  1. Gold/black/orange with the blue eyes are a cult favorite down here in the stained waters of Louisiana.
  2. The Aquarium of Americas in New Orleans, La. On a more serious note, there is a 9 acre pond about 20 minutes from my house that allows electric only powered boats or kayaks/canoes to fish. I caught my PB (almost 7 lb largemouth) out of this little pond. It also produces at least one nice fish per trip!
  3. Looks great! I just picked up the wide crate for my native ultimate 14.5. I need to get my rod holders on and start rigging it out. Thanks for the ideas
  4. The Johnny Morris Signature series has a 7'6 H that would do well. Probably around 129.99. I think they are on sale on the website at the moment. Powell diesel may be a good rod as well. 69.99 or less. The new Daiwa Tatula heavy action rods are my top pick. They are normally 150 but can be had for under 120 through a site sponsor.
  5. This is about what I expected to hear. We have a local jighead company that makes a jighead with a rattle chamber in it for saltwater fishing. They have proven audio recordings with audible sounds under *perfect* conditions (aka tank) at 200 FEET. A small rattle. Again, this is under perfect, controlled conditions. However, it stands to reason that their technology should be more than "slightly" audible under water, even in the field. But hey, I would hate for this thread to go the way of the dodo. I will reserve my opinions on them until I thoroughly test them. Other folks are probably in the same boat. What I can say for sure is that I will be throwing it this year.
  6. Have you actually dove under water and tested this theory? Recorded it extensively via underwater microphone? Just curious. Inquiring minds want to know. And for what it's worth to the OP... I got on a solid bite with the jr size topwater walking bait in extremely muddy conditions last weekend. Did it help? No idea. However, it's the only topwater that did.
  7. That sounds more like what I was thinking. For some reason, steady retrieve made me think buzzbait, haha.
  8. You know, I have a couple of small prop baits that are the size of a crankbait but I have never fished a Devil's Horse or Chug Bug. I keep hearing about these baits from Louisiana boys, maybe I should pick up a few! Mr. Catt, when you say steady retrieve, you mean like fishing a buzzbait or ribbit? Toss it out and start reeling back slowly, letting those props just cause a racket? I appreciate all the input this far everyone. I agree completely on surface conditions, and clarity probably had the same effects. I had many fish chase the Pro Sizzle Jr almost like a shallow water redfish, boiling and making a wake behind it, but they definitely missed a good bit when I was walking it. Maybe the muddy water was messing with their target acquisition. Walking it steadily was what produced the bites, though!
  9. Hey guys. I just wanted to see what opinion folks had about throwing topwaters in different water clarity situations. I got on an odd topwater bite in muddy (less that 6 inch visibility, of all things) water last weekend and was honestly a bit surprised. The water in the places I fish is never perfectly clear to begin with, but I have never had a lot of problems with the typical poppers, walking baits, frogs, buzzbaits, etc. now, I understand that topwaters this early in the spring are a hit or miss affair, but there was no denying that when I found the right bait, the topwater bite was ON. However, I got to thinking about how certain topwaters may be better for certain clarity. Has anyone found success throwing louder buzz style toads or buzzbaits when a popper or spook wouldn't cut it in the dirty water? Maybe the other way around? An interesting note... The lure that got bit for me was a Livingston Lures Pro Sizzle Jr. Maybe the electronic sounds made the difference in the dirty water? Just thought I would ask and maybe get a good learning topic going to commemorate topwater season! Thanks in advance for your thoughts and time!
  10. I have one place in particular that a topwater mouse will outfish a frog 3 to 1. It's not everywhere, just one particular area. Maybe they see a lot of frogs? Maybe they eat baby nutria that are plentiful there? No idea. However, it is a noticeable difference in preference.
  11. Pretty much what he said. The D Pop 70 is an amazing little popper!
  12. I like to use zoom super speed craws or havoc grass pigs, depending on what I am imitating. I use the rage tail menace on swim jigs and scrounged heads, though. May have to try em out on the chatterbaits!
  13. For the current tab in store, the Pro Qualifier is now 69.99 with no trade ins. If you missed out, try and grab one quickly. This is the lowest the PQ's have ever been without a trade in.
  14. First of all, I would ALSO like to know who makes that rod, haha. That face is priceless. Mine would be even sillier if I hooked into that sow, I guarantee. This guy has some serious bragging rights now with that beast on camera. "Who has two thumbs and dock flips monster bass of a lifetime? This guy!" Congrats to the guy. Hope he sees this thread here and starts posting!
  15. Mr. Sam is correct! However, prime fishing time is here and I have just started bass fishing again. I cheated this year and saltwater fished during the winter. We have had some successful trips so far. Shoot me a PM if you are from around my parts and we can talk fishing and reports. I work in the fishig industry so I keep up pretty well on the good bites. Welcome to the forum! Joshua
  16. I have been a fan of the little biffle bug for a few years, so when a customer approached me the other day looking for these worms, I had no idea what they were. We looked them up and I guess I fell for the hype and ordered a few packs. Tossed a River2Sea spittin wa in for good measure before ordering. Has anyone tried these yet? My waterways are typically too snaggy for a shakey head to work effectively, so ill be tossing these bad boys on split shot and Texas rigs. They look good. Can't wait to see the subtle tail in action.
  17. Amazing mount bud. Congrats on it as well as such a great catch. x2 on peanut butter captain crunch being the best cereal ever made.
  18. My Curado I came with spare reds as well.
  19. The weather is beautiful down here as well. It looks like a small fart of a front is coming in Wednesday evening, but it's small compared to most this winter. The only thing I worry about is a repeat in south Louisiana from 2011. When all this "snow" you poor saps have thaws, the mighty Mississippi brings it south and floods all of our prime bayous, rivers, and even most southern tidal systems connected to it. In 2011, most of those areas were not fish able until the end of July. This year is predicted to be much worse. Anyone have a spare room and the back of their boat available? Haha. Thank goodness for redfish! Oh, and my work pond that I fish before/on lunch/after work. Largest bass caught from it so far was over 9 lbs.
  20. I use a rage tail grub and I do notice that it gives it a slight lift. I have used the menace and don't notice the same lift, though I do rig it vertically, not horizontally.
  21. Shakespeare! Just kidding. I'm a St. Croix guy myself... Though I am currently having a love affair with new Tatula rods.
  22. As curious as I am, I believe that this may not be the best place to discuss such matters?
  23. I hot glued the little legs in and have never had a problem.
