  1. For over 60 years fishing bayous, the white spinnerbait (1/4 oz) is a numbers bait for me!
  2. Wow! Great research, Kevin! I'm glad that 2 of the 3 seem pretty good. At the price I paid ( $2.99 each) they certainly fulfilled THAT expectation, which I admit was very low. My bait buying these days are focused only on those that I actually CATCH fish with. I don't have time to mess with unproductive lures. Today I caught bass on a Gold/black back 300 Chubby AC Shiner that I just got from the makers. Also on a Black/Blue Baby Rage Craw on a 1/8 Shaky hook. ( plus one 3 pound Choupique that swallowed the Rage Craw) My next tryout will be the Zoner 55S crank ( Wiggle Wart Look alike)I just received from Russia! Looks good! Looks better than the original. But will it catch fish for me? Stay tuned! Thanks for the write up! Well worth the sending of the baits!
  3. I'm looking hard at that 11# Defiier too. May order some soon. Be perfect on a 50Conquest for jerk baits.
  4. I have an Avid and a Legend Elite. BOTH of them are stiffer than their ratings and I had to adjust what I was planning to use them for. Thats why , yesterday ,I ordered an Inshore Gulf Coast Rod one action LOWER than I wanted . Quite a savings on that Rod directly from St Croix. $150 for a $300 Rod!
  5. On the St Croix sale at their website you can purchase an Inshore Gulf Coast model ( 2015 model) which runs $300 but is on a discontinued sale for $150 shipped. Best deal I found and ordered mine today shipping free. I believe there are 3 models left.
  6. Just today my local tackle dealer was telling me he caught a few bass a couple of days ago on a black/ blue Mr Twister beaver type plastic with a SNELL TIED VMC straight shank Flipping 3/0 hook with a 3/16 weight pitching and flipping. 17 lb XL Trilne. Just now rigged my Curado 100D and ----M/h new model 7'3 inch Rod with the improved one piece cork handle. I have 12# test Yozuri on the reel so I'll see if that works. It was a sunny 68 degrees today. Thank goodness I'm in the South!!
  7. We catch a lot of those in South Louisiana although I've not see. One that big. Usually run in large schools of same size and love Gay Blades . silver Buddies and Little George's we sometimes call them "Yellow bass" as they have a golden sheen to them. Fun to catch and eat!
  8. Kevin 22, Congratulations on winning the 3 lure prize! PM me your address and I'll get them out to you. Just let me know how they work out for you.
  9. I see my generous nature has already been rewarded by the mailman this morning. By receiving a Majorcraft Zoner 55 from Maguro Pro shop in Europe. Fantastic looking crank! I should have ordered 3! also 5 assorted Bagley Killer Bs that are from an eBay dealer. So far the day is looking good!
  10. Since I don't want to go thru the trouble of explaining why I'm giving something away, I'll just offer them here. 2 of the 3 I haven't tried. They might be good. I just don't need to find out. So if you are reading this thread, first "I'll take them" here will get them. Then at least I can walk away feeling "generous!" LOL!
  11. Deak, you are right! Once you drive Porsches , you can't go back to a Dawoo! Since I consider you my friend, I'll make a special deal just for you! I'll send you the 3 if you send me ONE Bandit crankbait. Water still hard where you are?
  12. How did they work out? Well, unlike you poor guys in the northern US, our water remains liquid so I went down to the pier and put on a brand new KDS 1.5. First 5 casts I was thinking, nice bait runs true, rattles, floats up when stopped. On the 6th cast I paused it and it wouldn't rise, thought it was hung up. But it wasn't. On the rest of the retrieve, it acted sluggish and felt heavy. Next cast, let it sit. It sank quickly. Brought it close and pulled it to top. Watched it sink. Examined it and it looked ok but would not float or run well. I also bought a 2.0 and a Vision lookalike. Will try those tomorrow. But at this moment I'll sell the 3 (2 unused) for $7.00 shipped! Any takers? I'll mail them in the morning. I'm one and done. I use bothe LC RC 1.5 and Megabass Visions. Have fished maybe 10 of each and had NO issues with ANY of them. Perhaps I just got one bad one.
  13. I've been using the Megabass Griffin for years with excellent results. Casts very well on a Med light rod and 50 size reel. My fav is the crackle Chartreuse, lime and orange throat Yes it's expensive! Personally I've not noticed other fisherman using it here. Many use a Bandit 100 in the swamps. Don't want to go too deep. And.....the Griffin will hang on lay downs more often. So I've got to be precise in my casts.
  14. We have a legendary bluegill master here inSE Louisiana. J B Salter. Makes his own fiberglass poles about 10 feet long. Tiny guides and 8 lb Flourescent yellow line spooled on a small plastic reel. Small specially teardrop weighted gold hook with a cricket. Swing out and watch it sink on a slack line. When it twitches, you have one. Fantastic elder fisherman.
  15. I agree with Bagwell. I'm a sunglasses dude! I have Costas, Maui Jim, Wiley X, Original Rayban, Persol and many others. I worked Police Patrol and wore the Wiley's on duty to protect me from flying glass debris from shot out windshield, the ones with a rubber gasket for motorcycle riding, and the gradient style for a stylish look. Several pIr of Mauis:. Aviator style and brown lens and dark gray lens. All are glass and light but a little fragile. Maui replaces lens for about $70. Wiley's are a polycarbonate which is tough. But DO scratch. Ballistic protection is its strong suit. Several pair of Costas. Tried the 580p and are very light and stylish but fragile frames. The 580G glass models win over Maui because of crispness and clarity. Green Mirror is my fav all around. But Blue mirror for ventures in salt water vintage B&L lens Raybans for nostalgia look Wayfarer and Clubman are my favs i believe ONE pair of sunglasses does NOT perform ALL your situations and I hate threads touting "I got cheaper sunglasses than you!! Nah Nah!" Would you buy a Pacemaker for your heart because you can get a really cheap one? I'm not above aesthetics as I have some "Steve McQueen Persols" that are foldable so can keep one in my shirt pocket Wiley is excellent for you guys with fast boats sticks and sand and tree limbs have bounc d off mine easily where a Maui would have shattered and put glass in my eye When I get to where I was running, the Costa 580Gs come on
  16. I'm trying a couple too. On sale now for $2.99! I'm not really concerned if the act and run different from originals. Maybe their difference is that little one that triggers a bite.
  17. The only reason I ever go is a BISONBURGER and a draft Blue Moon. Or Samantha my favorite drink maker, makes me her special MARGARITA. All other stuff comes off Internet.
  18. I have the NRX 893 and the Legend Elite, but in a 6'6" since it was on sale at Sr Croix for $250 shipped. Just started jig fishing. I use the NRX for pitching 1/4oz jigs and creature baits and the Elite for casting 1/2 oz Brauer Structue jigs into heavy brush. I feel my strikes are best detected (by me) on the NRX. I think the components are better on the Elite but have no complaints on the NRX. SORT OF A "Plain Jane" fantastic Rod!
  19. So what's that color called?
  20. Don't know what makes them work but caught a lot of bass in Spring at Toledo Bend on one color only: Black back, gold side, orange belly with black dots on side. Twitch, twitch, pause(a long time sometimes). Found an old one in one of my boxes last week. Brought back great memories of Toledo Bend in its Heyday decades ago!
  21. Zoom Super Chunk Jr! we use the Sapphire Blue on a Bitsy Bug in Black here to catch largies.
  22. A big bass in my small bayou is 3 lbs! Most average 1 1/2 pounds. I have found these smaller bass tend to strike the 78 about twice as much as the 100. I also have several Vision 110s and love to throw them and watch their action. But, darn, the 78 Pointer STILL outfishes them!!
  23. Wow! Much ado about what the Pros use!! I suppose since I don't fish tournaments I'm a small minority that could not care less what they use or don't use. These people are NOT the "Oracles" that people make them out to be. Some of us are chug-a-lugging the koolaid!!LOL! Since I don't consult the pros I must indeed be very lucky to have caught so many fish in my lifetime. People like us actually come up with a technique or 2 by ourselves ( as mentioned, the "NedRig" was used 60 years ago in False River, New Roads , Louisiana!) and even then, it didn't catch fish all the time. A "Notched River Runt" was popular. Anyone heard of that trick?
  24. On your rec, I just ordered 4 packs for $9.00 shipped. I used to use these years ago with the Shaw Grigsby hook with a keeper made especially for tubes. Put one of those small weights with a loop , inside the Gitzit.
  25. I use a little artist or craft brush. Dip it in U-40 and apply it by rotating Rod in my hand. Top to bottom. ONE coat. Turn it round and round and spread out any excess. Make sure to clean cork first with Magic Eraser. It also works well. Do 2 or 3 rods at a time while you have everything ready. By time you finish the 3rd one , 2 will be dry.
