I am aggravated with my self.....i got on a school of 4-6# fish today, i hooked one much bigger than the 9 i caught. I think it would have been in the 12# range, I had it coming to the boat, she headed straight down when she got close and i had the drag locked down all the way POW & SNAP, rod broke then the line.......after my tournament this weekend i will give yall some more info on the pattern and area......more to come

i dont mind being the reason your on the water more catt! ill be the excuse lol.....and yes catt the saying older and wiser is true, ive been fishing toledo for 8 months now im fairly happy with my success , but there is 2 things in life that has always humbled me, golf and fishing. im not good at either im sub par, and want to continually get better at both....back to the fishing, i dont catch anything on worms at all! i must be doing something wrong, maybe its a confidence thing...and yeah if i knew hotspots on toledo i would fish the same way you do catt because thats what i do at rayburn, but im still trying to find my spots that have fish on the bend....catt ill come pick you up and pay for everything im all for an on the water class! i at least want to get to where i can bring someone fishing and catch a bunch of little fish...i have a lot of my a.c.t.s. brothers that want me to take them fishing and their kids i need to find some spots for the fall....

the pros anchor all the time, with that said most of the time its tying to a tree! and not with those ugly things on the back of the boat, i dont understand electric anchors you can use them 1 month a year while sight fishing??? and they cost 3-4K i dont get it to each their own.......by the way brent chapman won toledo bend elite series and he stayed tied to a tree the last day (anchored).............catt, i stay on the trolling motor and i look for the sweet spots on my electronics, i stick with jigs because of the versatility, swim, hop on bottom, burn, flip, pitch.......right now im looking for the edge of grass mixed in around timber next to a shelf. i was going to take a picture of my side imaging and show you guys but i didnt have a memory card, gave me the red a$$, but i now have a memory card so i can take pictures next time...i have a white swim jig, a pb&j jig, and a toledo perch jig, that im rotating between, i get bites but their taking the trailer 98% of the time, the big ones just swim away with it, you feel nothing...........catt, i want to get my dad fishing jigs, but he cant feel the bite and i cant describe it to him how can i teach him to feel it, any pointers?

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
i was using an oldhams jig in the same color hackney was using, with a green pumpkin trailer, i looked around for that jig he was using and found them on sale at another site for 2.99 a piece for the 1 1/2 ounce, the oldhams was 3/4 ounce and i had to work a little to get it to the bottom every time, so i want to try the 1.5 ounce see if it hits the bottom easier.....

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
FLIPPIN IS AWESOME i love punching mats just as much, when i hit that fish it peeled drag and it was all the way cranked down when he rolled on the surface i didnt know what to do i was so excited i figured out something new with yalls help, one boat had just left the area about 30 yards away, he stopped looked and turned around lol.......i was following a creek and saw one little patch of grass in 23 fow on my side imaging, stopped to fish it and caught him on like the second flip fished for another hour without another bite then i left and headed out.....i think this is exactly what yall are talking about fishing and flipping the isolated grass? correct me if im wrong? but as i went farther into the creek it was solid grass and so i just turned around because i figured i couldnt locate the fish because there was grass everywhere and none was isolated......im sure there were fish there but it would have taken a long time to find them, so i left and went and searched every creek on the north side of housen looking for the same thing......no more of these isolated patches....im going to try this on the main lake next time

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
yes i fish rayburn alot..... i mainly fish productive areas versus pattern fishing, i have spots where decent fish are year round and they dont move far, they have everything they need in these few areas, last year i worked on pattern fishing a little more and added a few spots to my milk run as fish are always there.....fish always there meaning i run a contour line ive chosen casting both sides and i always run into them....my main problem with toledo bend is when i find a good school of fish they are liable to have moved 5 miles in one night lol......which aggravates the hell out of me... where i fish my spots on rayburn, the fish seem to be residential meaning they never leave they just move a little bit at a time and i can stay on a school for some times 2 months not so on toledo bend they move and i cant stay on them from day to day i have tried the same approach following a contour line and casting around trying to run into them and using my electronics scanning..no dice...yes i have noticed that toledo bend is deeper, clearer, grassier, and stingier in the short time ive been fishing it....me and a guy won a little club tournament casting a wind blown bank and didnt know why the fish were there, 2 months later the grass that we were catching the fish out of grew up where i could see it and i then knew why we caught fish there.....to tell the truth im no great fisherman on a big body of water, we used to belong to a pond in beaumont that i fished 3-4 days a week and i can honestly say i knew where the fish were and how they moved intimately, and could go catch when no one else was catching anything, spending all that time out there i was able to figure it out all by my self. even on rayburn my success is/was from a good friend of my dads took us around the lake and showed us some things and i learned a hell of alot from him and how the fish acted and moved and got basically a on the lake "fishing school" on big sam rayburn for a whole week. i have been able to enjoy my fishing on rayburn with my dad ever since as i have never got skunked since being "schooled".......hopefully once my lake house is built, i want to have some sort of cook out with you toledo bend guys here on the forum and get to know a little more about the lake, so i can enjoy it fishing it as much as rayburn. then hopefully i can pass it down when i get later in my years.....i fish a few club tournaments but i mainly like bringing my dad out and having him catch fish. THANKS CATT for the fishing west of the six mile bridge tip i brought my dad out there and he had a blast, he had me 10 to 1 on catching and he loved rubbing it in, i didnt tell him i was throwing something different i hadnt tried yet, i wanted him to catch them on what i knew they would hit...he loves fishing the edge of grass/lily pads with a worm, thats his favorite as he has been doing it longer than ive been alive......later in the day i try to go fishing deeper and he cant feel the bite on a carolina rig or a jig so i try to go where he can tear up those little fish...when i go deeper is usually when he kicks back for nap time

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
what do you look for when flipping grass? do you run ditches or edges flipping? stay at a certain depth contour, or look for openings with electronics? any preferential depths? do you only flip hydrilla? do you only flip when you know there is timber around the hydrilla? what depth do you look for ex....the water is 15 feet deep and the grass tops out at 12 feet leaving 3 feet of water on top the grass, or do you look for 20 feet deep where grass tops out at 12 feet leaving 8 feet of water on top of grass?
