  1. Thats going to be an awesome rod for your purpose, you should really enjoy it. Just saying the FMJ is a great stick for jigs and trigs over 3/8oz.
  2. How heavy of a trig and jigs are you talking? If only up to 3/8 oz then the Daemos is likely the ticket based on what I've been told by Gary at Tackle Trap. The FMJ is a fantastic rod but in the limited use I've had with mine I don't think I'd love it for slinging spinnerbaits and it's a powerful stick. FMJ is money for jigs and trigs over 3/8 oz.
  3. I really like Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo line for topwater and a lot of other uses where a mono/copoly would be appropriate. I will also sometimes use braid if the rod I want to use has braid on it, or I'm throwing around a lot of vegetation or cover. Experiment with lines inks and see what works best for you.
  4. Right now it's my MB Orochi XX Diablo Spec R. Crazy versatile rod, plenty sensitive, casts like a dream, and not too shabby to look at to boot.
  5. Hi my name is Kevin and I'm a tackleholic.
  6. In that price range I'd suggest looking at the Daiwa Tatula CT. The PQ isn't a bad reel, but in my hands the Tatula CT is the better reel. YMMV
  7. Seems like you listed the ratings you want a rod to have, but not examples of types of lures and total weights of the lures you want to toss. Some more info like that would help. Also what kind of cover and depth are you fishing? The XX Jerkbait Special is a versatile stick and can handle some lighter weight finesse jigs and light trigs. But it's not ideal for a dedicated bottom contact bait rod. Spinnerbait Special is also versatile, but I wouldn't consider it as a dedicated jig n worm rod. Most Megabass rods I'm familiar with for throwing jigs and trigs exceed your 7' max criteria as well. All the Orochi XX are full handle and there's a few sticks there for bottom contact depending on weight and cover, but they'll all exceed 7'. Let us know a bit more detail to help. Also contact The Tackle Trap for great input on Megabass rods.
  8. Just my opinion and preference. While the LTB blanks are nice, I personally hate the reel seats the put on the current models. For that reason alone I'd stick to an Avid or Avid X and the SCIII blanks really don't give up that much to the LTB series.
  9. Check out the Kistler Helium 3 in MH/XF for those 3/8 jigs and trigs. Light and super sensitive, and they come in several lengths to suit your needs/preferences. I have the 7'1" and like the rod a lot, it compares well insensitivity to my Orochi XX rods and my higher end St Croix rods. It's more a fast then extra fast, and most importantly it has a really great tip for that casting ease and accuracy you're looking for. They come in under your budget and if you catch a sale they're a steal. They'll also work well for swim jigs, lighter crigs, and a few more things. Also in you're price range and very versatile is a Megabass Orochi Diablo Spec R, billed more as a moving bait rod for swim jigs and the like it can handle those 3/8 jigs and trigs no problem. This rod is another of my favorites. But it comes in 2" longer then your target length. It's crazy versatile so a good choice in a kayak. TackleWare*** has the previous version of the G Loomis IMX rods on sale, and if they do any kind of July 4th sale you can get them for a steal probably. Haven't used them personally but one of the MBRs should fit the bill for you and I've read that at their sale prices they're worth it. Another great choice would a St Croix Avid or Avid X in appropriate length and taper. Lots of good options ions out there and I'm sure you'll get more and more informed responses then mine. Tight lines
  10. Latest addition to my stable compliments of my wife and the fine people at the Tackle Trap, yes she is the BEST wife ever! If you're in the market for a high end finesse spinning rod you've got to consider the Megabass Destroyer Addermine, it's amazing. Awe heck let's show off the FMJ too.
  11. That's what I did on my CI4+ and it's one of the best reel mods I've ever done. I'd never go back to the foam barrel knob.
  12. Anyone been out on Manasquan Res, Lake Mercer, Assunpink, or Union lately? Heading out both Thursday and Friday. I expect a tough bite but if one these has been any good recently it would help me make my decision.
  13. Assuming 10awg is sufficient for your load: https://www.amazon.com/CES-Gauge-Quick-Disconnect-Harness/dp/B0057ZQJ12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497399658&sr=8-1&keywords=10awg+quick+disconnect
  14. Like others I like a mod/fast graphite stick for shallow cranks, well almost all cranks really. Still haven't found what I like for deeper cranks. For all nut the lightest weight squarebills I prefer a MH though, generally beacause im throwing shallow cranks around cover.
  15. I have the FMJ and it's a gorgeous rod. I got it for jigs and trigs and I'm very happy with the range of weights it will cast. It's light and balanced and crisp/responsive. Feels very nimble in hand. Ive not had nearly enough time fishing with it yet. The Daemos and Addermine are on my wishlist.
  16. If a small spinning reel or under spin reel is what you want to use check this one out from Slider. http://www.sliderfishing.com/Slider-4-9-Fishing-ROD-with-Reel-Seat-Mid-Night-Blue-Rod2-Rod2-49Blue-Reel-Seat.htm Slider used to make about 20 yrs ago a 5'2" graphite spinning rod with cork handle and no reel seat that you tape the reel on. It was intended to fish the 4" slider worms on their slider head hooks. I have one and it had a mod fast action to cast lighter baits but a surprising bit of backbone for a small rod. I no longer use it much if at all.
  17. Thats actually how ours will be installed, the cable coming off the head will be in about the 4 o'clock position. Thanks for the feedback! I'd like to go with the 55 but we are concerned about battery runtime with the higher power motor.
  18. After over 25 years of use our Motorguide Three 25 lb thrust bow trolling motor is dead. We are nearly decided on a new Motorguide X3 45 lb thrust to replace it. For how we have to mount it on our boat the head will likely not be able to be pointed straight ahead and be turned in he mount so the front of the head (non cable side)is pointing to about 10 o'clock. For or anyone with experience with the X3 or X5 with VRS will this work? Or wil the steering ratio changes of VRS affect the feel of our steering adversely having the head turned this way? Or is VRS just marketing gimmick and really have no effect? Any other feedback on the X3 would be welcome as well. We are so trained to the Motorguide foot pedal that we are just trying to stay with what we know. Thanks all!
  19. Found this thread on a search. Looking for a new front trolling motor for our boat and found a very good deal on universalmania's site. Have others here had god experience purchasing through them? Has anyone been able to determine if Motorguide or Minn Kota honor warranty on purchases through them? I can't find anywhere that Motorguide publishes authorized online retailers. Thanks
  20. Based on personal experience I would recommend something from Kistler in the KLX or Helium 3 line. I think the Helium 3 Light-MedHeavy would be a good choice based on specs and reviews. In both lines they have rods under 7' that are MH or lighter. Also a St Croix Avid or Avid X in 6'8" M/XF should do well. No no experience with them yet but a ALX also has options lighter then MH in sub 7' in the Zolo line and get good reviews. For small reels i like the Shimano 50e series, and hear good things about the new 70 series. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.
  21. Picked up seven bass on Monday at Rainbow, and two pickerel. 5 of the bass were 2 lbs or better each and chunky. Two were dinks. Here's the best for the day.
  22. Congrats on the new reel and the catches. I'm getting out on the water tomorrow for the first time this season. And the first time out with my Chronarch MGL mounted on my new Megabass 2017 Destroyer FMJ.
  23. Thanks fish devil. Looks like Rainbow it is tomorrow. Hoping for a good day! Should be fun to check out a new lake.
  24. Has anyone been out to Rainbow or Assunpink recently? I'm going to get out on Monday with my Kilroy and deciding which one to fish. I've fished Assunpink a fair bit, but never been to Rainbow.
