  1. rocknfish and I are on the same page here.....I would be tossing a weightless zoom super-fluke all days. The bass come out of those weeds and HAMMER this bait!
  2. I always catch smallies @ night. Its one of my favorite times to go. In fact, we have a club tournament every year thats a night tournament and its ALWAYS at a location that is a smallmouth fishery. Smallmouth fishing is EXCELLENT at night! Use whatever you would normally but adjust for night. Example = spinnerbaits(use black at night, both skirt and blade). I use tubes, finesse worms, crankbaits, grubs....all the same stuff I would throw during the day.
  3. I had a huge smallie in our tournament on saturday that I got to the boat 4 times(easily could've been netted) before she spit the crankbait out of her mouth. My boater had no net. If I had landed that fish, I would have won 4th place and angler of the year in our club. As it stand now, I am in a Major fight for AOY when I could've had it won.........I will always have a net in my boat. Even if I dont use it, at least I have the option. Wish I had that same option on Saturday!!! >
  4. LM= 7 lb (3/8 oz Jig(black & blue) and Zoom super chunk trailer(black) SM= 4.5 lb (2 1/2 in tube(green pumpkin/black pepper) with 1/8/ oz jig-head(hook exposed)
  5. slow & methodical for me...................
  6. Shallow Crankbait along the weedlines or bumping into the cover............
  7. Try a weightless Zoom Super-fluke. Work it on top of those weeds slowly and with an erratic motion. the bass will come out of those weeds to hammer this bait.
  8. Hey fishinaz.............You can thank me later for the little "hint"............Great job! ;D ;D ;D
  9. Learn to pitch and flip. I dont think there is a spot I cannot reach doing either of these casting techniques........
  10. What would be your strategy to find fish when the reservoir is being drawn down by the city? We have a reservoir that is losing about 4 in of water per day. Your main target species is the smallmouth(Are you listening RW?) Lake was almost full capacity in the spring and the city is slowly drawing the water out and now its probably 8 ft below where it was in the early spring. Suggestions?
  11. Swimbaits are not my specialty, but I've never seen anyone use one with a weight........If they want the swimbait to go deeper, use a bigger swimbait..........Now, as far as hooking the bait, you want the point of the hook to be sticking out the back of the swimbait. thats about as far as I go with a swimbait......that would be a good question to ask the other members of the forum.............
  12. Most of the time, a swimbait is used by itself.....much like you would fish a crankbait........I have never heard of one being used on a drop-shot. Now, when it comes to tying................picture you have nothing on your line @ this point.........tie a palomar knot with the bait that is on top(minnow/worm) and leave the tag end as long as you prefer.......(12-18 inches or whatever you like, shorter or longer). Tie your weight(or jig) to this tag end and you have both baits on the line.
  13. Not quite sure what your asking here..............of course, both baits need to be tied on the line. Tie a palomar knot and leave the tag end as long as your want to drop-shot to be(I usually like about 12-18 inches)........you tie the top bait with the palomar and tie your weight(Jig) to the tag end of the line. In my opinion, a 1/2 oz jig is a bit heavy(depending on the depth your fishing).......I like 1/8- 1/4 oz for most applications. I would go with the smaller jig..........I have never tied a swimbait on a drop-shot and I'm not sure your gonna get the action you need on the swimbait with this type of rig. You'd be better served to use some other sort of minnow bait such as a plastic minnow(my fav on a drop-shot) or a fluke etc...............Small finesse worms such as roboworms and Zoom finesse worms also work great.
  14. You might try getting him to start taking pictures. I think that sometimes people keep the fish as a way of "proving" that they caught what they said. I think some people need to have something "tangible" in their hands to show what they caught so people dont say "here's another fish story" Show him how to take pictures with something in the foreground to give it "scale" and possibly this will help him release his fish but I agree that if the fish are legal, there's not much you can do about it.
  15. Quick hint for you guys. I'm experienced in the drop-shot rig and I almost never put a "weight" on the bottom anymore. Why settle for 1 bait when you can have 2?? I usually will tie a jig on the bottom of the dropshot instead of having the weight on the bottom. This way, I have a craw imitation on the bottom and a shad imitation further up in the water column. Just a suggestion! The bass have taken both before. I catch a fish on the shad imitation and the very next cast, I will catch a fish on the jig.
  16. I would want to go to south Florida.......that way, Avid could show me the ropes on "real" bass fishing. We dont have largemouth fishing like that here in Colorado!
  17. You might want to check with the owner of the pond to make sure that there is still fish in the pond.
  18. I dont know where you are, but possibly the bass are in post-spawn and just not very willing to bite right now.......
  19. I agree with Avid. Until that world record has MY name on it, its still Perry's.
  20. Worst habit? Well, sometimes I am in too much of a hurry to check my line for frays and nicks. Cost me a good fish in a tournament last weekend. I am getting better with checking though. Lost fish will do that to ya! > > >
  21. I'm gonna have to agree with Raul.........Thats a completely false statement. I've had tournaments where I didnt start catching keepers until 11 or 12........The biggest bass I have ever caught was 9 lbs @ 2:30 pm. when the temp was about 95 degrees.
  22. I will offer advice to you anytime and dont keep yourself up @ night over the post. Who'll remember in a month? Keep fishing and most of all, HAVE FUN!!! ;D ;D ;D
  23. It's one of the reasons why some pro's consistantly finish in the money. Details.
  24. I think this is beating a dead horse............the point was made on both sides.
  25. here's one suggestion..........Try a 4 or 5 inch Senko wacky rigged. I have noticed that this will catch fish in even the toughest conditions....... ;D ;D ;D T-rigging the Senko weightless also works well.
