  1. They make the weed guards too long so you can trim them to your liking. I would cut that one about even with the hook point.
  2. I had heard there was going to be a merger. I don't know if Hog Farmer will stay a stand alone company or it's products will fall under the Missile banner.. I've been buying up some of the HF versions just in case.
  3. I have the 7ft3 heavy in the K2. I would say like all Phenix rods I've ever had; they fish softer than some other brands. I don't notice as much on the K2 but I have a Maxim MH that is close to Medium. I use it for 1/4 oz spinnerbaits and floating worms.
  4. The only CBR 843 I've had was the older GLX version. I never really cared for it, and I always thought it was just way too loose. Maybe for 1.5's but for something like 2.5s or a BDS there's just not enough power IMHO. Now the newer IMX version may be different but in general the 845cb is a more versatile rod. I would call ALF and ask one of the guys there. They are the best for all things G Loomis and Shimano. I'm a big Loomis fan but I really don't think the moving bait rods are all that special. I've owned the 843 MBR in many versions going back to the Wiebe reel seats and it is just a classic all-purpose action as everyone has said. But it wouldn't be my first choice for 1.5's
  5. As was said the CBR is designed to be a crankbait rod they have a parabolic action. I have thrown little poppers on the 843 cbr but it's a soft rod. The MBR is Mag Bass rod and it's more of an all-purpose action. jigs, worm's spinnerbaits and bigger topwater. The JWR is jig and worm rod which has the fastest actions.
  6. Spro Mc Stick.
  7. Manufacturers leave the skirts and weed guards long so you can trim them to your liking. I usually trim the skirt to just below the bend in the hook depending on the trailer and thin it some. Weed guards I cut to the hook point and fan it out.
  8. I have 2 Heliums and a Z bone. All of mine are the older NFC Blanks but they are great rods. If I'm not mistaken the new Helium and Z Bone use the same blank. I did own a new Z bone and I thought the new blank was really good also.
  9. I believe he is doing the flatside coffin bill that was the Wec Tapp. I don't know what he calls his version but the WEC that I have will run 8 feet or so.
  10. Again, not true. If you kink it, then Yes but if it just puffs up some then no problem. Honestly if your backlashing that often you may want to change reels to a brand with a different braking system or tighten up the ones you have until you get more proficient with one. I get it you like braid more power to you. Personally, I'm going to fish what I think gives me the best chance of putting fish in the boat and around here, for me, that's flouro.
  11. That makes it worse. If you fish a Ned on 1/16 oz head it will take longer to pull that braid under than flouro. If you use a long leader it helps but straight braid ? no chance.
  12. Other than walking baits or wake baits could you explain bait action part ?
  13. Flouro on anything I'm dragging and also spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, and spoons. Sometimes Mono on Crankbaits if I need some more stretch but I think Invisx stretches a bit more more than Sniper or Shooter and works well on the Wiggle Wart ,RK Crawler ect. I do use braid for topwater with no leader and on a spinning rod with a long leader. I can still remember the last fish I broke off and it's been 5 + years. I see no disadvantage to flourocarbon other than cost ,but if I consider boat payments ,fuel costs , marina slip rental ect. ect.. No big deal.
  14. I'm just not a fan of stout hooks on the ol' chandelier . If I were to use any it would be on the center hook. They bite that one 90% of the time. We can only use 3 hooks here in Missouri so the hitch hikers go on the top 2 . I want a hook I can straighten if it gets stuck. When you feel one load up on it just start reeling all the way to the boat. I started using the Yum/Scottsboro tackle deal last year. Great heads and the swimbaits are great quality.
  15. The best thing you can do is fish the baits and form your own opinion.
  16. Just a 1/8 oz. ball head. I like a light wire hook so I can straighten the thing when it gets stuck.
  17. You can T-rig the things on a weighted swimbait hook and it should help but I would think fishing from the bank would be asking for trouble . I'd try the Flash mob jr. You can just throw it on a jig rod . I would think your a bit early. Here on Table Rock it's more of a winter/early spring suspended fish deal.
  18. What ever 10 or 12LB. Mono or Co Poly you like. I use Gamma Polyflex . I personally wouldn't use braid for any diving bait but it does make a average running topwater or wakebait better.
  19. 100%. The Corp. has to protect Branson and the folks downstream on Taney.
  20. Bull Shoals has been 30 ft high for quite a while. I believe it's about at pool right now and Table Rock is 7 ft low. We need some rain and one of the gates at TR dam was stuck open which didn't help. If I had to pick the toughest lake to fish in the White River chain, I personally would say Beaver. You can have 20ft of visibility on it and without some clouds or wind break out the spinnin' rods and shaky head.
