Braided Line Questions
Conditioning isn't a form of intellect its a response to an environmental factor, why do bass take food pellets? They are conditioned to do so, why do they have automatic food dispensers? How can the fish know that food comes out of this dispenser when it forgets in 15 mins? Why would you hang around this large object that drops things at you unless you were conditioned to do so. I am not saying a bass knew what a TM was and that it means humans are coming to catch, it just proves that this bass was conditioned to avoid that factor.

Braided Line Questions
My reason is I don't use FC as a main line haven't found one I have liked but I also haven't tried many brands, but I like braid and I practice knot tying allot and I trust my knots not to break, I have many times in the past lost my lure but my line to line knot held strong. You go out in clear water, heavy pressured river/lakes and catch bass using slow tactics using braid more power to you, but it is my experience you can do better with a leader. How many people drop shot with braid, why not do you think? We need to understand conditioning because bass just like most animals can be conditioned, you go to any pond and fish it hard in a season those fish will be much harder to catch, I have done on many ponds. BR has an article about a lunker fish that was tagged, the guy knew it was there but wouldn't hit his lure, he though it was something he was doing, it was but he didn't realize it was his trolling motor spooking the fish, the bass become conditioned to that feeling =bad=swim away. Why do bass eat food pellets, they are conditioned too.

Numbers Vs. Size
I love when I hear the trout eating bass waters in CA, it just blows my mind that stocked trout is a targeted food source for bass.. I want to fish those waters too, lol...

Was Out Yesterday For 4 Hours - Central Pa
Thanks for the info, its a big lake for me compared to my home lakes, 20 boats doesn't sound too bad. Depending on whom I get paired up with we wont have any electronics, we will use sight and temps at this point. The bass have to be close to spawning and if not they are at least staging, hopefully we can zero in on these locations. Plus a lake with smallies in a huge plus for me, never caught a smallie in a lake before.

Braided Line Questions
To the point of why would fish eat a buzzbait or a jig= reaction, aggression(territorial), hunger is the nature of our quarry, they cant reach out and touch something as we can so they use there mouth and get hooked. When your in clear water how many times have you just pulled up to/walk to an area just to see a fish swim away, its because they see you, if you give them enough time they can see your line as well. Line is not natural to them and is not a food source. I am talking clear water, water that when you wade in it you can see your feet just as clear is if it was on land. If you are not trying it and you practice tying leader materials and lets just say it brings that one extra fish you might not normally get, why not try it? This is for clear water, slow presentation lures. I prefer braid to FC that's why I use FC as a leader materiel and remove my leader it when the water is dirty.

Thanks I am new to the club and many of the boaters last weekend say they get skunked here. Its all about planning Check out the Topo2 in the upper right hand corner. Also PA game commission has a list of all the man-made submergence stuff and the railroad. However since I am a rider were they go I must follow.

Numbers Vs. Size
For me its a no brainer I would take one 7# fish over 20 1# fish any day of the week and I certainly would take 5 near that size as well. I would say you get to a point where that many fish gets boring especially smaller ones. If your learning a new lure or technique the more then better. This year my focus is on larger fish, my mentality changed recently in part because of this AWESOME site.

Awesome that's were we are heading this weekend, jerkbait fishing is certainly a confidence tactic for me. I have never been to this lake any recommendations, I will be a rider on someones boat.? I tired jerkbait in the early AM at walker lake and only manage to loose a dink.

Where did you fish, we hit up Walker lake and the fish had some tight lips there, I caught them on a jig and chatterbait, one fish went 4#s.

Veritas Crooked
These rods are a catch 22 for me, I like them better then my St Croix of near equal value but the quality isn't close to St Croix. On my first order the guides were cracked, sent it back and got a new one and so far its been great but I don't think its going to last the 15-20 years that my St Croix have. I like them better because of, weight, sensitivity and looks they go well with my stradics. I have heard that Abu CS is very good so hit them and see.

Megastrike Evolution Jigs
Thanks Bobby/RW, it sounds like I got the EVO because there is allot of lead on this thing, its funny its the only jig that stands up in my plano box. I don't think I will be trying it in heavy cover but sounds like a good deal on the rocks which I am hoping this lake is. I normally use zoom chunks on my jigs but I don't see them working very well on this jig? Cant wait to try this out...

Megastrike Evolution Jigs
I purchase a set of these jigs and I am very excited to give them a try this weekend, these jigs are not like any I have fished before so I have a few questions. What is a good trailer, I was thinking a rage craw? I will admit that I am a bit concerned as It looks like it will get hung up allot and I am fishing an area that is new to me so I have no idea what the bottom is like, so is there anything I should avoid with this jig IE; rocks, wood? I am hoping the fish will be in spawn and I can try it in a bed.

Braided Line Questions
Fish can see line and depending on where you fish they will be more aware of it and avoid it, you see the pros do it for reason. In my local area I have seen fish be spooked from white fireline 10# test. In ultra clear water and or heavy pressured water in my opinion a transparent leader will up your catch rate. On my gear I use 8-10# braid with a 6-8# leader typically FC using a modified albright, the leader materiel roughly the length of the rod, but can go much shorter.

Brain Fart... How Long Is Your Leader?
I do and the reason is versatility, when I fish the bank I only carry two rods/reels and I need the ability to swap baits and techniques which can require line cuts and use(drop shot) sometimes at the end of the day I might only have a few inches of leader or no leader at all. Recently I started carrying some with me but I only have so much space in my backback and I dont like using it for a leader material.

Strike King 10Xd....wow!
Good question, I assumed it was the max the shad grew but I just looked it up and that doesn't appear to be the case, although they have short lifespans maybe the chances of going to longer length is slim to none. This was SS off a popular show so I cant believe they don't have the facts right, any biologist have an answer?

Pick A Jerkbait Rod For Me
Another vote for the mojobass, MBC70MF, very versatile rod I use this rod for my BC when pitching, to my jerkbait and crankbait rod when I use my spinning gear and it works great. I am thinking about getting in on the Dicks deal bring in any rod and get $20 off a $100 or more St croix rod.

Brain Fart... How Long Is Your Leader?
I typically make a leader from the last guide down to the baitholder, I hate feeling the knots as well and even with a modified albright I still felt it, so that's what I have been doing. Never thought to post it..

I always like to post this pic. This weekend I caught a bass almost the size of my jerkbait...

Red Lures
Jimmy states he was the first to do red eyes, copied it from an older timer that caught more fish then anyone he knew. I put red hooks on my suspending jerkbaits this season and so far its been dominating and these only DT 4'. This could be a conversation that goes a few different ways, lots of crawfish talk but I use red for baitfish imitation lure, red eyes, red dots, red gills, red hooks. Heck craws around here look like the the substrate they live in mud, rocks, leaves, I don't know of many lakes around here that have crawfish in them as they are typical to streams and rivers. Before I heard about what Cliff was doing I was dipping my craw type plastics in JJs majic Methylate, its seems fish respond well to this.

Equipment Beyond Your Skill Level?
I am in that boat RW, my 251 Calcutta purchased in 97 still frustrates the heck out of me, I need three brakes on and a heavy bait to be productive, really this and being a bank beater is why I have yet to purchase another bait-caster. Do I go all in and get the shimano chronarch or do I get a much lower end model?? I can cast this thing farther then my stradics though.
