  1. Your a tad bit older then I, I do remember gorilla braid and I think spider wire came out after that but you had to take out a loan to buy it. All I ever used was 8# mono stren until I tried fireline in the 90s I used black fireline on my Calcutta and now use white on allot of my gear.
  2. Come on now, your not older then I and while FC and braid may not of been popular for Bass FC was being used in salt water and braid was/is used in Fly lines. I recall when I was 14-16 using braid or at least fireline, couldnt afford the stuff I am sure when I was any younger lol.... Anyway back to the OP, jig fishing takes patients something I don't always have either but its fun when you get bit on a Jig, if you watch any bass torneys thats typically when you see the huge hook sets, its like a touchdown in football at least that's the way it feels to me lol..
  3. Depending on the conditions and since its still cold here I will use my latest catch which was just one this weekend on a 1/8oz hair jig.
  4. Tried lews didnt like it, went back to shimano, never had an issue with them, my next caster may be a revo simply because the price/features/realability are right.
  5. I love creek channels, of course since I am a bank beater I only have a few options depending on the lake I am at, because of my lack of an anti sink device, cover for me is where its at. If I had a boat I would love to be out in the middle of the water finding the spots in deeper water. A lake near where I grew up has a awesome cove, with a creek channel that has a long flat that cuts into the bank, I have seen numerous big fish in less the a few inches of water underneath these cuts . I like fishing wood be it submergent or above water cause I can use some of my favorite lures around it and still catch fish..
  6. I have fished all my life but I remember my first bass, caught on spinning gear and a "trout" lure, inline spinner, I still use them to allure bass now as well as I did that day, small Bass maybe 8".. I was about 7-8, maybe younger.. I think my first fish was a warmouth..
  7. Wading in the river and catching some river smallies..
  8. Didn't they quote his ability to win like top 6% during the classic airing, plus I know he came second in at least once in another classic..
  9. But that is why boat bottoms are white because the fish see them as a cloud, since fish know what clouds are, right.... lol
  10. If a bass is looking up at me holding my rod that means the bass is on my line already, sounds like your friend is having some fun.. With that said I do wear earth tone colors when I fish especially clear waters..
  11. They don't call him game face Cliff Pace for nothin.. I still wanted IKE to win however after watching Brandon, that kid can fish I would love to see him win some this year..
  12. Personally I don't own a scale and I am just this year going to bring out a tape, which I will be mainly using it to measure forage, but I don't like killing anything and while I never personally experienced a state record I would say take a few measurements with pics and release it. I just dont see then need to kill it, it grew that large against so many odds its a miracle in many ways, tuff call but your decision none the less. BTW OP that's a horrible photo-chopped image... Be aware cameras sign the photo with metadata as well there are many applications that can check images authenticity, but in this case all I needed was my naked eye.
  13. I am just begging to watching the Classic and it’s interesting to see the pattern Cliff Pace was on, deeper water, warmer water with a jig, different than the rest of the anglers, I know there can be multiple patterns but what I like about his pattern is how it highlights yet another pattern a big fish pattern not just a getting bit pattern, which are two very different things. Like my pond example I was on a pattern for a small pond, 7 or so fish isn’t bad on a single lure, but I knew without ever being at this pond before I could do better just by reading the fish. I am just curious how the pros break down a pattern, really how most people try to break a pattern down, maybe improve the way I read the fish.. Most animals even Humans are opportunistic, fish are certainly no exception, however we know they don’t bite just to feed. Yes, calories expended verses calories gained is a major player but the not the only one and if it’s the only one you choose to exploit you will catch fish for sure, but you can catch then playing to other factors as well, especially the big ones. By the way thanks for all the insight and posts, we should have a pattern subtopic where we can post the pattern of the day for that person's fishing experience.
  14. This year I am trying Berkeley Nano-fill as recommend by my local tackle shop, I was looking at 6# but that was crazy small, so I went to 10# which is same diameter as 6# FC, we will see how it goes.
  15. Any stressful job can do that to you, even if its something you love, especially doing it as long as he has.
  16. This year joined a Bass club and wont always be beating the bank and I am excited about this, I hope to learn and do new things, I would like to try a chatter-swim and maybe a deeb diving crankbait.
  17. I need some help as I don't understand when people tell me that they cant catch bass on a Buzzbait and a Jig, every time I through a Buzzbait I get bite. Like so many lures is has a time and place when its a big producer, I wouldn't use it in the winter and I don't really use them in pre-spawn but that depends on water temps and what the fish are doing. If you get to a body of water and you see fish rising, if its somewhat cloudy or early and or late in the day, TRY a Buzzbait, make sure you do what BassResource's Video on Buzzbaits states, they need to squeak or you just wont get bit as much. I am only pushing a buzzbait because its a power technique, catches big fish, you rarely loose a fish and its one of the coolest things to see. Jigs where my weak point until I watched many youtube videos on them and read allot about them, they produce and they are fun as well to feel the tick, tick (bite) and BAM you set the hook its a cool experience and Jigs are big fish producers and you rarely loose a fish. To all whom haven't gotten bit on a lure, learn about it on youtube and take it to a local pond and test it out I bet you will get bit if you use it proper.
  18. I am near williamsport.
  19. Same thing, everyone around here calls it a crik, except me, but I wasn't born in PA and my parents are not from PA so I grew up with creek..
  20. I also want to add Rag Craw in there but no room lol.. GY Senkos GY Yamaminnows GY Flappin hog GY Hula Grubs Cabin Creek Spider Jig Cabin Creek Tubes Zoom Super Chunk Zoom Grubs RoboWorms Berkley Power Worms
  21. I HATED Stren FC on my baitcaster never lost so many lures in my life, Stren FC it becomes weak once its nicked or you get backlash and you create a tight crimp in the line. I now use it and Seaguar as my leader material and it does decent job as that. I want to try XPS FC heard many good things about it..
  22. I had a guided trout fly fishing fishing excursion last year and both Guides told us to use orange lenses, bought a pair and now I use it for all my fishing, rivers lakes and creeks.. These really can cut into the water have helped me see a ton more fish..
  23. That is a fine looking bass, very nice colors. That's a shad for sure, maybe a thredfin, you could try jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and chatter baits in that color.. Sounds like Post Spawn to me but up here my lakes and such are still frozen so its hard to say, do you see any beds and or bass near the fry? Many articles on this site for post spawn patterns but I would be matching the hatch. Top water February lol crazy, anyway you could also try a Rebel Pop-R, I fish a lake where only topwater I can get bite on is a chuger style bait.
  24. Really your missing out on fish if you don't try a Buzzbait, no bait that I know of can imitate its squeak and bubbles and bass key in on this. To each there own but a Buzzbait bite is something you need to experience as a angler, the first fish I every caught on a Buzzbait smashed the bait like a train it was and still is an awesome sight to see.. I have had times where the fish wanted the profile of a Jig, and nothing else worked, jigs were my weak point not that long ago and I tell you what they put fish in the boat and I don't recall a fish I missed with a jig of recent. Spinnerbaits what can I say it was the bait I grew up on defiantly a confidence bait for me.
