  1. Great post. It's nice every once in a while to just crack open a cold one and watch a bobber. I don't think I'll ever get tired of catching bluegill using that method.
  2. I bought a bunch of red Gamakatsu hooks last year. As far as I can tell, they catch just as many fish but no more.
  3. I have 2 fishing games on Xbox 360 Rapala tournament fishing: I played it for about 15 minutes the first day, and I think it sucks. Definitely would not recommend it. And Bass Pro Shops The Strike: I liked this one a lot and have gotten quite a few hours of fun out of playing it. I would recommend this one if you get a 360. However, I'm going to assume your daughter probably had the brand new Xbox One in mind when she said she wanted an Xbox.
  4. What did you catch him on?
  5. Another Cardinals fan here Welcome to BR
  6. For $500, you could get the Pfleuger Patriarch and still have $300 left to get a nice rod. St. Croix has several nice ones to choose from.
  7. I've made a few small purchases online. I also got a $100 gift card to Bass Pro for Christmas and already spent most of it on lures, hooks, weights, etc. And I just started to save up for my next rod n reel.
  8. So far, fishing hasn't had any negative impact on any of my relationships. I have close friends who have no interest in fishing, so with them I just talk about/do other things. I have other friends who do like to fish, and I really think that fishing has brought us closer together. Not only does it give us something to talk about, it also gives us a good excuse to get together and hang out and bond. During the time since I've gotten back into fishing, I haven't been in a serious romantic relationship, so the effects of fishing on that type of relationship remain to be seen. In retrospect, getting back into fishing a couple of years ago was probably a way of coping with a bad breakup I was going through, and it helped. Also, last spring I was camping and fishing with friends and a girl showed up all by herself in shorts and a bikini top and started fishing. I went over and started throwing a topwater lure nearby. Struck up a conversation and we really hit it off. I jokingly told my friends she was the only thing I caught on my topwater lures all weekend. My best fishing buddy who was with me likes to give people nicknames, so she got stuck with the nickname "Topwater" after that, We saw each other for a short time after that, but then she had to move 3 hours away, so things kind of fizzled out then. But we had a good time while it lasted. Gotta love fishing
  9. I say all in good fun. But you're lucky he didn't have a chance to set the hook on you!
  10. I was thinking maybe the Abu Garcia Vengeance. But I wanted to know what other rods in this price range you guys think might be a good choice. Thanks
  11. What kind of setup and line was your buddy using? Could it be that he was retrieving the lures at a different rate? Were you both fishing the exact same spots, or different sections of the shore?
  12. Keep an eye on the flea market section here on BR. I've gotten some pretty sweet deals there in the last 6 months or so.
  13. She's a beaut
  14. I got a bps gift card from my mom, and a Berkley digital fish scale from my brother.
  15. I have one spot at the lake I usually fish that I always target. It has produced a lot of fish of varying sizes.
  16. I believe the camo is the same as the silver one. And it's a pretty nice reel. I don't know anything about the rod that the combo includes though.
  17. Merry Christmas Bill! Enjoy the new stuff when spring gets here. I can't wait either.
  18. HEY, check out the flea market now!
  19. If you're talking about 2 or 3 months back, I got that Patriarch, (sorry) and I love it. I don't have any experience with the shimano spinning reels besides the bps display. But if you have $150 to spend, I highly recommend saving a little more and getting a brand new Patriarch.
  20. I'm probably an odd ball for doing this. But I cast with my right, quickly switch hands and then retrieve also with my right, whether it's spinning gear or casting.
