  1. Great fish! Congrats! I read an independent online test review series a while back and the most accurate digital scale was a Rapala, this one... https://m.basspro.com/Rapala-Mini-50-lb-Digital-Scale/product/10203288/ They were tested against known weights if various sizes. That one and the bass pro one were actually the most consistent. Congrats again on the oinker!
  2. I have become a HUGE fan of the Louisiana made Humdinger spinnerbaits, 1/4 oz. out here in the swamps and marshes that we bass fish in, they are almost standard equipment!
  3. I just use a Powell Diesel 734. 7'2 MH/XF. It does the job well for around 60 bucks, which is great, because a frog is on it 24/7.
  4. I also recommend the Boomerang tool. Have two pair, always come in handy.
  5. The Pro Qualifier will be 79.99 again starting May 4th or 5th, I forget. Can't go wrong with that reel for 50 dollars under the price of a Revo S.
  6. I have become a big fan of mega strike. I don't believe I have tried the garlic, just the original. You don't miss many fish when you rub on that paste.
  7. The one on the bottom is a Norman Thin'N. the one above it looks like a smaller version that I have never seen. Definitely Normans.
  8. I would take a hard look at the St.. Croix Mojo Bass Target Cranker. I believe it's 6'10. May be a good choice.
  9. If you live in Louisiana, you probably won't know there is another way without cooking shows or fishing forums. Yummy!
  10. You are probably doing nothing wrong. It's probably just a combination of dumb luck and lightning fast reaction strikes from the bass. Then again, it's bass fishing... Who really knows? Lol
  11. Maybe something slower? I would try a popper, broken back rapala, or hollow body frog twitched on the surface with long pauses in between. A prop bait wouldn't be a terrible choice either, you can fish it with short, slashing rips and cause a lot of noise. If the water is super clear, feathered trebles and such always help.
  12. Purple and Gold flake... Looks like even your Texas fish are LSU fans! Congrats on a good day.
  13. Make sure to rig the fat ika BACKWARDS to get the correct fall. Berkeley havoc backslide and a senko with a nail weight in the end, as stated. Skip a wacky senko under those docks!
  14. I couldn't even imagine man. We have had snow down here twice in my entire life. That was a one day event each time.
  15. Not 100% sure how to word this title, but my inquiry is this... What is your general (we all know it can't work that way, but in a perfect world) progression for topwater lures from spring to summer. I would guess that smaller, slower lures such as rapala minnows/rogues come first, then poppers, prop baits, and spooks in the spring? Nothing moving too fast? As water temps get even warmer, do you begin throwing even faster lures? Wakebaits, buzz toads, buzzbaits, floating frogs when vegetation is in full swing, etc? I'm kind of a two hit wonder with topwaters, and I am hoping to expand that this year. As of now, I almost exclusively throw poppers and frogs, usually in spring and summer, respectively. High's in the 70's-80's look like they are here to stay in south Louisiana. Ill be throwing them a lot from here on out. Already caught a few in top through March. How about you guys?
  16. Decent bluegill imitator possibly. Chunk em!
  17. I'm gonna have to try those bad boys! I'm a sucker for swim baits in the Louisiana grass.
  18. Ever do any research before making these kinds of posts? The BPS bait in question is 7.29, pretty much the same price as Keitechs. "You get what you pay for" is not really an accurate statement, lol. It boggles me that they charge the same, but hey, they look good. If they were 3.99 a pack or something, I would have swapped. If they were much cheaper, your statement would be accurate. They do look great on a swimming jig and chatterbait, though.
  19. I usually use a size 4 or 6 SS. Zoom dead ringers, roboworm zipper grubs, 4 inch roboworm curly tail, zoom super fluke jr's, elaztech floating 4 inch finesse worms, 4 inch lizards, 4 inch senkos... The possibilities are endless! I usually start 12-16 inches up the line. I fish it on a Chronarch 50e on a St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass 6'9 ML/XF.
  20. Fish throwing lures like that is just part of the game. I fish my chatterbaits on 30/40 lb braid now and the solid hook sets land most of the fish. Keeping it tight when they jump is key, but not always easy to do. 10/12 is a pretty fair number, I would say. Definitely 10 more than I caught this week! By the way, that baby brush hog looks good on that chatterbait. Thanks for the idea.
  21. The zoom horny roads are probably the most subtle of the topwater toad lures. I would also recommend grabbing some Stanley ribbits if you can find them. They will make a bit more noise. I have personally never used the weighted hooks, but I like the concept. Further casting and it helps keep the frog upright. That being said, after fishing toads for 6 years, I have never felt that I needed them. However, I really like the zoom horny toad hooks with the screw lock on the nose. That really increases the durability of your frogs. My father still fishes with his ribbits using 14 lb Stren and a 6'8 M/F shimano compre rod. I prefer 30-40 lb braid (50-65 for hollow bodies) and a good MH rod myself. My point is that you don't need to start with dedicated frog equipment. Ill never convince dad to use a 7'0 MH rod and he regularly limits with ribbits. Let us know how you do with them!
  22. I do like them, especially for skipping under shallow docks. However, I can't justify buying them for the price they ask vs how long they last.
