  1. i guess if having a good hobby, being out in nature, having a place for your family to hang out is a bad investment, then so be it. I'll take that any day of the week. Just stay within your means and don't get crazy and finance it for 12 years like the advertisements are showing when you see the low monthly payment.
  2. i just noticed a few of the rivets i have used on my flush mounts in my ATAK have popped out so this is a timely post....order being put in today
  3. good job...i rarely if ever wacky rig but i think this year i am gonna give it a whirl just for something different.
  4. I was hoping for another boy but as long as the baby is healthy then I am happy. And so far so good on that front.
  5. well that sucks...it says it is the link so that anyone can see the video but i guess they are wrong....
  6. Thanks...i just updated the link so maybe that will work now....
  7. ...what the gender of our baby due July 11th is going to be. So without much further adieu.....here ya go. I guess these gender reveal parties are the new thing to do. I was the only one to know prior to the party because I did not want to find out at the same time as everyone else so I was given the job of box filler https://www.facebook.com/jason.roberts.773/videos/10205303743968319/?l=8304864795091694473
  8. I think it is now been established that @bigbill is the king of the internet due to his incredible skills in trolling.....well played my man, well played
  9. I have three rage rods the i picked up maybe 3 years ago or so when they had a buy 2 get one free deal going. I have zero complaints....i kind of wish i "needed" another because i would without a doubt get a few. I am tempted to get a 6'10" MXF casting rod to throw weightless plastics to see how it compares to using a spinning rod for this purpose.....
  10. Semantics....but bottom line is closed cell foam can deteriorate and or get worn to the point that it takes on water and all "closed" cell foam can take on water in a certain situations. To be called closed cell foam it has to meet a certain level of water absorption and that level is not zero but it is considerably less than open cell foam.
  11. i have used or currently use rods from 6'6" up to 9' fly rods with no issues
  12. closed cell foam can absolutely take on water over time just not as easily or as quickly as open cell foam.
  13. I am a kayak guy after fishing for a long time out of canoes and i would never go back to a canoe. A lot of the misconceptions about kayaks are posted a few posts up with regards to motorizing, stability and ability to stand are from old kayaks, not the current models. I can easily stand walk and walk around on my kayak and my seat, when in the high position, is about the same off the water as my canoe used to be and i have the ability to go down closer to the water if i want to avoid some wind. I'll also take a kayak in windy conditions any day of the week over a canoe. As far as adding thrust, i don't think you can add 3 deep cycle batteries to a kayak but why would you want to? I mean sure if you need that type of battery life than more power to you, i just hope nothing ever goes wrong and you have to paddle back to a launch. And then of course there is the safety aspect...a sit on top kayak is self draining which may not come into play but when it does, you'll be happy it did. It also allows you branch out and fish different types of waters that may not be as conducive to a canoe like rivers or saltwater. bottom line though is different strokes for different folks and for me, the ease of use and flexibility of a kayak is what makes me use one instead of a canoe.
  14. I am a Rapala fan and did really well this season with the shadow rap and still do well with the scatter rap in certain situations. I am looking forward to seeing what they come out with.
  15. What do you mean you have basic casting down? Are you talking about lawn casting or actual on the water as they are somewhat different. I'll also echo to go out with a good teacher and not just someone who says they are good. When i used to guide i would have guys come to me and say they were proficient casters and their technique was all off and since they learned incorrectly, it made it more difficult for them to get back to a proficient stroke. Take time with your casting and start short. I used to tell people to get a hula hoop and practice casting to that at about 20 feet away. Once you can nail that with both roll casts and conventional overhead, use something smaller but at the same distance. Then go smaller than that to like a 5 gallon bucket lid. Once you get that down, move it out about 10' further and repeat the process. I rarely cast longer than 40-50' so accuracy and a soft landing combine with nice tight loops is more important than distance. if you find your self having difficulty casting weighted flies practice those too, you can cut off the hook if you want. Casting weighted flies is an entirely different ballgame All that being said, fishing for sunnies is a blast and you can have a ton of fun and don't be surprised to catch a few bass in the process. Last year on of the largest largemouth i caught on the fly rod was when i was going out for sunnies with my 3 wt
  16. Wow....great looking fish!! As far as handling the fish goes, I have heard that larger fish, like the one you caught, should always be supported by the body and the mouth but who knows. I would have been excited too!! Good job
  17. If she had a fence and it went out int the water and you tied off to it then you were totally in the wrong. Would you just tie up to someones dock even though you aren't "hurting" it? And as far as the authority issues go, you had that long before she came to you because i know if i was told to unite from someone's fence at the age of 17 i most likely would have and found somewhere else to fish or just fished without having to tie off.
  18. i get that people ask for a and specific advice but how much of that advice is different than on a large body of water, it really isn't......that is my point.
  19. This is brought up all the time and is always shot down. Fishing in a pond really is no different than a larger lake, just on a smaller scale. Bank fishing has other challenges as well but again, the techniques are the same, just where you are fishing from is different. I made the switch from bank/wade fishing to kayak fishing and i isn't all of the sudden have some new techniques i couldn't do before, just some were more effective being off the bank.
  20. I think the sales are designed to get the more newbie fisherman in the store. They see it as an opportunity to upgrade gear or get started and for that purpose, you can get some decent stuff. I am pretty specific in what i like to use and i do usually pick up terminal tackle during the sale but that's about it. I do know one year i picked up about 3-4 rods that with the rod trade in and i think mail in rebates were really good deals, same deal with reels one year too. Now, i am pretty set so the "need" for new stuff just isn't there for me. I'd rather go fishing than walk around a store..
  21. Rumor mill has it that a 12' ATAK is in the works too....if it has the same cockpit size i just might sell my 14' version and get a 12'....better for rivers Or i might just get another one lol
  22. I just go fishing lol now i do have to change species most of the time but i do fish all year round pretty much.
  23. lightening and hard water are pretty much it for me. I may not take my kayak out but no matter what the weather, i can hit up some spring creeks for trout.
  24. The Ark held up ok from what i have read....not sure if they still use gopher wood though
  25. of course it does...he said wood qualifies as crap.
