  1. so I get to go to bps this weekend for the first time on fathers day. taking the family. I have been wanting to visit for a long time. my wife gave me a spending limit of 300 dollars. any suggestions on what I should look into. I look at the catalog and don't even know where to start. I really want a great jig rod and reel but don't think I can squeeze the one I want for 300. either a duck or abu with revo reel. any suggestions would be great. ps. love the site, great posts by all. thank you
  2. also, berryessas been hot, last three tournoments have had been won with 23-25lbs. all the camp sides are back up and running too
  3. clear lakes been great since spring but the alge is coming out. you could spend a whole week at the delta and never fish the same spot twice. plenty of places to camp
  4. ve been around the grass lines on the north and east sides up to 2 fishing from a boat or the bank. most of the bass have spawned out, topwater bite has been good early on the east side, fish have been schooling up the shad real good, i got a 4 and a 5 on rattle traps fish them out to the deep points, plastics have been good in the afternoon. fish the edege of the grass lines on the north or east side. most fish have been out to 20ft
  5. i get nervious about this alot after loading up the night before. had the guys at the tackle shop tell me they had a few rods taken of the deck while waiting for the results up in clear lake. i put all my stuff up and lock it. but dont think it would be too hard to bust into the rod lockers if some one wanted to. i see boat alarms in bass pro. but havnt seen any body that has one yet
  6. my new hero, i just held it for 8hrs last week at clear lake.painfull, hats off to you my freind
  7. find a topo map and look for deep water changes that are located next to shallow water areas. like said before rock piles will be a good place to start. normally marked on a map. late spring early summer also try those secondary points on the way out to deeper water
  8. try a small swimbait. i find if fish are hitting short adjust your pressentation , sometimes small changes can make it a great day
  9. been awhile but i spent a week at el salto with my grandfather. they had little houses at the resort and you were free to fish all day. not much for the kids if they wanted to come.

i used to fish ponds alot when i was younger, i know they get alot of salemanders out here, i would use a 4-6 in lizard, texas rigd and just creep it along the cover as slow as possible. any watermelon colors are an easy choice. hard up try a floating worn with no weight.
  11. find some places you like and slow down, always have a good chance in cold water for a nice fish. drop shot or jig would be my choice, great advise on this site. congrats on the tracker
  12. i like my boat, dont mind others. im just happy to fish. my only issue is trying not to sound like a richard when the fishing styles dont macth. still beats working
  13. i like to type in my favorite lake on you tube. always something good to wach
  14. well said mr parker. just started with my 5 yr old last summer, wish the first trip was from shore. it was painfull running my ranger at 20mph. but they sure get excited to see a bass. makes it all worth it.
  15. nice fish, i remember those days all to well. take a back pack and put a fish rule and scale in it. also a great way to brag to your freinds
  16. an old tackle box, empty. and some trout trolling lures. once saw my grandpa land a 500 rod and real at the delta. he was happy that day.

    welcome to br. great site
  21. there is alot of great stuff on this site to read, also, pay close attention to other fisherman when your out, note their locations and how they are fishing, try and notice a pattern if you can
  22. i would go night catfishing with a buddy, when he wasnt looking i would tie a line to his rod tip a jerk it like crazy, he would hear the bell going off and run over. watching him lay into the hook set like he had a 20 lb cat was priceless, some times i could get away with this twice before he would want to kick my butt
  23. they make some inexpensive portable fish finders that would work for you,you can hang it off the side of the boat. play around and see if you find some thing good. i would go to your favorite spots and move out deeper, look for any thing that would hold fish
  24. i used to camp out on a sand bank in putah creek alot in the summer, would catfish and fish for bass. i liked dark double willow spinner baits and hollow frogs. worked out great cause the bank was higher than the water, would always let the rancher know i was there, show up an hour before sun set and walk the bank first before it would get dark. then set a lantern out with my gear so i could see better.
