  1. I would suggest looking at the Denali Jadewood series, either the 783 0r 843 , I use the 783 for jigs and t rigs, flip spoons in docks and it's also a nice spook rod...
  2. This time of year here on Table Rock I never throw anything under 10 and usually the 13 inch GO2 paddle tail. I don't think the fish, regardless of size are intimidated by the bigger baits. In fact I think it triggers fish that may otherwise be kind of sluggiish.
  3. Has any one tried the pixy on a jerkbait rod ? I was thinking it would throw vision 110's and even pointer 78's and rouges. I use 8lb line on my stickbait rods so I think that would give 75 yds capacity . maybe even throw 1.5's on it.....thoughts ?
  4. When it comes to squarebills I love balsa. The best I've found is TC cranks and Dave's , neither is cheap but I don't normally lose shallow running baits.

The best big worm I've ever fished is the GO 2 , It's a hand pour that floats. I've been fishing the 13 inch paddletail here on table rock on a chompers wobble head . Awesome bait . Stacey King won a PAA event here on it a while back, so it's kinda a not so well kept secret any more .
  6. I don't think 100% is any stiffer, in fact it's one of the best. changing to another flouro will make 0 difference. At some point it's the Indian not the arrow.. Unless your trying to throw a bait that's just too light for the rod, spool it up with cheap mono and keep practicing.
  7. yep, I love the Denali jw843 for crankbaits, I throw warts down to DD-22's with it . even squarebills ,just a superb rod. For me I like a shorter, quicker rod for topwater..
  8. After so many years of fishing shimano it's hard for me to change, I tried the lews twice and just don't care for them. under $200 I would either find a curado e or the new chronarch e , I have both and they are solid. I just got a zillion and I'am very impressed smooth and a great caster. I would buy another without question.
  9. I've never tried a powell , But the Murphy rod is outstanding. I actually like it better than the loomis 782 or falcon weightless worm which I always loved to throw vision 110's and mcstick's on table rock . Also it's a great spook/dog x and yellow magic or popper rod.. I fished another rod in the rosewood series this past saturday with a 13 inch G0 2 paddle tail on a chompers wobble head 30 feet down and was blown away by the sensitivity of that blank..
  10. I think the cumara is going to be being revamped. , there were some great deals on them awhile back. I would recomend looking at the Denali's. I've been really impressed with every one I've tried. Great customer service as well.
  11. I'm not a fan of invizx either . I like sniper or good ol' trilene 100% . As far as Tatsu I've not tried it but I have heard good things . If your experienced with a baitcaster I would say give it a try if not, thats a expensive backlash.
  12. Be sure when you set the tension knob you just get the bait to slowly fall when you shake the rod tip, don't go any tighter or you can force the spool shaft into the disks inside the cap. and like I said be sure you do that with the mag break on zero , only after the tension is set turn the mag break up..and be sure to repeat that every time you change baits.. The sx is the only non shimano reel in my boat , they are not the easiest reel to learn on for sure, they do make a great pitchin reel also.
  13. Are you setting the spool tension with the mag break off ? I've found the SX needs to be set like so... Mag break on 0.. Then set the spool tension for the bait your using , set it so you have to shake the rod a little to get the bait to fall. now turn the mag break all the way up and leave it there. and back it off as you get comfortable. Also you need to thumb the spool ,.. I really don't think the line will make a night and day difference. but the 100% is some good stuff
  14. Having fished shimano for 25 years I'm curious about trying a daiwa. I think the steeze is out of the budget. does anyone have experience with the zillion ? how would it compare to my curado's and chronarchs ?
  15. A couple years ago I was looking for a crankbait rod just to leave a wiggle wart on. I happened on the Denali sb843 in the jadewood and was really impressed. Then I tried the 783 worm and jig rod, I use it for pitchin war eagle spoons and jigs in boat stalls here on table rock. It's a solid jig/plastics rod. you could also throw spinnerbaits and spooks with it. The rods are really well made and sensitive and this is coming from a guy with IMX, GLX and NRX in the boat. As a bonus they are also super folks to deal with. In that price range I don't think you can do any better than the jadewood.
  16. I t-rig them, use them on a shakey head and carolina rig them. Good ol watermelon candy here on table rock. hard to beat zoom.
  17. x2 on the Denali Murphy signature. Just a great walking bait or Yellow magic rod in addition to being a great stickbait rod.
  18. I have it in the casting version, I use it for 3/8 oz jigs and texas rigs. It's a great rod as it should be.. I would't use it for anything over 1/2 oz.
  19. I'm happy to see the Balsa B back also..But I think Rapala is involved in it. If so I just hope they haven't screwed it up like they did the wiggle wart.
  20. Either Pete wenners (hookedonbass.com) or Eric Olliverson (ericseliteguideservice.com) . Both are great sticks on table rock and fun guys to spend a day in the boat with.
  21. In that price range I don't think you can beat the Denali jadewood, There is a 6ft 6 medium that makes a great finesse rod.. If there is any way I would stay away from a 2 piece rod.
  22. I always heard that the mossyback was a blend of gl3 and IMX. I have it in a bcr854 and also have a 783 in imx a 844 in glx and a 803 in nrx.. The mossyback in my hands is really close to IMX . It doesn't share the same rep as the other's but I have caught a ton of fish on that rod. I don't think you would be disapointed in it at all.. But you could always check with the guys at american legacy and see if you can pick up a used imx or glx..
  23. I've owned a bunch of crankbait rods over the years. I agree the crankin stick is a decent rod for the money . My favorite in the less expensive range is the Denali jw843. I throw the wiggle wart a lot here on Table rock and it's the best at it I've ever owned,. also handles the DD22 and 6xd. As to a reel I agree ,if you can find a E5 I would go that route..
  24. I bought one of the TFO spinning rods a few years back for one of the kids, it's not a bad rod but there is a lot of competion in that price range. I really like the Denali's or the st.croix for the money.
  25. There is a local guy here on Table rock that makes some great spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, but as far as store bought.. war eagle.
