifting my lure out of the water and Whammm! , a 4 lb bass hit the spoon, scared the hell out of me, but I landed the fish.....I sure didn't expect a fish to be there with all the racket going on.....Just goes to show ya.....Noise is only relative to numerous variables.
  3. We call them dinks ,minnows , or babies....under 2 lbs.
  4. I have tried any number of fishing lines and brands, and have come to the point where I use only Tectan copoly, or braid for frogging or heavy weeds......I love the copoly because it is a small diameter ,very manageable , abrasion resistant , and strong.....I use 8 , 10, or 12lb and have no trouble landing fish , and can't remember the last time i've broken off....I have compared my copoly with fluorocarbon in water and the fluro is slighty less visible but not much less than copoly.....The difference in handling is so much better with the copoly , and I feel very comfortable using smaller line than the fluoro....I've tried various fluros and found them to be poor handling and casting ,and very irritating for the most part.....My favorite braid is Tazline, small diameter and strong.
  5. I have been reading this entire thread, and, I've come to this conclusion, after much thought , bass see whatever it is that they see relating to color , and, I catch as many as I can no matter what it is they see or how it is percieved to them........SOOOO.......I'm going fishin with the same old, match the hatch ,colors I've been using all the time, and you guys can argue about how and what colors bass can see........
  6. I fish mostly very clear waters, and , use a 3/8th oz charteuse and white skirt, silver blades, in or close to weeds, pads, wood , or any type cover available. I fish fast retrieve mixed with sudden stops and starts especially if near weed walls , mostly shallower water out to deep water.
  7. Blades surely do make a difference in lift, and, so does weight....Tie on a 1 to 1 1/2 oz. spinnerbait and you will quickly be in deeper water no matter which blades are used. Rate of retrieve also contributes.......I mostly use a 3/8th oz with willow blades in clear water......I prefer stained water as it allows more flexibility on lure choices.
  8. Good point Hawg Hunter,I've read so many different theories over the years that it does seem pointless as to exactly what their vision is, but, how bass respond indeed is whats important.
  9. So an app is not used on your computer , but , on a mobile device? Or a means of connecting to a mobile device?...I have a cell phone, is that enuff or does it have to be a certain type of phone?.....I've been meaning to try and figure this out, just havent gotten there yet.
  10. Just to show my computer skill limitations, I hear all this talk of APPS, what is an app?....Really, what is an app?...So manyterms thrown around is confusing to old folks like me.
  11. Reminds me of a mount that I saw in the office of a local business....I went there to shop and couldnt help but gawk at this stud bass mount....This largemouth was 18 3/4 inches long and 6lbs 2 ounces....You talk about a beautifully proportioned fish. Like a football! not a hanging down gut, just a stout dude....I talk to the man that caught the fish and he gave me the blow by blow of where he caught the fish , what lure he used , and it was as if I was there on this little out of the way small Minnesota lake with him.....Gives me shivers just thinking about it....Many different combinations of weight vs lenght formulas.
  12. Likey a larger mouth indicates an older fish that is not feeding as well, thus the trimmer body.
  13. Largemouth tend to be more heavy cover oriented and shallow water, while smallmouth like rocks, wood ,sparse cover ,and prefer clean clear water , often found in off shore locations and suspended. Similiar lures , but usually a little smaller for smallmouth.
  14. I researched every brand of polarized glasses I could find from the cheap to the expensive, and came to the conclusion that Solar Bat has the most bang for the buck.....Not to say that the higher end glasses arent good quality , just that how much better are they?....Solar Bat has good quality with a very moderate price.....JMHO.
  15. No different than using a spinning reel upside down...lol..Just kidding.
  16. Try using a drop shot rig .Attach a 12-18inch line below the weightless hook and lure with a weight on the bottom . Allows your bait/hook to be above the yukky bottom ,and in the strike zone without fouling as much.Works great.
  17. I think it's all about the current conditions such as various weather , time of day (sunlight) , different cover, time of year,etc.....Reminds me of a typical day on my friends lake. We usually do well and know the lake, but, that day we couldnt buy a bite.......We were texas rigging senkos and trick worms....I decided to down size to a very small plastic on a small jig. 3 inches overall long, and I just slowly dragged it along the weedy bottom. I started catching good quality fish ,and the bass continued to eat the small baits ,to the exclusion of the 5" plastics.......Quess I really still dont get why , but, it worked....Wonder how many times a person fishes over bass just by having the wrong size bait? '
  18. I love to fish bass in lily pads and mixed weeds, BUT , I have a poor percentage of hooksets.....I have tried to hookset fast, waiting to the feel fish, and just can't seem to get a good feel for it...I've read many times the way to do it, and watched videos, yet, am lucky to get 50% hookups.....I have no trouble with plastics, or most other surface lures, just those floating frogs......ARRRGH.
  19. Because I listen to the voices in my tacklebox.
  20. Your making this thing called fishing way too complicated.
  21. Makes sence if yur under 14 or over 62.
  22. Maybe the 6 year reference was meant to be the last time a record bass was caught there, and not the age of the bass.
