  1. One tactic... I don't have the rod now but I'd probably throw senkos on a dx 743c Haha. I guess I'd just keep my lews tp in it. Line, braid to fc leader.
  2. I fish them any way I would a senko
  3. IMO if you can stick with the Chronarchs, I would stick with them. I use a Lews TP in 6:1 on my Dobyns 705cb for shallow cranks and catch plenty of fish. If I feel like I need to slow down, I can. I'd rather slow down than speed up.
  4. I like my Lews TP's, especially when I can find them around 150. But, like some others have said, its pretty hard to go wrong at that price point. If you can handle them or even mount them on the rod you plan on putting it on I would definitely do that. You can see how they balance and fit together.
  5. Not a bad idea. I could steal the brush piles with that and put them where I want them!
  6. I prefer cork too but I'm in my mid 20's. Am I an old soul, or are you young at heart? Maybe cork just feels better, haha.
  7. I'd buy a Berkley rod for 5 bucks
  8. That was awesome
  9. I do need to man up...
  10. I'd look to spend about 100 on the rod and 50 on the reel. Lots of good options out there at those price points
  11. That's more like it
  12. Haha thanks guys. I've never really fished much out of a bass boat. I'm mostly in my kayak hitting the shallow water. I didn't know how gnarly you might expect deep brush piles to be. I had a feeling my set up would be fine, just wanted to be more than sure. Sadly.... I was kind of hoping someone would tell me I needed a 745 so I could justify buying a new rod
  13. Looks good to me. See how the fish like it now
  14. I will be going out fishing in the near future with a friend that apparently likes to hit submerged brush piles pretty hard. I'm not sure of the depth where the pile are at, but I'm assuming nothing deeper that ~25ft. My question is, do you think my Dx 744c/Lews TP 7.1:1/50#PP rig will be man enough to tackle brush piles? I'm planning on using it to throw jigs and t-rigs around 1/4-1/2oz. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance!
  15. As long as its not the "super salt" or whatever they call it. The un-salted worms will float pretty well. These are the majority of what I use as well
  16. The only time I don't use a jig is when there is massive amounts of algae, or I'm not fishing.
  17. Also Powell endurance
  18. Replacing a guide is a pretty straight forward repair. If you can't find someone to do it, it shouldn't be that hard to accomplish on your own.

I throw 1/2oz red eye shads the most. My favorite square bills are the old lucky craft Rick Clunn models
  20. senko
  21. Just don't throw your bottle at them and I think you'll be fine
  22. Like BASSclary said, I wouldn't throw 1/2oz jigs on it. I would look for a heavier, longer rod for that. The 683 is a very versatile stick. I think I threw just about everything I have on it at one point or another.
  23. With frogs, feeling the bite obviously won't be an issue. I don't really flip/pitch in the sense of what most people think, ie: heavy weight, heavy hook, etc. so I'm not positive how those bites feel. My guess is that with braid you should be able to feel the bites, but I don't know for sure so I don't want to give you false information. Typically the Champion is the way to go if you need feel for bottom contact techniques. It's not that the Savvy is not sensitive, there are just better rods out there at that price, IMO. Just a thought. I've been really impressed with Powell rods and, especially since Gary used to be involved with Powell, the two rod companies are similar IMO. The 725 Endurance might be worth a look. Especially when it can be had at fish ranger for 150, I would probably buy that one over the Savvy. If you can go up in price, the Champion 735 would be where my money would go. Again, I really don't think you'll hate the Savvy and hopefully someone else with experience with the actual rod will be able to chime in to give you more accurate info. But, if you're primarily using it for frogs and flipping/pitching I think it would be a fine rod.
